Yeppp another 10/10 experience. Cute atmosphere very cultural. We ordered the curry goat and butter chicken. Fresh butter naan bread and we had a choice. Will try the cheese naan next time. Butter chicken was soo creamy and nothing but fresh flavors. The goat was the highlight.

    Happy hour menu

I have been eyeing this spot for a few months, and I finally got to check it out for a happy hour on a Saturday afternoon. Gotta love a spot with weekend happy hours! When my friend and I got there right at the start, it was empty. But that gave me an excuse to really take it all the decor. The bar side and the rest of the dining area are divided by a half wall and beautiful bead curtains that come from the ceiling. The decor otherwise is colorful and eye popping. At the same time, it's not all that bright. Their happy hour includes $8 wine, $10 cocktails and $6-7 appetizers. I got their spicy mango mojito, old fashioned, spicy mustang aloo, and chicken sekuwa. The mojito was as spicy as I had expected, and I was surprised by how little to no ice there was. The aloo was mostly potatoes in a wedge-like shape with some other yummy flavors going on in a bowl, and the chicken was tasty. My friend's wings were good too. I would come back based on this experience, and I'd be excited to try some entrees. Vibe there is really nice.

When visiting D.C. for business, I felt the urge to indulge in some Indian food. Super happy with Nanglo and the options to share with others at the table. The presentation and the quality of the food was superb. The atmosphere was relaxing and beautiful. The drinks were also beautiful and delicious. The service was quick and comforting and attended to our every needs. Highly recommend.

With the goal of supporting newest local businesses along H Street NE, a friend and I did a lunch crawl on a Thursday afternoon. Out of the four spots we visited, Nanglo was one of our favorites. Here's why. 1) Food: The menu focuses on Nepali and Indian food with many options. To feed two of us, we ordered the Nanglo Set for Two for $48, which was a great price for the amount of food you get. (It can feed three people.) It comes out on a platter is the best representation of food from Nepal according to our server. It's chicken heavy with chicken wings, chicken on the bone, biryani with chicken, etc. However, there are a few other dishes like potatoes with an incredible sauce and more. Everything had incredible spice and flavor and was well prepared. 2) Space: It's large with many tables, booths, and a bar. 3) Drinks: The Nanglo Set for Two comes with two mango lassis that were delicious! I'd go back just for that! Overall, we LOVED Nanglo!

    Cauliflower Bezule

Highly recommend. Cauliflower Bezule was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend that. I initially ordered a Goat sekuwa, but I found the meat to be tough so they swapped a Chicken Sekuwa and it was very tender and well seasoned. Great service. I will 100% be back to this place. It tastes a little different from normal Indian places, perhaps Nepali influence. I find the food here to be wonderful, and the interior decoration is beautiful !! Will be back.

Everytime I visit Nanglo, I tell myself there's no way my dining experience can possibly get better. Guess what...... everytime it absolutely does ! The servers are super friendly, the manager is very welcoming, the bartender is creative and attentive. The food is immaculate, cooked to tenderly perfection, with bold flavors, served with generous portions at a great price point. Combined, this makes the perfect ambiance for a deep dive into the diversity of Nepalese.

I have been eyeing this spot since it changed ownership and finally visited after my friend suggested we have dinner there on a Saturday evening. I do not think I've ever had Nepalese cuisine, so I was very excited to try something new. I arrived and was stunned to see the new look inside the decoration is outstanding the hand painting on the walls, the crystal lined curtain next to the booths the traditional napkins and serving dishes everything is absolutely stunning and thoughtfully curated for your dining experience. The staff was very friendly and did an amazing job with making suggestions and telling us which dishes were Nepalese. We decided to some sampling. We went with the goat sekuwa, palak chat, chicken thali, buff momo with chili and garlic naan. My favorite of all were the buff momo with chili and the veggies that came with the thali dish. Everything else was lacking in flavor and the goat was overcooked- it was hard to cut. I think the restaurant is beautiful and a great location and wonderful service I would try it again I would just like more flavor/spice.

