The Inn offers all the amenities of a rental home (fully stocked kitchen with two fridges and two dishwashers, dishes, etc), large dining room table, plenty of seating and a couple of quiet rooms to relax. The bedrooms were large, there were at least 9 of them and each had their own full bath. Comfortable temperatures from their HVAC throughout the entire house. Overall, the Inn was a comfortable way to relax after a day of fishing. There was also a grill outside and a fire pit. The location is just about 10 mins from downtown Covington, not far from other fishing areas, like Lake Moomaw and the dam there. There's plenty of parking and they have an amazing restaurant onsite, a quick walk from the Inn that's highly recommended! I look forward to returning!!

When we got there, the place was pretty empty as a storm had run some golfers away from the pub. We had a chips and salsa appetizer and we both had the gouda burger with bacon jam. To our delight, the food was excellent. We talked some with managers and they have added many things to the menu. I am honestly looking forward to going back and trying something different next time. The beer selection is not much craft beer, but has some good staples- shock top, vienna lager, etc. There is plenty of parking and indoor and outdoor seating. There is a fire pit outside along with horseshoes and corn hole boards. They have tried to make it very family friendly We will definitely be going back!!

While researching the two golf courses at The Homestead Resort- The Old Course (1892) and The…read moreCascades (1924) - I learned the Old Course has the nation's oldest first tee in continuous use. It was a little geek-out golf moment to think we would be teeing off at this historically important hole. We had the opportunity to play 18 holes on the championship Old Course at The Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia. The golf staff was super friendly and gave us some pointers before sending us off on the high-tech golf cart with GPS and an interactive map of the course. The weather was perfect, although a little gnatty, for our 9 a.m. tee time. The surrounding Allegheny Mountains hug the 6,099 yard course that snakes back and forth through the hills. The 18 holes consist of six par 3s, six par 4s and six par 5. They are not very long holes (relative to other, newer courses we have played) but the geography forces golfers to shoot uphill, downhill, or around sloping hillsides. Mature wooded grounds and beautifully manicured fairways led to challenging greens. We reveled for a moment at the Old Hole #1, knowing how many famous folk, from presidents to great golfers, teed up here. I must not have channelled my inner Sam Snead enough (this was his home course), because I whiffed my first ball into the woods. Oh well, there's no crying in golf. Throughout the round, we were able to play slowly enough to enjoy the beautiful scenery and random wildlife that made an appearance- and to focus on our game. Overall, it was a fun course to play and I appreciated the relatively shorter length of the holes. FACTOID: Sam Snead taught himself to play golf during the Great Depression with golf clubs carved from tree limbs. He caddied at the Old Course from the age of seven 7 and turned pro at 22. We did not get to play The Cascades, but we did stop in to look at the course, which was designed by William Flynn in 1924. It is considered one of the finest mountain courses in the country and ranked among "America's 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses" by Golf Digest. The magnificent topography against the the backdrop of Allegheny Mountains allowed Flynn to design the course masterfully using the natural terrain, The Cascades is regarded as one of Flynn's greatest works. The Omni Homestead Resort is a great place of pilgrimage for any history buff, architecture lover, or golfer. We look forward to another visit to play the Cascades and check out the extensive restoration projects to the main building and other parts of the property, including the mineral water-fed Jefferson Pool.

They were gems and showed us where, why and how of the course. Great company for sure. Now I like to think I am a good golfer (hit long off the tee and fairly accurate with a good short game) 11 handicap...Thus course had some major league elevation...Not a poppy Ridge out in Livermore, CA but there were hills. My drives were freaking huge...Regulation was hit in most cases and I even drove two Par 4s...What killed me were the greens...Not only were the fairways elevated so were the greens!!!! It is narrow so if you are a sprayer like my cousin, you will get frustrated. Alas, lack of familiarity of the course did me in and I shot an 89. Keep in mind the slope is a tough 126...Average is 113 in America. Castlewood Country Club in Pleasanton, CA is 131 and is a very hard course and I shot 2 strokes better there; it was the home course of LPGA Pro and Asst. Captain of the Solheim Cup Champion team of 2024. I shot an 87 at Castlewood which is also a tour length course but here ai shot an 89! It is a tough little course but the company was exceptional. Thank you Garland and Mike! Only hit was that the greens were not Maintained well enough but it is winter. I get to knock West Virginia off my list of Places I have golfed...I would like to come back and play this again for sure.

