Business owner did not show up first day as planned. Services were completed to satisfaction days after. However, credit card was charged double. After several phone calls and no answer text messages were sent in a response. Said we would receive the refund by a certain date. It was over $1000. We did not receive the refund and proceeded to process a fraud claim with the credit card company and go to law enforcement. Once law enforcement reached out to the company only then did they process the refund. Turns out the companies owner has a history of issues with law enforcement and irregular finances. They have owed our company a bill for like 2 years of like $700 they just never paid and had the audacity to try to schedule us to do another removal so they could settle their bill with us. The sinks in my bathroom and kitchen were completely clogged, the washer was backing up into the kitchen sink and there was an awful odor coming from the laundry room. The team snaked the kitchen drain pipe and checked to see if a trap was properly installed for the washer drain with minimal mess and damage to the kitchen. After unclogging all the drains, Phil advised as to how to care for the laundry drain and measured for a bathroom sink replacement. Our hot water heater exploded and flooded our basement on July 4th called Flanagan plumbing they walked me through shutting off the water on the phone and came out that morning to bring me shop vacs and floor fans to help with the clean up. I called RF to help me with a leaking kitchen sink over a week ago. The tech came 8 days ago and was super nice, however he left me with a non fully functioning sink. My 87 year old mother called Ray Flanagan Plumbing for a leak. Two people arrived and told her they required an $1100 retainer. They cut two holes in the walls, took off faucets and a diverter in her downstairs bathroom and left without correcting the leak. Another plumber came back a few days later and put back the faucet/diverter but never found or fixed the leak. I had to call another plumber who found the leak (a dishwasher hose had failed), fixed the leak and charged me $300. I have spoken with Flanagan's office 3 times now and asked for an itemized bill, a refund of any money from the retainer that wasn't used and a call back from Todd (Flanagan) the owner. No response, no refund of unused funds. I called the police to see if they would get involved but they said "it's not a criminal matter" but a civil one so I should hire an attorney...which I will. We won't use Flanagan Plumbing anymore after many tries. Sometimes the plumber who shows up is competent. Usually not. They're expensive and they seldom get the job done right the first time. They told us they'd get our water tested for us so we drove to their office and handed them the sample in the bottle they provided. You can call to make the appointment, but 9/10 times they will not show up without several harassing phone calls. The plumbers who do show up to get the work done are great and they've been helpful, but we've honestly had so many issues where they do not arrive for the appointment and there is no notice from them that they aren't coming. This past week and a half was the last straw. We were without heat for a week last week and they came and informed us that the damper on our steam boiler was broken and needed to be replaced. We set up the appointment for the following day and my husband stayed home and waited for them and missed out on half of a days worth of pay. No one came. Several calls to the office went unanswered. Mixed results. I lost my heat one night and in the AM I called their service number and they were able to send someone over that AM. That was really impressive considering I have never used them before. A+ for that. Where things were less than ideal.. I told them my boiler was older and they sent a younger guy who did not seem to know as much as I would have liked about my system. He started off suggesting I need a new system (likely, but not a lot of detail other than "its old"), he then suggested I might consider rebuilding the expansion tank as its likely the diaphragm was bad (older designs like mine do not have diaphragms). After 2 visits that day from my younger tech (he forgot his tools), he was able to diagnose and replace the Aquastat to get theheat back on, but I still had the "bang" that occurs when the heat kicks on (happening for a year, well before the no heat situation...). So I called and the woman basically said "We will have that tech speak to one of our more experienced techs and get back to you, but if you do not hear from us in a week give us another call"... No returned call..... Seems I am likely in the market for a system, but they don't seem interested in investing any "non billable time"... So while I greatly appreciate their quick service, I do not have enough information to make a decision and so I am speaking to other heating contractors about repair/replacement options. Its shame as they are in my town and I would have preferred to give them the work if possible. I drive by their shop almost every day... read more

