I visited the original Raygun in downtown Des Moines many years ago, but finally just took a peak into the Crossroads KC location, although I have kept up with them on-line. If you love Kansas City, the Midwest and have a progressive attitude toward culture and politics then Raygun is a store that will make you smile if not chuckle out loud a few times while browsing. Trump apologists, Orange County republicans, and Southern evangelicals, keep on moving...nothing to see here! I am heading to an out of town birthday party and found some great gifts, including a few things in the close-out section in the back left corner of the store. I bought a Kansas City t-shirt, Kansas mug, a girl power deck of playing cards, and several hilarious and positive cards and stickers. Hells yeah. I've been a fan of Raygun for a while. I was introduced to this Iowa-based company by friends who had relocated from Des Moines and shared my sense of humor, and almost instantly fell in love with their products. When I heard they were moving to KC I was unreasonably excited. And now, they're here! Raygun sells t-shirts and tanks for men and women, as well as postcards, notebooks and stickers, most boasting aggressively proud pro-midwest slogans. For example, I have a shirt that says "I lived in Kansas City before it was cool," and a sticker for my laptop that says "Yo, I'm from Kansas City, bitch!" I figure that right there should tell you if this is the type of store for you. I like their merch, I like their attitude, and I like retail coming into the neighborhood. Sun's Out Guns Out Simple but cute... especially on a comfy tank top for my toddler. I know he'll wear it all summer long! Matt E made a point to take me by Raygun during my recent visit to KC. He knew I'd like it, and he was right! Sure, Raygun is based in Iowa, but they carry merchandise that is quirky and fun that any midwesterner can appreciate. Being the Kansas City location, they did have a ton of stuff (think t-shirts and accessories, keychains, stickers, notebooks, drinkware, etc...) for locals, but there's plenty more for tourists as well. This place is AWESOME!!! I was at an event and just happened to notice them so had to stop in. Immediately I saw some merchandise with Des Moines on it and was all smiles. I commented to the nice man working about it and he explained that they were out of Iowa. This makes me very happy, Iowa and KC coming together! You will find a lot of great Tshirts, stickers, magnets, beer glasses, etc. all with cleaver sayings. Many of the items are focused local or regional. I can show my KC love along with my Iowa loyalty all with one stop at Raygun! There is a discount bin in the back with everything $5. I don't know if this is normal, but I picked up a book that looked funny and a great bathroom reader! I was really impressed with the overall prices. $21 for custom tshirts, less than $2 for great stickers and magnets. I would like to see a little lower price on the glasses as I would love to get a set, but at $11 each, ouch. Maybe a bulk buying discount. I think I need 8 of them with different sayings/pictures. Shirts, buttons, glasses, stickers reflecting a certain political point of view (left, gender friendly, pro science, woman's rights) and many that hype Kansas City (what resident doesn't love the KCMO?), the mid west and other MW cities (why do people think Ohio is the mid west?) This place is thick with the hipster vibe, from it's conifer beard oil, to snarky books, to the clientele, but it does offer an excellent array of cool and useful products that are worth a stop. read more

Raygun is always good for some laughs. The shirts are comfortable and the punny, unique and eye catching phrases are awesome. I own a couple of their shirts. An Iowa State fair one and a "straight outta Kauffman". Also have a "rather be drinking bacon" coaster on my desk at work. I had no idea what to expect when I walked in but I was pleasantly surprised - this place is HILARIOUS! On par with the humor exhibited at Acme Gift in MHK, I was reading everything I walked by - t-shirts, postcards, stickers, coasters, mugs, you name it! A nod to the midwest, this store is based in Des Moines but fit perfectly here in KC ("too big for one state"). I first grabbed a coaster that read, "WORDS ON A COASTER." Then I picked up magnets for my fridge: "wave when you fly over Kansas," a state of Kansas with the word "Captive" instead of Native, and a peace-love-Kansas design. I browsed all of the t-shirts and came across one that stopped me in my tracks: "JUST KILLING TIME UNTIL I MOVE TO AUSTIN." I HAD to have this shirt. This is basically something Eric R. tells me all of the time, since he mocks me in a high-pitched voice whenever anyone utters Austin, screeching, "THE GREATEST CITY IN THE UNIVERSE!" I do long for Austin as some of the best times of my life were there, so I bought this shirt! I would definitely come back to get gifts or just laugh. What an awesome concept. read more

Trying to shop small business today! 3 employees working we had to walk on a snow covered sidewalk into the store! Then they were too busy chatting with each other than to even greet us we were in there for over 5 minutes! They continued their conversation and had no time to assist us. We left!
