Blink and you'll miss it. Buried in the corner of the strip mall off of 50th and 40th ave. But you would be missing out on some of the best Indian food I've ever eaten. And I've been around Mill-hood's fine South Asian restaurants. Here are the highlights for me. Cheese Naan. Yes you read that right. I've never seen it anywhere else. It was stupendous. Lamb khima. Loved it. Minced lamb with some veg and spices. Although I will probably go back to my usual lamb dish lamb Rogan josh. Fish pakora. Light and fried perfectly. Probably the best dish I had, with the mint sauce adding the right flavours to perfect the dish for me. Ate butter chicken, saffron rice, regular naan, royal chicken (like a tastier butter chicken), and a couple other usuals. All excellent. My lame family forced us to order everything mild so I didn't get to see how the dishes would normally come. But I can bet they would have been even better. Give this place a try. read more

I came to Rasoi for lunch a while back. In terms of food, their dishes were spicier than other places. The portions felt smaller than other places but they were also less expensive. The goat curry was what stood out the most. I'd give them 7/10 read more

This was my first experience here and it was ok. I ordered two veg samosas, one beef, mutton curry meal combo with rice, dal makhani with naan meal combo, raita, and fish pakoras. The veg samosas seemed like they needed more time for the filling to muster and cook and soak up the flavour of the spices and the potatoes were still not quite cooked. The mutton curry was very little meat at all and all bones and the curry was more like a paste than a gravy. The naan was good. The rice was well cooked and seasoned. The raita is advertised as "whipped cooling yogurt" and it was thin and runny and not very good to be honest. The dal makhani was alright but nothing special- lacked seasoning. The fish pakoras were their saving grace. I'd never had them before and they were tasty little morsels of fresh fish nicely battered and served with a nice and fresh tasting green sauce. Also, when I went in to pick up my order the lady wasn't wearing a mask until I came in- she put it on as I was approaching the counter. I almost turned around right there. read more

Yum! Huge menu. Lots of vegetarian options which I appreciate. I prefer to take out so not sure what the dine-in experience is like. I do know they offer a rally affordable buffet on the weekends and it seems popular. I would recommend making this your Indian food go to and explore the menu. The food is cooked, seasoned and spiced expertly. So flavorful! Staff are a little different. They just seem not totally interested in providing friendly service or engaging with the customer. It's not going to keep me from frequenting this restaurant but may be the reason I'm not interested in dining in. This is something that Rasoi could improve on. read more

Restaurant's service is not the same as what it used to be under previous management (plus evident by majority of reviews which are older than few months). Came in today for lunch and were surprised that they don't have a buffet even though it is advertised on their plasma tv and signs (Mon - Sat Buffet $13.95). We started off with Diet Coke which tasted so flat that we requested it to be replaced with Regular Coke. They don't serve coffee which is strange especially for a restaurant. Food - 4 out of 5. Chicken Biryani (w/dahi) - 3 of 5 (seems like tandoori chicken from appetizer was added to the rice) Saag Chicken - 3 out of 5 stars Butter Chicken - 4 out of 5 stars (best) Chicken Tikka Masala - 4 out of 5 stars Naan - 4 out of 5 stars (had to ordered naan n rice separate) Ambience - 4 out of 5 as the previous management did a good job and they have kept it the same. Service - 2 out of 5. Add some personality, excitement and smile in the service. Buffet - 0 out of 5 as they didn't offer buffet today even though they advertise. Overall - 3 out of 5. Recommend trying other better options in the city as this restaurant under new management is not the same Rasoi on 50th St we all were used to. We ordered take away so I can only speak to the food and... it was excellent! We ordered chicken karahi, chili chicken and naan. The prices are reasonable (around $14 for a meat dish) and two orders of naan meant four large pieces. My only gripe. We phoned in our order, they said it would 20 minutes. When we went to pick up, we waited another 20 minutes at the restaurant. Hmmmm.... Not the end of the world but could have been a problem if we were in a hurry. read more