I hired this company to snake out my washing machine drain. Two so called plumbers showed up. They had no idea how to do this job properly. The did not have the tools needed with them. After me showing them where to get a direct access to the pipe and not have to go through the pipe traps the did the best they could with the tool they had. I lent them a garden hose to flush the pipe out with fresh water. They then took the pump chamber apart in my basement to see if that was the problem. It wasn't clogged. Little did I know that they didn't tighten all the fittings they took apart. When my wife did the laundry the pipes came apart and flooded my basement very bad. What a mess. I called there office five time and explained to the secretary what happened. I asked her to please have the owner call me. After a week no call back. I paid them a lot of money and this is what I get. Do not hire this company. They are terrible and don't stand behind there work. They claimed it was because the job was more difficult than anticipated and had required two plumbers. HOWEVER they arrived with two plumbers - meaning they knew it was going to cost more and simply lied about the quote. On top of this the plumber was rude when we questioned the price. Based on attitude alone, I would not feel comfortable having them in my home again. The worst plumbing experience of my life. Ray Flanagan took $125.00 from me in order to diagnose the problem we were dealing with (that's $125.00/ hour US). Then they promised a solution across the New Year holiday and didn't show. I have not showered in two days. My sewage outflow was not as urgent as simple furnace fixing. Expect to spend 15 minutes or more waiting on their answering service. Their "after hours" technician never replied. Their techs are not the problem. Their office manager Kerry cannot hang up on you quickly enough. She is rude, brusk, worthless. Following Hurricane Sandy, Ray Flanagan Inc., was doing a brisk business pumping out basements in the beach area of Fairfield, where my home is located. As I had 4' of water in my lower-level family room, I approached one of the company's employees (who at the time was pumping out my neighbor's basement) to see if I could arrange the same service at my home. The employee checked with his manager and told me that the company could pump out my basement as soon as its current job was completed. Shortly thereafter, the employee and his manager walked over to my home, investigated the situation and -- without even moving their truck -- ran a large hose into my lower level and began pumping. So far so good; then the bill came. For less than 4 hours of man time (2 employees x 2 hours), I was charged $330 in labor or $82.50/hour which, based on my findings, is more than twice the average hourly rate for plumbing services nationally. What's worse was an additional $150 charge for "material" added to the invoice. When I called to explain that no materials had been used at my home, I was told the charge covered the pump's gas and "cleaning." But even if 5 gallons of diesel fuel had been used, that amounts to less than $20. And as "cleaning" isn't a material at all, any such charge should have been captured under "labor." Now, I've no idea how many houses Ray Flanagan pumped out in the days and weeks following Hurricane Sandy, but I'm guessing the number was significant. And to charge each customer $150 for gas and "cleaning," on top of its exorbitant hourly labor rates, smacks of the worst kind of post-disaster price gouging. I contacted the company to inquire, and it was quite unapologetic. read more

I've used Ray Flanagan for 20 years, and have found them honest and competent. For one job, my renovation contractor used a less expensive outfit, but although their work was good, they were a small shop and never were there to answer the phone. When you need a plumber, you NEED them to take your call! So I've been back with Flanagans for 5 years now and they are always reachable and reliable. I think that the negative ratings due to late or schedule changes are due to unreasonable expectations about what it takes to do a plumbing job -- they work at the previous job until it's fixed and can't call that in advance over the phone, but they do notify you. I had one of the most stressful experiences with this company. They completely lack professionalism, and don't give a shit about their customers. Go with another service for sure. Read on for a long and detailed description of my dreadful experience: I had a broken hot water heater, which ended up having a bad igniter. This also prevented my heating system from working, since it uses hot water. This occurred on a Thursday night, which caused me to call Friday morning. They were quick to come out and diagnose the problem. The plumber was there for almost 3 hours, and my roommate said he left at one point for almost an hour. All of this to diagnose a broken igniter. So the plumber leaves, and writes on the note that we need to call the water heater company and order a new igniter and have it shipped to our apartment so he can install it on Monday. Does that make any sense to me? No, not really, but I call anyway. The company (Polaris, were very friendly on the phone), stated that any generic igniter replacement can be used in lieu of the Polaris igniter. So my plumber "of 13 years", doesn't know this, and didn't want to take 5 minutes out of his 3 hour visit to even call the company who makes the water heater to figure this out. This leads me to calling a plumbing supply store, provided by Polaris, possibly thinking I'm a plumber. The supply store states that they do not sell to individuals, and only sell to contractors. Okay, so back to square one, all the meanwhile I have no heat or hot water. So I call these guys and leave them a message, stating that I can't buy the part from the supplier, and it really shouldn't be my responsibility either. They never returned my call. Monday: I call them asking for an update. "We pulled the paperwork, and have ordered the igniter. We will have it tomorrow (Tuesday)". Tuesday. I call them asking for an update. "Oh sorry, there was a delay in the shipping it will be here Wednesday, we will call you when we're 20 minutes out." Wednesday. I call them asking for an update around noon. "The driver left now, he will be there shortly". I rush home from my office, and proceed to wait over an hour for the guy to show up. Then for him to finish his cigarette. He comes in, looks at the part, recognizes that it doesn't actually fit the unit. So he decides to attempt to Jerry-rig it, and saw off the ends to it will fit the bracket. He comes back in, and calmly states, "It broke, I am going to run to the supply store to try to get another." So he leaves, stating he will call me. Two things about this, A) If he could run to the supply store and get a replacement, he could've done that at any time, it's freakin Wednesday. B) He never called, so I call him, to which he stated "I'm at another job, I couldn't get the piece, we'll overnight it and I'll come back tomorrow." Awesome, thanks dude. I have a job too and sat on my ass for an hour while you decided not to call me back. Thursday: I call them asking for an update. "The shipment won't be here until tomorrow". Apparently "overnight shipping" doesn't define which night it will be shipped over. Friday: I call them asking for an update. "The part is in, and we'll be there in 20 minutes". I've heard this before, so I left 40 minutes later, what a smart move that was because I only had to wait 5 minutes. The same plumber comes into my apartment for a 3rd time, he knew his way around, almost as though we were friends. He installs the new igniter, and we get everything running again. On to the billing. Labor = $120/hr, for this top notch service They billed me 3 hours, 1.5 for diagnosis. 1.5 for installing the part. Probably threw on another 30 minutes when this guy was eating a PBJ in the truck. They billed me for PLASTIC GLOVES and TAPE. Is that a joke? No it wasn't a joke, it was $2.00. Apparently "operating expenses" never occurred to these people. They billed me for the part, obviously. "But don't worry, we didn't bill you for the one I broke". Yeah, no shit. We left off with the nice quote of, "I won't leave your apartment until you pay me. If you don't I will go and remove the igniter." Nothing ends a quality professional experience like a threat. Do yourself a favor and find another plumber. read more

