Raw Xocolatl had their grand opening this weekend and boy were they busy! RX takes great care in their chocolate craft, providing an impressive variety of chocolates comparable to a chocolate shop I know of back in San Antonio. The shop was incredibly busy and the staff was still in training, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt anyway since they were all so new. The young girl, who despite looking 12, ran the show pretty effectively, showing staff how to use the register, directing them to get which treats and to make what drinks, all while with a smile on her face and remaining in control. The shop sells bags of different kinds of chocolates, ranging from cacao nibs, chocolate covered blueberries, chocolate covered cashews, etc. The pastry box has macarons, pastries dipped or filled with chocolate, powdered sugar cookies, brownies, and the most stunning colorful chocolates. The drink menu is also heavily Aztec inspired, offering a variety of iced and hot beverages. I got the iced Xocolat and mom got the hot Xocolat. Both were sweet and had bits of cacao nib, adding a nice touch of bitterness to counteract the sweetness. Overall a very cute and charming space that provides a small taste of gourmet chocolate to Brownsville!

I enjoy their deserts. This is my go to place for delicious moist pastry and cakes. They have different types of desserts that make it so hard for me to choose. I love their tiramisu as well. The staff is friendly and welcoming. They provide suggestions if you can't decide in what you want. Their coffee is right on point for me. I have tried many coffee shops around town. For deserts this is the place plus they are open till 9pm for those that want something sweet in the evenings. It has a casual earthy ambiance. read more

Long overdue review. The drinks and desserts I had were amazing, but unfortunately, it seems the staff aren't treated amazingly. I was sitting with my family waiting for our drinks when I noticed a manager/the possible owner seemed to be berating an employee. The owner/manager was upset because they assumed my other party at my table was receiving an incorrect order, when it was correct instead of double checking before berating the employee. This left a bad taste in my mouth and gave me possible insight as to how employees are treated here. No matter how good the food or drinks are, I will not be back to support a business that treats its employees so poorly. What a shame. read more

Service was honestly horrible! The girl there looked bothered that we walked in! Asked for a non sweet latte and after waiting too long for it to be made, they gave me a sweetened latte. She forgot about my latte & i could hear her saying so. There was about 5-6 other customers so it wasn't busy. Didn't bother going back & don't plan to in the future. It is pricey and honestly not worth the experience. read more

History

Established in 2016.

Raw Xocolat began during our founder's time in college, as a biomedical major, he learned about the health benefits that cacao has, and the unhealthy connotation that chocolate carries. Jesus Bojorquez attended the Chocolate Academy in Mexico City and began his chocolate journey. He founded Raw Xocolat in 2016 and began selling at local farmer's and through the years Raw Xocolat expanded and in 2020 we were able to open our very first storefront in Brownsville. We look forward to serving our customers the best coffee, chocolate, and pastries that we can.

This is not what you expect from a poke spot. To make matters worse, I ordered my usual spicy tuna bowl, and shortly after eating it, I became very sick with what felt like food poisoning. I've ordered this same bowl many times before without issue, so this experience was alarming. Between the heat, slow service, questionable freshness, and getting sick afterward, I won't be returning. I hope management takes food safety and quality more seriously moving forward.

And with eclectic toppings like HOT CHEETOS WHAT, decadent brownies, cherries, and candy corn (they can't all be winners, I guess), there's something for everyone here. My absolute favorites, in no particular order: Red velvet (Classic, delicious, traditional), strawberry (not cloyingly sweet, still fruity), German chocolate (ohmygodddd), and chocolate with a massive brownie plopped on top (guaranteed to satisfy your resident chocoholic).
