Just don't expect much in the way of snacks or souvenirs -- the offerings are pretty minimal. And fair warning: those fortune machines might take your coin and your curiosity but won't actually spit out a fortune (mine's still pending). It has a big parking lot and a lot of shade, which we discovered in the morning. Bathrooms were small but did keep you warm in the meantime. Sadly water was already frozen over which made washing your hands impossible. By morning, somewhat of the sidewalk was shoveled and the parking lot in certain areas were scrapped. Since, when it snows watch out for this area, it will get slippery. Walking or driving- just take it nice and slow of course.

Anyway, the staff is very friendly and one guy in particular by the name of Ron who helped me out tremendously. He had a wealth of knowledge regarding pretty much everything in the store, especially fireworks. You know, it seems like customer service these days is almost nonexistent, but this place proved me wrong again. From the outside, it looked like an oasis--bright lights, clean pumps, and a big red heart that whispered, "Come in, traveler... we have clean bathrooms." Inside was a beautiful chaos: truckers comparing boots, kids losing their minds over slushies the size of small buckets, and a guy at the counter trying to buy a single banana and a windshield wiper. I headed for the restroom, and let me tell you, it was clean enough that I almost considered living there. Almost. The snack aisle was a spiritual experience--wall-to-wall trail mix, Hot Cheetos, and mystery meat sticks. I grabbed a soda, a slice of gas station pizza and got back on the road feeling satisfied. Love's isn't just a gas station. It's a strange, wonderful rest stop between "Where are we?" and "Are we there yet?" And in New Mexico, that's pretty much magic.