Well, I should have looked at the reviews first (other than the suspicious 5 star). I hired this company to fix a small leak that was dripping into my dining room. They came and were polite and courteous, and they didn't charge too much. Unfortunately the leak continued. When I called them again they agreed to return and correct their mistake, but the plumber that showed up then invented the clearly spurious excuse that in fact this was a new leak, although it was in the exact same place, and I was charged once again (now their price didn't appear so reasonable). I can only hope the leak is fixed now, but I doubt it, and I will probably have to pay another plumber a third time to have this small leak fixed. read more

They were so professional. We had some blocked drains and toilets and we had had several plumbers during the course of the year come and unblock it but it was literally a band- aid solution. Our main line was blocked due to tree roots. They came the next day, dealt with us and the landlords and removed all the tree roots and fixed the problem. Based on my experience with Flanagan, I would never recommend using them. Ray Flanagan was hired to perform a simple toilet repair and after three trips to my home the toilet was still not fixed properly. Flanagan had the audacity to materially overcharge charge me for a repair that they never made. I refused to pay Flanagan and their attorney threatened to take me to small claims court. I called another plumber to fix the toilet and the issue was resolved in 30 minutes and I paid them in full upon receipt of the bill. read more

They answered the phone immediately on my first call, listened, and scheduled me asap. They showed up ON TIME. They were so nice, professional, and knew more than any plumber I've ever had. The best thing was that they recommended how they could help at minimal cost as opposed to trying to inflate the price. I then hired them back for another job, and once again, perfect. We have had to have Ray Flanagan out on 2 separate occasions in the last year to repair the other guy's work. I had a warranty issue with a State Select water heater. Ray Flanagan is listed as a warranty service provider. Initially they came out and said the unit needed new gas valve and thermocouple. Made me call the manufacturer to order parts because they did not want to be involved and they complained to me that they don't get fully paid by the manufacturer for their time. Really? Then get off the list of service providers. That's not the end user's issue. Anyway, they replaced the parts that i got for them and the water heater pilot is still going out like before. i call them and they say they don't want to be involved anymore. Now they are making up a story that it is the fault of the original installer. Really? Why didn't you say that in the first place. I'll tell you why, because they don't care. i called manufacturer and they apologized for my having to deal with this type of attitude and to try someone else on the list. After reading some of the other reviews i see there is a common theme with Ray Flanagan of helping themselves, but not other people if things get too tough to figure out. Don't use Ray Flanagan because you might end up with a bigger problem than you bargained for and then have to get another company to actually solve the problem for you.
