We stay up here at the same time every year for the last three years. And love it every time!! Location - right next door to St Bernard's, so you can always get a decent steak, and some plonk from bottle shop, and get to cuddle a gorgeous St. Bernard!! What more can you ask for! Try and get a room on the second floor to really enjoy the view. There's nothing like waking up and looking out to the dewy beauty of mount tamborine, makes that deadly drive totally worth it Oh and did I mention HEATED BLANKETS!! The couple who run it are lovely, approachable and friendly, and will go the extra mile to make your stay comfortable, There's a pool, but man. It's so cold up there that the only people who swim are drunks bomb diving at 3am on a dare :)

Perfect in every way staff so helpful and friendly the club lounge and meals amazing. If you are looking for some modern flashy party town hotel this isn't the one to stay in but if you enjoy nature and the best a natural environment can offer to rejuvenate mind body and soul in true five stars this is a must. In all honestly I'm more than happy with my 5 star review cause there is nothing to fault with this place... I'm thinking that the previous reviewers might be used to the 4 star luxury pub hotels back home in their respected citys lol!! If anyone can find a fault with this 2 star hotel with a single room bed for 1 person with shared bathroom for $27 a night - to a double 2 person room with private bathroom and shower and balcony for $88 a night, pleasd do so. But keep in mind that this is a small town between Grafton & Ballina and that your staying at Pub Hotel not just a hotel :)!! The Bistro had delicous food here aswell, had the fishermans basket myself and was pleased with the outdoor seating area where you could sit down and chill out with a cold beer with the locals :), and everyone says Hello or how are you over here.. a bit like Europe.. am just suprised cause you don't get that from many Sydney siders lol.. All in all I loved my stayed here at Hotel Illawong and on my next visit I won't be staying anywhere else but here :)! !

I count Katandra as one of my spiritual homes these days. It's an amazing getaway location for a…read morebig group of people who don't feel like a beach break. Situated close to Lamington National Park, accessed via Beaudesert, Katandra is stuck in the middle of nowhere - or, to be more accurate, stuck in the middle of a beautiful green countryside, surrounded by mountains (and, if you go in Spring, flowering Jacaranda trees). The House is fully equipped with everything you need - a kitchen full of cooking and eating tools, clean linen on beds, three showers and toilets (two of each of these are outside the building so winter runs will be a bit nippy), and a library in the den with books, records and videos. All you need to take with you are your clothes, personal items, and enough food and drink to not need to make any trips back into town... because the nearest corner store is a good 45-minute drive away. Mobile reception doesn't exist on any network out this far, so make sure you let any important people know you'll be out of contact apart from the landline phone. There's a fireplace in the den and an outside bonfire spot. My two stays so far at Katandra have been over the new year and in November, and yet we used both fires to keep warm - the lovely mountain air is cool enough all year round. Just down the hill is a little wooden shack and a lovely creek, as well as an old bathtub with a little fire pit under it. If you want to go to the effort of filling the bath and heating the water, the resulting bath time is a little like something out of a dream (just don't forget to put stones in the bottom of the tub to sit on, because it gets a bit hot!). A little further down from the creek is a beautiful olive grove. It took four years in between holidays at Katandra for my friends and I to return, and we were worried that as time passed, we'd overhyped it in our minds... but returning was just as wonderful as we'd expected, if not a bit more. If you're looking for an awesome break from life for you and your friends, I can't recommend Katandra more highly.

Beautiful plaster mouldings and just an orgasmic sense of majestic dimensions. The building is a triumph of passive temperature control because of it's very mass... I have often stayed in the GENEROUS upstairs rooms, a real delight at rock-bottom prices. No air-conditioning; but it's just not needed! Great views from the balcony onto the quiet main street at night.

Our 2 bedroom space was so clean and spacious, with a full sized kitchen. We even got to meet multiple cows the next day. :) Recommend!
