Julia Child speaks facts. And now I have found a restaurant I could eat at mmmm, every day. Steph, we're not worthy. What an amazing menu you've created! My tongue is still tingly from the tantalizing and mind blowing mixtures on lunch today. The Jim Candy and upgraded fries have ruined anyone else's food for me forever. The hubs proclaimed that the Stevie Chicks sandwich is hands down the best chicken sandwich he's ever had. After too many attempts to get in your walk up counter kitchen, I will count it joy to finally get the opportunity to nosh on your creations! Dude- your place's name can't be improved in how accurate it is to describe the flavor sensation: it's RAWKIN' good!u

When we travel to new places we like to use sources like yelp and social media for photos to get a reference of what the food actually looks like. We can better decide if it's for us or not. That's how we found this place. Of course when we drove up and realized it's inside of a gas station convenience store we were a little apprehensive. We decided to go in and take a look and decide from there. We were so glad we decided to give this place a try. The menu is off the charts! If you're a local this is the kind of place you go to over and over and never get tired of because there's always something new to try. We ordered about 5 things and every single item was delicious. My guess is that you probably can't go wrong with anything you order. To top it off the owners are absolute gems. They were kind and helpful with narrowing down menu items for our taste buds. The chef told us they used to be a food truck, as Cali Bay Area natives we are of course obsessed with the food truck craze and the new and inventive way chefs are being creative with food. We will be sure to visit again before heading back to Cali. And it's a good thing we didn't judge this place off of location like some of these other reviewers did! If you're looking for a place where the chef isn't afraid of breaking down boundaries with food and providing good service, this is your place!

Bat Outta Hell with Sweet Thai Chili coleslaw and homemade chips

RAWK'n Grub is the perfect place for someone looking for adventurous flavors. We tried Bat Outta Hell meatloaf sandwich and Misgrits shrimp and grits. The meatloaf was perfectly textured and deliciously seasoned, lightly coated and fried till *just* crispy, but still juicy inside. It came with a side of Sweet Thai Chili Coleslaw that left us wishing we ordered an extra side of it. The blackened shrimp and grits were both cooked to perfection, and the combination of tomato chutney and gouda cheese blended brilliantly for a flavor explosion that I've never experienced while eating grits before. We will definitely be back. Amazingly delicious food, perfectly portioned for the price, made with love and served with care... your tastebuds will thank you!

I always try and support local businesses, especially restaurants. That being said, I don't like to rate my 901 eateries too harshly, because I KNOW ppl are trying. I found Rawkn' Grub on Facebook and after checking out the pics/reviews on yelp I HAD to be there for dinner that night. The food looked delicious and even more creative. I was all in! I didn't map it out before heading there because I know the highland area pretty well. However they are located more on the Summer Ave side. Obviously I got turned around lol I'll admit once I saw it was off of Summer my excitement waned a bit. I NEVER eat from establishments on Summer, don't ask me why it's just a personal rule. So I make it to the gas station and go in to place my order. There's really not a sign inside so it was about 30 seconds of awkwardly walking back and forth in the store trying to make sure I had the right place. Ok so y'all...I ordered a half order of blue suede fries, half order of philly fries, the fleet wood Mac and cheese, and a bbq slider. I really wanted to love everything plus the lady taking the order was super nice and accommodating. But I just couldn't get into it after seeing the person that took my order and my money fix my food without a hairnet. She had a ponytail pulled back but still. Idk maybe it's just me. The food ended up being fine, definitely not what I expected it to be but I wouldn't say that I didn't like it. Would I give it another try? Probably if I was at an event where they had the food truck. I'll more than likely try a burger.

I stopped in Rawk'nGrub after a cold afternoon of volunteering at Overton Square. RnG was recommended since it was nearby. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I received great service. I imagine at night, it's probably a loud bar scene. I noticed a band setting up. I was one of a few patrons at the time. The bartender was knowledgeable and allowed me to sample the 420 Strain Chocolope Stout. It was grreeaat, so I purchased a pint. I told her I was looking for something to warm me up and she suggested the "Missgrits". That was fantastico! Oooh, the grits were so warm and cheesy. The sauce that was used to meld those flavors together just got my engine revving. The shrimp were large and plentiful and every other ingredient just created the perfect harmony. It was a great value too for the price. So skip some other place that's charging upwards of $30 for shrimp and grits. Just head on over to Rawk'n Grub!

Glad I paid $4 for the chips.

I ordered the soulicious chips as a side for $4. I got what is equivalent to a $.50 bag of chips at a gas station. Ordered through Door Dash so I obviously couldn't check the quality/amount prior.

I decided to try this restaurant on my lunch break and I am so glad I did. Chef Steph was so sweet. I don't eat pork, chicken, or beef so I was able to customize my po'boy without the sausage! The portion sizes are huge so you definitely get more than you pay for! The pictures are attached so if you are in the the area, stop by. The food tastes as good as it looks! Tell them Lashaunda sent you!

So I am lucky enough to have Food Truck Friday's at my job and had the chance to try Rawk' n Grub. I ordered on the specials menu and got the Patti La Melte ( beef pattymelt with caramelized onions, smoked gouda pimento cheese, melted american cheese on wheatberry bread) with candied bacon and a side of the fried fleetwood Mac. Let me just say my burger was huge. I wasn't able to finish it all and had leftovers lol but I must say that it was well cooked, flavorful and tasted great. However, I was not a fan of the fried fleetwood Mac. I found it to be extremely salty. I even tried the Blue suede shoestring potatoes that my co-worker ordered. I though they were okay but I also found them to be salty. My co-worker ordered on the specials list as well and ordered the flaming lips burger (smoked gouda pimento cheese, diced jalapenos and applewood smoked bacon stuffed inside an 8oz patty and garlic aioli on a brioche bun. Her burger was massive as well lol but she really liked how flavorful it was. If you want a burger that satisfies your hunger, Rawk'n Grub is the place to go!