This place is a hidden gem here in Edmonton! Wow, the thing is you leave here without feeling bloated like you would at other places. Having spoken to the owner a couple years back he had told me that they try to make the food in more of a home style - less butter and less oil, but with the same seasonings and spice blends to give you the same flavor. And they do just that. As an Indian guy, I have eaten at multiple Indian places around the city and around Canada and the US. This place definitely definitely ranks in try upper echelon of them all. The butter chicken is creamy, flavourful, and full of large chunks of delicious chicken. The chicken was marinated and prepared for this dish, you can taste it. They also have more unique dishes like they have their own style of chili chicken which I haven't had at other places and their fish pakora are to die for. Unreal. We went here the first time because we had a coupon but we go back at least once every few months just because we love it and it is definitely not close to where we live. The outside of this restaurant is an eyesore. It is in a little strip mall with a gas station closeby but as soon as you walk inside you forget about the outside. The inside is very nicely decorated and feels like a more casual fine dining for dinner. Everything we have ordered there has been good, and if you want spicy, you will certainly get it here if you ask for it. The medium makes my nose run. For a South Side Edmonton treat, bring you and yours to Rasoi on 50th for a really decadent meal. Imagine an experience where the staff are happy to have you, the atmosphere is elegant and the food is delightful. From my perspective over the past decade, I have yet to encounter a meal that has left me unhappy. This counts for both dine-in and takeout meals. We are usually a large table of 5 or more, we get seated quickly and drink orders are taken within minutes. Shortly after looking over the menus we are giving our dinner order. Water is replenished frequently and often and food is served hot and made spicy (by our request). We are always very full and very satisfied when we go. The kids usually enjoy a mango lassi (smoothie made with mango nectar and yoghurt) and we plunge in to several of their excellent vegetarian dishes. Kids love the mushroom makhani which is in a creamy tomato spicy sauce a bit similar to a butter chicken sauce. I really like the Kofta dish, the eggplant and the chick peas (chana masala). Their palak paneer (spinach and home made soft cheese in a buttery sauce) is smooth and mellow. Order a cucumber raita (yoghurt and shredded cucumbers with some herbs) to pour over the spicy dishes, it takes the edge off the spices, cools the palate and refreshes the senses before you take another bite. I promise you will not be disappointed here. Ask about what you are unfamiliar with, ask for recommendations and then eat up! Also, for fun, here are a few reasons some cultures eat with their hands: -You'll never burn your mouth with hot food if you can't pick it up -You can only hold what you can fit in your mouth -North Indians particularly believe in being connected to your food with all senses, including touch, for a mindful experience, a whole-body sensory experience of almost religious meaning -In some parts of the world your plate is going to be a flat bread or a washed banana leaf. A fork or knife would destroy your plate! Although there are many more reasons, this practice goes back thousands of years. You'd often share from a common pot, engaging in a community activity. It's social, intimate and you waste nothing because you see and touch every morsel of food. It's eco-friendly, banana leaves are renewable and biodegradable, you get to connect with your food, and there are less dishes to clean or carry with you. Rasoi is one of our go-to restaurants; I love Indian food and Rasoi does not disappoint. I put them miles ahead of your more generic New Asian Village-type Indian fare. I was pleasantly surprised by their fish pakoras; the fish pretty much melted in your mouth and the batter was light. A lot of the time I find fish pakoras get overwhelmed by the batter such that you can't taste the fish, but not these ones. We end up with butter chicken pretty much every time we come here. It's delicious, although the chicken-to-sauce ratio could be a little better (I wish the dish had more meat). I love paneer dishes, so we've tried a couple different ones on their menu. The palak paneer and matar paneer are both delicious. The saag chicken is a nice dish, as is their curry (we had beef). Honestly, I don't think there's a dish on their menu that we've been disatisfied with. Prices are pretty reasonable; we normally order quite a bit of food (more than one dinner) and bring lunch home for the next day. The meal normally comes in around $60 or so. read more

