She told me about the shops future plans, which included smoothies (probably October) and a veggie bar. I had the chance to accompany a friend to Spencer Farm for a relatively brief visit. While it was pretty brief, I was impressed. Spencer Farm was started by, you guessed it, the Spencers - Lori and Kyle. It started out as Spencer's U-Pick in 1982. They started out with strawberries. By 1986, they moved to a new farm on Cherry Tree Road. They expanded to include red raspberries, black raspberries, blueberries, and chrysanthemums. They've added pumpkins, asparagus, grapes, Christmas trees, and their son founded a winery that now also sits on the farm grounds. Spencer's now does pre-picked, you-pick, and wholesale fruit. In 2008, they further expanded the farm with a variety of Indiana products including ice cream, fudge, pies, jams, jellies, etc. As you can tell, I immediately wanted to see their sunflower field. I love, love, love sunflowers. One of the reasons I'm not particularly a farm dude is because farms are seldom very accessible. While Spencer's isn't perfect, there's a STRONG effort here to be accessible. I was honestly surprised and impressed. You could send me to the gift shop, and I could be a very happy camper. I will note that they have a strong photography policy. It's on their website, but if you're taking professional equipment I'd read the policies first as there are requirements. There's an awful lot to love here. The people are friendly. The farm is well laid out and surprisingly accessible (the fields obviously have some issues - they're fields). There's accessible parking close to the entrance. This would be a great place for families. Children should definitely enjoy it. There's a strong element of faith here, and that's radiated in the beauty of the surroundings and the service.

This 200-acre establishment offers around 50 acres of apples, 30 acres of vegetables, 20-25 acres of pumpkins, and a greenhouse among other options. There's a small cafe here. There's U-Pick apples, of course, along with U-Pick pumpkins. There's flowers galore, a variety of food items, exhibits classes, tours, and more. They take credit cards (no WIC or SNAP). There's no general admission to get into Tuttle. There's also no parking fee. There are fees for certain activities, and there are obviously fees for items that are sold. There are over 2,000 items in their farm store. I'm a definite fan of the donuts. Yeah, I know. What kind of weirdo goes to an orchard and gets a donut? Me. I'm that weirdo. More than 90% of their plants sold are grown right at the orchard. Tuttle has been around since the early apple trees were planted in 1928. It's now fourth generation Tuttle, though the owners are actually named Roney at this point (but still in the family). Accessibility? Better than expected and obviously intentional. Perfect? Nope. It's an orchard. No orchard will be perfectly accessible, but it's quite good and employees are helpful as much as able. Parking lot offers parking options. They've worked with disabled students, and the hayride is wheelchair accessible. The pumpkin patch is a dirt path, however, for the most part I found it workable. Some may need assistance. The only accessibility issue in most places would be the crowds, as Tuttle can get quite packed - especially on weekends. Tuttles does ask for advance notice for those with disabilities if possible, especially for groups, so guides can adapt material as needed for age/developmental level. Overall, I really enjoyed this visit. It wasn't my first time to Tuttle, though I'd never remembered it well enough to be comfortable reviewing it. After a recent visit, I remembered why I always enjoyed it so much. It was more accessible than expected, everyone was friendly, and a side benefit is really watching all the kids around you have such a good time. There's a reason so many consider an orchard visit a fall tradition. Tuttle Orchard is a great place to start that tradition with your friends and family.

An entrance and separate exit had been set up. The hanging baskets were affordable and gorgeous but I had already purchased my baskets. The annuals and perennials selection was limited but healthy and a nice variety. Once I went inside the stand I found prebagged greenbeans, tomatoes and new potatoes I had to take home with me. They were fresh and made for a nice summer meal. If you're in the area stop by and checkout the selection. It's a short drive from Plainfield on US 40.

There were some carnival rides available to ride and they seemed to be a bit old, outdated. The fall festival is definitely geared towards children and we didn't find many adult activities available. We enjoyed looking at the pumpkins on the tram ride and having a hot apple cider. Next year I would try a different fall festival/ pumpkin patch.
