omg the best torta ihave had in santa cruz. hands downn ! the bread was crunchy but soft and the filling inside was overflowed with meaty and creamy goodness from the avocado and the sour cream. it was my first time and everything else my friends ordered before looked amazing as well. the portions are good sized and the prices are very affordable&they have a wide selection to choose from. everything is made fresh when ordered and there are specials as well. today when i went there was a lasagna plate special which looked amzing as well !! they only take cash and the lines can get long. but the food is well worth it ! plus like after the rush at around 2 then the line does start to lie down. read more

Love the food, best I've had in Santa Cruz! Pericos is my go to place usually but only because rays is only available to me on campus between 12-2. If it weren't for that I'd pick Ray's over any other Mexican place in Santa Cruz . anyways, the food is great and the service is great. You do have to wait in line for a while but that's only because the food is so awesome! . the only thing I do not like about rays is that its cash only. I respect their decision to keep it that way but it just sucks for me because 99℅ of the time I do not have cash on me. read more

Gross! I have brought the supreme carne asada burrito twice, and both times were poorly made. The beef was burnt so bad I had to spit it out. There is virtually no taste of sour cream or avocado. I felt like barfing after eating their food. They also overcharge their expired drinks as I see the guy shopping them in bulk at Safeway and adding $2 to the price. The line is also not worth the time. Just because UCSC has so little choices of food stores, it is quite sad that students would falsely phrase this unsanitized truck as good. I overheard the guy working there mention that any food not sold is stored and remade another day. So keep that in mind next time your beef tastes funny. read more

There's always a line waiting for Ray's catering truck-- even before it gets there. Alicia (the super nice cook) prepares bomb food. It's nice to be able to walk out of section or the library and get some nice Mexican food. On Tuesday and Thursdays, they have fajitas that have been marinated from the night before and cooked to perfection. The torta is usually your best bet. Don't forget hot sauce and their roasted jalapeno peppers. read more

If you think the burritos are good then I'm sorry but you must not have eaten many burritos. I got the Burrito Supreme for $6 (Cheap!), but damn that was an extremely unsatisfying burrito. It wasn't flavorful at all and was packed with way more rice than anything else. The red and green salsas also weren't particularly good. The prices for everything except the tacos ($2.50/ea) are cheap so it's definitely a nice place to get a cheap lunch when you're on campus though. read more

Love Ray's Taco truck and love Ray! They come to our building every weekday at 11am. Breakfast burritos are awesome!! and the bacon cheeseburger "california style" with avocado and grilled onions is TO DIE FOR. Everything is really reasonably priced and there is a large range of food options and prices. Even if I only have like $2.50 I can find something on the menu that will do the trick for lunch. My favorite food to eat at UCSC. This truck is a savior since the campus suffers from a severe lack of good food options. Raymond's Catering's offers Mexican food, burgers, and drinks, and they're all really tasty and affordable, making this truck a great option for students on a budget. On top of that, Ray and Alicia are some of the nicest people I've ever met! Most of the time they're at UCSC's Science Hill from Monday to Friday around 12 PM - 2 PM. Although there's usually a big line, it's definitely worth the wait and money. read more

I stood in line for an hour, maybe more, in the shade by physical sciences where it's so cold! the line took so long, I couldn't believe it. I get to the front, and typical America, there's a Mexican woman in the truck cooking all the food and taking all the orders and a white man standing outside collecting your money. I ordered a steak burrito. Instead of lettuce or even regular cabbage, they used purple cabbage and lots of it. It was not very good especially considering the wonderful selection in this area for affordable mexican food. I have not been back to the truck since. I have recently noticed some more food trucks in the area, so yay! read more

Oh my! Just finished the yummiest chile relleno burrito I've ever had! How could you do better than real home-style food served by great people? It always brings a smile to my face to walk over to Alicia and Ray's truck. Everything is very tasty, and Alicia will make it however you ask - extra meat or salad, no hot sauce (or lots!); however you want it, she'll do it. Ray's truck isn't just up at the university; it's in town, too. I get my Ray's at Ingalls Street between Swift and Fair on the West Side of Santa Cruz. They are there weekdays mid-morning 9:30 ish?, then again around 11:30. It's the favorite of all the winemaker-foodies in the area! read more

I was a little hesitant trying this taco truck at first, but let me tell you, there is a line for a reason. Ray's Catering reminds me of the various and yummiest taco trucks in LA - which is a compliment. Best place to eat on campus? More like best place to eat in Santa Cruz. Nothing can beat their prices. Ray serves up decent food at a decent price, when noone else on UCSC campus seems to be able to manage that. They get a lot of their ingredients from Costco, so you don't have to worry about it being sketchy meat. The tortas rule if you're looking for something to try. And when Ray has a special item on the menu (ie the occasional pasta plate) they are always worth a try. read more

I have been eating from Rays for about 10 years. I have never had something I did not love. 5 speed burrito is amazing and when you work at 5 a.m. come 8 a.m. that gets me thru the day. I also love the carne asada tacos, simple fresh amazing. Ray is always super nice and fun, I give him a bad time all the time. The young lady who cooks for him (wish I could remember her name) is super sweet, fast and a smile that never stops I make it a point to say hello to her. Great, inexpensive, lively with Ray and (I don't know her name) cooking in the van. Both are extremely jovial and supply a great product on campus. The cook is amazing to watch put together multiple orders and still have a sweet demeanor. Ray hops in and out, helping her inside and chatting up, making change outside, keeping it all moving. Just try their asada or al postor quesadilla; really doesn't get much better than this. Burrito's are less impressive in my opinion but a lot of people seem to enjoy them. Come between 2-3pm sometimes you can avoid the line (which tends to provide an average of about 15-20 minutes of waiting). California Burger was pretty good. Alicia is a very nice and friendly woman; you can tell she really cares about what she's serving her customers. Definitely best food on campus. read more