I've been eating here regularly for tenish years and I've never once had a bad experience, even as they've changed ownership a couple of times. Service and food had always been good. I've never had the buffet, and I've personally only ever ordered vegetarian dishes. But there's a good variety of those, as there typically are at most Indian restaurants. My mother has always enjoyed this place, so much that she now refuses to dine in any other Indian restaurants because she finds anything else disappointing, she does eat non-veg dishes and is always delighted with them. I do eat at many different Indian restaurants, often. This is one of two that I'll be giving a 5 star review to (the other is not yet on Yelp). There are many dishes that I truly enjoy here, but my absolute favourite, can turn any frown up side down, comfort food is the Malai Kofta Rangeen. I like it on saffron rice. And I like it more than nearly any food ever anywhere. This kofta is cheese based, served in a nice creamy rich sauce, 'Rangeen' because it has cherries in it. Sometimes we pop in to pick up a 'bread basket' order to have with our own home-made curries, 'cause we don't have a tandoor at home. This is a variety of naans. Whole wheat, garlic, potato stuffed, etc. A really fun assortment. read more

I ordered sholay and pathura for 6 people . When I called I asked for 6 people. They were like don't worry it'll be good for 6 people. I forgot to ask the price. But I figured it would be around how much all other East Indian places are.. if anything it would be plus minus $5. Nope. It was $60. If you go to another place it costs approx 30-40 for the same thing we ordered. I will never order from this place again. Prices are highly jacked up. The Tandoori fish is incredible (My fave) The standard butter chicken always gets ordered when I go too. Ambiance is good, drinks are good. I dont have one slightly negative thing to say! I work near here so I come for the lunch buffet regularly. They have a nice selection with all the ussual Indian fare and a few items that rotate. For butter chicken fans I have had better elsewhere. The sauce seems too thin and watery... it is still worth taking a couple of bites but there are many other Good things. They always have a fish pakora I like a lot. A friend just bought a house in the neighbourhood, and after a day of moving, we went looking for local restaurants, and happened upon this gem. A small unassuming storefront leads into a nicely appointed dining room, with a spacious, very private patio at the rear. We opted for the patio, as it was lovely evening. We ordered drinks from a friendly young fellow who was very nice, but who's language skills were somewhat limited. There was some confusion, but we worked through it with a smile. No buffet Sunday, so we ordered off the menu, choosing the Butter Chicken, and Aloo Gobi Adraki, along with Saffron Rice and a double order of Tandoori Roti. Food service was not the quickest, even though we were one of only 3 tables in the restaurant, but it was a beautiful night, the music was good, and the drinks cold. When it came, the food was well worth the wait. The Butter Chicken was among the best I have ever had, and everything was excellent. Perfectly seasoned, fresh and delicious. It was a nice relaxing meal, with just the right amount of attention from the staff to be sure we were well looked after. Dinner for 2 with drinks and a healthy tip came to around $50.00. An excellent value for the quality. Return visit? Most definitely. read more

My boyfriend and I were on a hunt for some good papri chaat, so we decided to give Rasoi a try. Sadly, the papri chaat did not live up to our expectations. The papri itself was good, but the dish had way too much yogurt and tamarind chutney for it to be enjoyable. It was overly sweet and tangy, and we couldn't even finish it. Fortunately, we really enjoyed the butter chicken and cheese naan, and it is reason I bumped up my rating to 4 stars (I wish I could give it a 3.5). I'd say the naan is probably the best in town, and the butter chicken was extremely tender. The service was cold and distant, but all in all, I had a pretty decent experience at Rasoi. There are usually good Groupons for this restaurant if you're curious to try it but don't want to pay full price. The food here is great you always leave feeling full and it's a smaller more intimate restaurant so a good place to have a nice conversation with someone while enjoying some great Indian food. Let me start of by saying that they are one of the better Indian cuisines in town. That said they are also one of the slowest services. I went there for lunch a few weeks ago with my parents.
