Different Cheesesteak #1266. 2 dogs, beer, and cheesesteaks continue! I went to Ray's and got a cheesesteak with fried onions. I took my cheesesteak and 2 grand dogs next door to Swedesboro Brewing Company. Swedesboro Brewing is kid and dog-friendly until 7 pm. Outside food is always welcome--more on them in a different post. The cheesesteak was a standard-ish pizza shop cheesesteak. The roll wasn't going to hurt you. It had a decent amount of chopped meat. Ray's is your super-typical South Jersey pizza joint. From first glance, it looks very similar to the Woodstown Joe's inside, but it's not as clean. Two guys were on the job and didn't lower their booming Spanish music when I walked in. It remained empty of other patrons throughout my visit yesterday. Ambiance aside, I was most concerned with the pizza slice. I ordered two plus an Italian hoagie. While the pizza was good, it wasn't stellar. Considering Joe's and Ciconte's are both nearby and pump out killer pies, there's no reason for me to stop in again. I was also super bummed with the hoagie. Boring, flappy meat, tasteless cheese, and thick, stale bread. They need to up their hoagie game. Oh, and my grand total for 2 normal sized slices and a sad hoagie? $12.50. Not worth the price. I'm glad to have finally experienced the place, but it's unlikely I'll return. read more

Ray's is awesome! The prices are reasonable, the guys behind the counter are friendly and the actual place is clean. Typical Jersey pizza parlor making great pies. Period. The crust is crispy--not overly so and not too doughy. The perfect balance. Good cheese to tomato sauce ratio and a thinner overall pie, but stands up on its own in your hand. You know what I mean. Definitely give 'Em a whirl. They don't deliver but hop in the car and drive on over. read more

This place is an embarrassment of a pizza place. There were flies ALL OVER the pizza and surrounding the entire shop. Flies were even flocking in my hair. They probably procreated in there and ignited a fly family. I am very unsatisfied bringing a fly family home with me like a souvenir. The workers were aware of flies but continued working as if they were not there. This is DISGUSTING and NAUSEATING. They must not have learned about cross contamination in culinary school. When Rays first started out the pizza was really good, and so were the cheese steaks and hoagies. It seems like with most small places that get overwhelmed with volume, the quality goes down. Last time we ordered pizza we got home only to find out most of the crust was burned (not crispy). Also, beware of the owner. Friendly guy, but has a bad habit of flirting with any female that walks through the door, calling them, "girlfriend", "honey", etc. Hopefully they can get back to the quality service they used to provide. Heard good things online. Decided to give it a go and switch things up. I ordered a cheese pizza and boneless wings. Wings are crunchy and the pizza was at best, bland. The hermanos doing the actual cooking have natural gourmet tendencies. Every pie I've gotten here is perfect. Tonight's sausage and mushroom pie was like a cheese souffle with a crispy bottom. Best pizza in the Swedesboro area. The dough is soft with that bottom crispness. The sauce is quite good and a nice flavor balance with the crust. I usually order a slice of the Sicilian with red sauce and a slice of plain white pizza (cheese with no toppings). All of their pizza is good, but those are my two favorites and they are a nice balance While I think most of their business is pick-up/take-out, they have ample seating. The tables are always clean, and the staff would probably gladly clean off a table if needed. I like their staff a lot. They're usually really on the ball, and they seem to keep the pizza displays fresh. They're also very polite and quick with a smile. Parking is easy because it's in a shopping plaza. Prices are fair! They sell chips, drinks, sides, hoagies, sandwiches, and Italian dishes, too. There is a soda fountain, and I think they have more bottle options available. read more

Looked for a pizza place last minute and relied on good ole' Yelp. Found Ray's and I have to say I was pleasantly pleased!! Drove there to pick it up and I was happy I did! The guy behind the counter was pleasantly amusing and joking around. We found this place by using yelp, we saw it had great reviews so we decided to pop in. All I can say is, wow...the pizza was wonderful, they made everything fresh, pan fried the chicken, kneaded the dough, the whole nine yards. We loved our pie and the guy at the counter, who also made the pie, was very friendly, funny, and generally welcoming in every way. He asked how we made our wY in since it is a bit far off the beaten path, and we said we were out of town, on the road, and found it online. Place has severely gone down hill. Used to be the best pizza in town but over the past year is not enjoyable at all. Got an order of MozzSticks and a Cheesesteak and neither had much flavor and the MozzSticks only made me want to go to another place to actually enjoy an order of MozzSticks.... Oi. The cheese steaks are great as well as that special mozzarella on the pies. But how hard is it to get the order right. I ordered 2 pies and a calzone. I showed up for pickup and the calzone was never put in. That's ok. Just let the pizzas get cold while you now cook the calzone. For a pizza place it's fantastic! The staff is very nice and pleasant. I go there with my wife and daughter and they go out of there way to treat my daughter who is 3 nice.