    Goat Curry

Nanglo opened this weekend on H St., providing the neighborhood with a solid Nepalese-Indian restaurant. I just ordered the goat curry, mango virgin mojito and the gulab jamun with ice cream. The goat curry was solid, but I'll note that it has a lot of bones; the meat though is quite tender. The mango virgin mojito was sweet and tangy and a good mocktail option. I enjoyed my dessert and additionally appreciated the great service.

Non-Non -Veg Nanglo Set for Two

Amazing food! We got one of the thali shared plates and it was far more food than two of us could eat (which felt like an amazing deal based on price). Everything was so tasty, fantastic service, and all around a wonderful experience. Recommend!

    Menu

An exceptional dining experience from start to finish. The food was outstanding--we began with the Paneer Shashlik, which was perfectly grilled, well seasoned, and full of flavor. For the main course, we ordered the Nanglo Special Thakali Thali (non-veg), an impressive variety of dishes featuring tender tandoori chicken, flavorful chicken biryani, chicken momo, veg chilly momo, veg chow mein, tandoori wings, spicy Mustang aloo, and a refreshing mango lassi. We also enjoyed the bread basket. Portions were generous, and every dish was consistently delicious. The service was warm, attentive, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend Nanglo!!!

Food was incredible. We had spicy cauliflower and momos, both Nepali cuisine. Thali was savory and delicious with perfect lamb. People working in the restaurant were super friendly. The Indian dishes were excellent but the Nepalese dishes were unique and amazing.

The place was busy on a Fri night, so highly recommend making reservations. Order included Bison Momo ($16), Blue Cheese Reshmi Kebab ($14), Spicy Nawabi Duck Kebab ($16) which indeed had a subtle enjoyable spice kick to it! Meen Pollichathu ($28) came with a very delicious Khichdi, and the Wild Mushroom Biryani ($24) continues to be a top dish at this place. Gulab Jamun ($10) was a very comforting dessert and a perfect way to end the night! Service was excellent, and food arrived within 15-mins of placing the order. Noise levels on the average end, including a rather loud table next to us where the dude was definitely buzzed. Will continue to be one of our favorite places whenever we are in DC!

Living across town, we don't come to H Street very often, so I finallyyyyy made it back after 4 years! Upon walking in, the staff were so nice and they also made sure our water cups were never empty! We ordered all the same favorites from my first time dining at Daru! This time, the food was still really good but not as flavorful as I remembered. If I were coming back, I would still order the lamb chops (so tender; cooked to perfection), the bison momos, the pesto paneer, scallops, and the garlic naan to soak up all the sauces. I would pass on the daal burrata and the potatoes though.

We made a lunch reservation on OpenTable and made our way to the highly anticipated Chai Pani. Once we were seated, the waitress greeted us and asked if we had dined at Chai Pani before. Since it was our first time, she gave us an overview and explained that the dishes are great for sharing. They also had some specials - the magic masala tomato chaat and grilled swordfish were being featured. We started with the kale pakora chaat ($15) and SPDP ($13). We loved the kale pakora chaat! My standard for a kale chaat is Rasika's signature palak chaat. Chai Pani's kale chaat holds their own. This chaat is more frittery than loose kale pieces, which made it easier to serve and share with the group. The flavor and texture were on point. The addition of the grapes and melon seeds gave the dish more sweetness, freshness, and great presentation. I would definitely order this again. The SPDP (puffed puris) were yogurt-laden, which made them less appealing. When they were brought to the table, the waiter instructed us that they are meant to be eaten in one bite. I appreciate the instruction, but the puris are a little big (it would be easier to eat in two bites). I didn't really taste the other ingredients other than the puri shell overloaded with yogurt. For the entrees, we ordered the butter chicken ($22) and lamb kala masala ($34). Both came with a small bowl of jeera rice. The lamb shank was excellent! I've had the lamb shank at the Michelin-rated Rania, and Chai Pani's lamb shank is better! The meat was tender and moist. It fell off the bone - always a sign of great cooking. The butter chicken was solid but was not a standout dish. This curry definitely had some heat to it, but the portion felt small for the price. It had a smoky flavor to it and used white breast meat, so it was on the dry side. We also got a side of naan which was pretty standard but great for sopping up the curry. Service was kind and bubbly. It started out strong, but it waned as the meal went on. We were checked on when the starters came out, but not necessarily checked on when the mains came out. She was knowledgeable of the menu and did check if we wanted to order any more drinks. The table was set with a water carafe, so we were able to take care of our own water cup refills. Bottom line - I would come back here again. I think the chaats and street food dishes are where Chai Pani really shines, and the lively, upbeat ambiance adds to the enjoyment. Chai Pani is a lovely addition to the Union Market neighborhood - definitely check it out!

