A worthwhile stop during the sugaring season! My friend who lives in NYC told me that she regularly buys maple candies from Raymond Sugar House on Etsy. So when we were in Vermont during Maple Open House weekend, we decided to stop by! The place wasn't even listed on Yelp at the time, so we had no idea what to expect. We pulled into the driveway of a home and were a bit unsure of where to go. We knocked on the door and were greeted by co-owner Amy who invited us inside and explained the products they had for sale (maple syrup in different sizes and 1 lb. boxes of maple candy). We bought a pint of syrup and the maple candy. Then she let us know that her husband Kevin was out back in the sugar house, and we should pop in and check it out! We crossed their yard and entered the sugar house where we found Kevin and a few other guys sugaring it up. Kevin explained more about the process to us and even showed us on his phone how they can tell when to go collect sap from their trees which are not on property. We were the only customers there at the time, and it was such a unique, personal experience to hear directly from the owner about the process as well as how factors like the weather affect syrup quality, timing, and amount. Once home in MA, we tried the (super fresh!) maple syrup and candies and can attest to their high quality and deliciousness. I get two pounds of their "Bumps and Bruises" maple sugar candy every month or so, and I have to ration myself not to eat too much. They're sooooo good. I love that they're pure maple syrup. I'm in LA, so I get them by mail, and I'm always so happy when they come. They keep me from binging on other types of sweets that are far less healthy. I'm so glad I found them! read more
