The term 'Steak Joint' comes to mind as Ray's is a loud bar & grill that happens to serve up excellent food. I guess it's located in 'beef county' which allows them access to good cuts and they clearly have the preparation down pretty good. Our steaks were excellent and the service was friendly. My only complaint is that coming from California Wine County, the limited selection of (only) house wine was a bit disappointing although not terrible. We'll clearly eat at Ray's next time we're in town. read more

Popped in here while driving through after 10 hours on the road. Suggested by a local Walked in and were told to set ourselves anywhere, so we made our way to the back room. Greeted promptly by a friendly server who told us the menu was the board in the corner. We ordered a ribeye medium rare, side salad with ranch, and fries - to share. Salad was a classic diner salad but had beets!!! And their ranch was delish. It was exactly what I wanted. The fries are legit straight off the potato and suuuuh good. The Tibet was perfectly cooked, with an excellent char but needed a bit of seasoning. Everything was also good later that night when I snacked on it again! Stopped into this little gem based on Yelp reviews and it did not disappoint. In a town where most businesses have closed down Ray's Tavern is clearly thriving. Ambiance was a cozy hometown feel full of nice people. Tables were full when we arrived around 1:30pm but one cleared quickly and we grabbed it. The waitress, Celica, was right there to take drink orders, which were delivered promptly and within 10 minutes we were eating fresh, hot, delicious burgers and fries. Beef very fresh and fries fresh cut. Hubs paired his with a draft beer and life was good! Thanks to Ray and his crew for providing a 5 star experience in Green River. read more

Driving from Capitol Reef NP to Grand Junction, this is the first and last food and gas heading East on HWY 70 after you leave the rural road from Capitol before Grand Junction. The drive into Green River from the Hwy is not very encouraging. And from the exterior Ray's looks like what it is. A locally owned bar and restaurant in a dying town off the Hwy. Until you open the doors and look inside it could go either way. The initial appearance inside is cozy and welcoming. The staff are bright and cheerful. The restroom is clean, tidy and fully functional. I believe Ray's could single handedly revive all of Green River. Oh can I say a word to the lady who made the Apple Pie : " Will you marry me please " Give Ray's a try. read more

We were dying of hunger from traveling all day so we went here because a man recommended it in the long wait line at Tamarisk down the road. I saw on these yelp reviews that someone reviewed the steaks to be tough and tasteless: boy was he right. There was no seasoning on any of their meats. I ordered the Ribeye and I just salted it a lot. My boo ordered the pork chops, sent that back, to order a burger which was tasteless as well. Who can mess up a burger? When the server took our order she asked, "What salad dressing do you want?" We said, "Italian and Blue Cheese." 15 minutes later my bf asked the server, "Can we have our dinner salads?" She was busy doing her clean up for the closing. She answered back, "Oh you have salads? You should have told me." I said, "You asked what kind of dressing we wanted." She said, "You should have come back here and made them." The good point of this place was it had the vibe we wanted for a Sunday night. We watched the football gamer at the bar so that was cool. The servers were cute but like I said, it seemed like they were more into getting out of there at closing then serving us. Last but not least, we both woke up with a queasy stomach. My wife had the chicken teriyaki dinner, and said it was very good. Ribeye for me, and it was also very good -- menu said it was a twelve ouncer, but had to be closer to a pound! Both had a baked potato (choice of that, fries, or cole slaw). Also came with a fairly large supper club-style iceberg salad. Service was great, and drinks, salads and entrees all came out quickly, in spite of a pretty good crowd on an early Saturday evening. When you drive by, your instinct will be to keep going. DON'T!! For ambiance, it's a typical hole in the wall place but without that stale beer, mildewed towel smell. The staff is also friendly, efficient and seem like they actually like each other. We had 4 different people come by our table to check on us in an unobtrusive way - the right service at the right time. This is the kind of place where the salt, pepper, mustard and ketchup are on the table. While I was shaking the ketchup bottle to get more out (Heinz 57 so pretty typical) another bottle miraculously appeared at the table without me asking. Well done!! This team has been well-trained. As for the food, we both got cheeseburgers with fries. Yum! The burger was good (and kinda massive) but the fries were the star of the show - hand cut and delicious. I had to stop myself from eating every last one of them. The menu isn't extensive but they have a nice variety including burgers, teriyaki chicken and filets. Bring cash if you have it - each item costs a tiny bit more if you use your card. The beer options were also good. Overall, we were thoroughly impressed with this place. I was driving home from Moab and needed to eat some dinner and my friend said this was a great place to stop. It's nice that it has a bar you can sit at or open seating throughout the restaurant. The menu is written on a whiteboard above the bar seating and is simple with burgers and a few other sandwiches to choose from. We ordered a cheeseburger and extra side of fries to split.