Jab's version ($10) is the best dupe I've ever had! I ordered it as a carryout item, and I was wary that it wouldn't hold up to the transport and would be soggy. Jab packaged it thoughtfully - all of the sauces were served on the side - and the flash-fried spinach stayed perfectly crispy and wasn't greasy at all! Serving the sauces on the side is actually even better because then I was able to customize the sauce levels and flavors. I would definitely come back and order this again. I also ordered the Chicken Makhani ($20) because I'm basic like that. It comes with rice. You can customize the spice levels, and yes, I ordered mild (...I SAID I was basic). The butter chicken was good but doesn't crack the list of my favorites. The chicken was a little dry and they use a grilled/barbecued chicken which gave it a smoky flavor. The mild was quite mild, I actually think I could handle a slightly spicier level here. I'm happy I tried this place - will come back to try more.

I tried the Marigold Daisy, Rangeela-Rita, and Tapori cocktails (all $12 on happy hour). They were all very good and had interesting flavors. My favorite was the Daisy due to its combination of smoky mezcal and herbal flavors; then the Tapori. To eat, the Cheese Kulcha ($5), Seekh Kebab ($10), and Podi Masala Dosa ($15). Again, all very good with great flavors. The kulcha reminded me of buttered popcorn at the movies, in a good way. The kebab was a chicken kebab and reminded me of chicken sausage. The bartender suggested eating it like a hotdog, which worked well. The Dosa was good, a little hard to eat, and I'm not sure why it was so much more expensive than the other dishes. I'd rather have the Kulcha + Kebab again for the same price as the Dosa. The only downside was it took forever to get food. We even saw the people next to us order a dosa after us and get it before us. They have a 20% auto-grat. Two decades later, it remains an absolute powerhouse and a masterclass in culinary consistency. The Accolades Rasika's trophy case is legendary. Chef Vikram Sunderam secured a prestigious James Beard Award for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic, and the restaurant has consistently retained a top-tier spot on The Washington Post's 100 Very Best Restaurants list. It's the kind of place that effortlessly balances critical acclaim with a fiercely loyal local following, famously serving as a birthday hotspot for President Obama and a staple for D.C.'s culinary elite. The Menu While the iconic Palak Chaat gets plenty of well-deserved press, the true depth of the kitchen shines brightest in their classic entrees and customizable heat profiles. The Lamb Shank: A definitive triumph of slow-cooked execution. The meat is spectacularly tender, effortlessly falling away from the bone at the mere suggestion of a fork. Infused with a rich, aromatic blend of saffron and roasted coconut, the sauce achieves a profound depth of flavor that is both deeply comforting and complex. Saag Paneer (Malai Palak): Rasika's take on this classic elevates standard creamed spinach to an art form. The spinach retains a vibrant, fresh green character, expertly laced with garlic, onions, and green chilies. The paneer cubes are beautifully delicate, acting as the perfect velvety vehicle for the impeccably spiced greens. The House-Made Hot Sauce: For those who appreciate true heat, Rasika offers an exceptional house-made hot sauce that is cooked to order. Rather than just dumping standard chili oil on top, the kitchen freshly fires up this blend to your exact specifications, seamlessly integrating a fiery punch into your dishes without sacrificing an ounce of the underlying flavor profile. The Verdict Rasika isn't just a great Indian restaurant; it is one of the finest dining institutions in Washington, D.C. Whether you are a regular or a first-timer, the flawless execution of the lamb shank, the sophisticated balance of the saag paneer, and the tailored precision of their custom-cooked hot sauce make every meal feel like an event.