The Club at Ironwood is a semi-private country club that offers public access for higher green fees…read morethan members pay. The club offers an 18-hole (par 71) layout with five sets of tees (black, blue, white, gold, and silver), a driving range, a putting green, and a clubhouse/19th hole restaurant. Maybe I went in with too high of expectations, but I was a bit disappointed at the course conditions for it being a country club. Tee boxes were overgrown and felt more like teeing up on short rough rather than manicured, short-cut grass. Greens were slow, made worse by the recent aeration that left every putt even more slow and incredibly bumpy. And, at least from the back tees, several holes require you to hit blindly over a hill, so it's difficult to see the hole's route or where your ball ends up. At the end of the day, you're playing golf, which is great, and this is one of the few courses in Staunton, but I wouldn't return to play here again.

A beautiful golf course on the Wintergreen Resort. Some key things to note:…read more - At 3,850 feet, the highest course in the State of Virginia - Access is only available to members, guests and registered resort guests - 50-mile views of the Shenandoah and Rockfish valleys - Surprisingly level mountaintop terrain My ears popped going up and down the mountain to the golf course. A good friend is a member, so that made me a guest. The mountain views are stunning and gorgeous. When it comes to walking, the level mountaintop terrain is true... When golfing, the hell with their level mountaintop. With their beautiful and super fast greens, the ball never stops rolling. A course like this requires precision and skill. Miss a shot or approach from the wrong angle and you can guarantee your next shot very far from the hole and in some cases, off the green. If you suck at golf like I did, you'll need lots of golf balls. Come prepared. Finding golf balls off of the rough are nearly impossible. My only gripe was that the greens were hard so approach shots didn't hold well. If you're a golfer and you're visiting Wintergreen and have the opportunity to play, take it. Bring your camera. You'll find some great views you'll want to snap.

They seem to be fighting another strain of grass creeping into some of the fairways. Greens were pure though. Members don't seem to fill their divots or rake the bunkers which is sad. (One also decided to slam his car door into my car when I was in it. No reaction from him.) Nice grass driving range and putting green. Didn't see a chipping green or bunker area. I will definitely be back but will park away from everyone else. 1 almost drivable par 4. Favor the right side off the tee. 2 beautiful hole with water up the left side. 3 brutal, winding par 5. I'd say driver is not the play off the tee, but your second shot has to be far enough up the second fairway to have a shot at the green. 4 intimidating par 3 over water. 5 cool looking split fairway par 4 that climbs the hill. Green has a big elevation change in the middle. 6 dogleg right par 5. Third shot you'll see the stone wall and creek that guard the green. 7 downhill par 3 with a huge green with a ridge cutting off the right third of it. 8 uphill par 4 with an elevated green that's hard to hold. 9 you really have to thread your drive and favor the right side. 10 beautiful dogleg right with a second shot down the hill. You'll also see all the water that'll come into play later in your round. Just beautiful. 11 uphill par 5. Driver off the tee except for the longest players. 12 fantastic looking hole. Well bunkered downhill par 4 with the second shot over water. 13 tough downhill par 3. Your view of the green may be obstructed which is a different but fun feature. 14 I've never seen this many bunkers on a drivable par 4, but the fairway is very generous left of them. 15 I hope you hit a cut off the tee. Toughest par 4 in my opinion. 16 great par 5 along the water. 17 couldn't even make the bunkers from the tips with a well hit 3 wood. I hit land then it bounced back in the water. Only reason why I don't think playing the tips are for me here. 18 from the back tees, I couldn't see any of the landing area. That is a tough tee shot. The green doesn't get any easier with a big slope in the middle of it.

Sister course to Bel Meadow Golf Club, Tygart Lake is a magnificent 18 hole course that an average…read moregolfer can score very well on. Tygar Lake is a hidden gem in grafton WV. The owner and professional Brad Westfall is very friendly and knows his stuff! He is multiple winner of the West Virginia Open and won many prestigious tournaments outside of home state WV. The entire Westfall family are magnificent. Jody Westfall (Wife of Brad) is an absolute saint. She is very kind and always has a positive and upbeat attitude. They have two daughters named Sidney and Jenna who are absolutely the cutest pair of girls on the planet. I would have loved to seen those two take after their father on golf links. In conclusion, Tygart Lake Golf Course is top 3 of my favorite golf courses to play. I recommend this course to anyone looking to play a round and enjoy the hills of WV.