Everything on Steph Cooks menu is crazy delicious! We started off with the Fried Green Day Tomatoes & I swear to anyone reading this that there is not a better fried green in the city (possibly the world). They come out crispy & hot, drizzled with oven roasted tomato remoulade, then they're finished with house smoked bleu cheese. We followed up with the Missgrits. It's bourbon sticky spiced shrimp served over Local "Grit Girl" Gouda grits, then they are topped off with scallions & the house smoked bleu cheese. Every bite was a religious experience. We also shared the gumbo. It was a wonderfully spicy, roux based wonder teaming with shrimp, chicken & sausage. For dessert we had fruity pebble encrusted chicken tenders (yeah, you read that right) & the Al Green egg rolls filled with perfectly prepared collards, bacon & kimchi. Crazy delicious. Food porn at it's finest. Please do yourself a favor & go now!!!

I may not be a Phish fan, but -much like their Ben and Jerry's namesake ice cream - I LOVE Phish Tacos. I had a chance to grab them up while Rawk n Grub was at Ridgeway Loop one afternoon. The lady who took my order, graciously chose the tacos for me as opposed to the chicken sandwich. I was debating between the two and she assured me the tacos were a home run. She was SO right! There were 3 tacos chock full of blackened catfish, coleslaw, and black eyed pea/mango salsa. Black eyed peas on fish tacos you say? I was kind of nervous. Plus cilantro lime crema on top? It all sounded like way too much going on, but the ingredients work in perfect harmony. The catfish was tasty and the slaw wasn't overdressed. Fresh and satisfying! I can't wait to try the burgers!

3.5, I think? This was a tough one for me to rate…read more My aunt lives near Las Tortugas and I've been reading about and thinking about visiting for years whenever I'm in the Memphis area. The stars aligned on this most recent visit and so I got to try them. This location in Germantown is a little easy to miss signage-wise, but Google Maps got me here easily. The parking lot is small but paved nicely and easy to navigate. The inside of the restaurant does feel like a deli, with a counter to order at and a small but reasonable amount of seating. The restaurant's accolades are plastered on walls and the glass windows around the food prep area and it's fun to read the history and writing about this place. There is one semi-essay seemingly from the owner, directed at patrons, grousing about customers having certain expectations about the food they're served (Tex-Mex versus authentic Mexican, for example). The owner is adamant that authentic Mexican is served here, and I have no reason to doubt that at all nor expect anything different, but I must admit the tone was rather off-putting. I can see how it would be frustrating to have your food, your work, be misunderstood or misinterpreted, but it kind of felt like I was being lectured when I hadn't done anything, lol. At any rate, I walked up to the counter to order. Service was adequately if not /especially/ friendly. I placed an order for a sandwich (Tortugas de pollo) as well as a limonada (fresh-squeezed limeade) to go. I waited at one of the tables and my order was ready for me in a reasonable amount of time. My favorite thing was the limonada! It had closer to an Icee texture than a juice or limeade texture but I really liked it. Pleasantly sweet and sour and very refreshing. The sandwich was good if not mind-blowing. Maybe my expectations were just a little too high. One problem was that it got pretty soggy very, very fast - it took me less than 10 minutes to get back to my aunt's house and unbox my food and in that time, the bottom piece of bread on my sandwich was close to falling apart. Some of the chicken was also a little too strong-tasting for me; it's hard to describe but I imagine we've all had chicken that's a little too obviously...well, chicken, lol. Not super mild tasting meat, I guess is what I'm trying to say. That aside, I enjoyed the texture of the cheese and the heat of the peppers. The top slice of bread was also nice and crusty. The sandwich came served with a handful of chips less generous than it appears in the photo and some green salsa. The chips were a little over-fried for me but decent enough, and the subtly spicy salsa went well with them. I think the greatest sticking point for me is the price vs. the quantity of food vs. the relative enjoyment. My meal was a solid bit over $30. I prooooobably could've split the sandwich with someone else and been okay, but given the relatively paltry amount of chips, I was also okay eating it as a solo diner. I think if the price had been a little lower, or the portion of chips a little bigger, or the enjoyment of the sandwich a little greater - any one of those things - this would probably round up to a 4. But ultimately the sticker shock and somewhat condescending vibes lead to a lower rating from me. Idk, I would definitely say this restaurant is worth a try and I'm glad I experienced it and would recommend trying it to others who enjoy this type of Mexican food. That said, I'm also not completely confident I'd return on another visit to Memphis. Well, okay, I would definitely for the limonada. That thing was awesome. ;)

The restaurant was not overly busy, which made the entire experience relaxed and enjoyable from the moment we walked in. The first thing that stood out was the service. Everyone there was welcoming, patient, and genuinely friendly. Since it was our first time trying a few things on the menu, we had several questions, and the staff took the time to explain everything without making us feel rushed. They gave recommendations, explained the toppings and flavors, and helped make ordering easy. I decided to try the specialty hot dogs, and honestly, they were amazing. They were packed with flavor and loaded with fresh toppings that worked perfectly together. The combination of creamy avocado, fresh vegetables, sauces, and perfectly cooked meat created a unique flavor that was both fresh and filling. Every bite had something different going on, and you could tell the ingredients were high quality and made with care. The presentation alone looked incredible, but the taste backed it up completely. The atmosphere was comfortable and casual, making it a great place to sit down and enjoy good food with family or friends. Nothing felt rushed, and the overall vibe made the experience even better. If you are looking for something different from the usual restaurant options and want flavorful food with friendly service, Las Tortugas is definitely worth visiting. We will absolutely be coming back again.
