Had an appointment to meet with my private buyer who wanted to finance my car through his bank here at RBFCU. According to the buyer, he was already pre-approved over the phone for the full price we agreed upon. The actual employees at this bank were only useful as far as faxing the appropriate paperwork, but everything else was handled via videoconference. I was under the assumption that this whole process wouldn't take that long from what I was told, but that wasn't the case. We hit a lot of snafus along the way where the bank had trouble appraising my car and ultimately, my clear title resulting in a lower price than what was originally approved. The loan officer solely relied on a version of the Kelley Blue Book system, but my limited edition vehicle's specs were unlisted so they had to downgrade and use an inferior model for the appraisal value. This was unacceptable and my husband and I were prepared to walk out as there seemed to be no way around this. Somehow, they found a way to increase the appraisal, but were still short $500 which the buyer managed a way to finance and/or come out of pocket for the full price by factoring in the TT&L and other associated costs. Three hours later, I walked out with a cashier's check for the full amount and a notarized bill of sale. All in all, this was a learning experience for everyone involved. Just would've liked if this whole situation could've been handled a lot better.

We were eventually told by RBFCU that they will issue a debit card - without vetting - if someone simply provides a name and social security number, over the phone. (Of course, through data breaches, whose name and SSN isn't available for fraudulent use?) Although the closed accounts had security protocols, such as "secret question & answers," none of those were apparently required to issue a debit card on a closed account. Writing this review to share the above information and to query why the attached review, written by someone else, has been hidden. It accurately describes our experience in opening an account (same thing: it was conducted via video interview with someone we understood to be in the San Antonio area). After all that vetting to open the account, we were shocked that it was really easy for a fraudster to request a debit card on a closed account. The only reason we were alerted to the fraud was that the debit card was mailed to our address. Apparently, even though the fraudster may have requested a change of address, the card came to us. Based on our complaint, RBFCU informed us that it did present the matter to its Internal Audit department for review. Perhaps it is standard operating procedure for Credit Unions to e-z issue debit cards on closed accounts. But, hiding a review which accurately (at least based on our own experience) describes the RBFCU account-opening process surprised us...and motivated this review.

Upon entering, there was a girl sitting at a desk and I said "I'd like to open an account please." She promptly said "I cannot do that for you right now because I am at lunch ". (she obviously had already eaten her lunch because she was sitting at her desk doing other things., the correct thing for her to do is be an exceptional employee and figure out how to open an account for my elderly mother) I said "do you have anyone covering for you?" and she said "yes, but she is at lunch too." (Obviously this girl does not understand what covering for you means). I repeated myself using different verbiage. "Does anyone open the accounts while you are at lunch? " She said slowly as if trying to get me to understand "yes but she is at lunch". Oh my gosh. I said "OK what time do you get back from lunch?" and she said "I cannot help you today. You will have to call and make an appointment. " I'm literally standing there with an 85-year-old woman in a wheelchair wanting to open an account and I am told NO My family has been with Randolph Brooks for three generations. This is the first time anything like this has ever happened. Everyone in my family has an account with Randolph Brooks. I have walked into the Randolph Brooks in round rock more times than I can count with various issues or problems or needs, and they have always helped me in such a kind understanding and competent manner. I am Randolph Brooks client for life, but I will never go into this Georgetown office again. I'd rather drive 20 minutes to round rock and get the help that I deserve as a valued client. This employee should be fired.

They have said the facts show I clicked "ALLOW" to approve the transaction on a text they sent me. This is NOT TRUE. I never even saw the texts as I was in deep conversation with "their fraud dept representative". They want me to believe someone could have called me from their number but they won't believe that the same someone could have hacked and taken over my phone! My facts are that I received a text from RBFCU followed by a call from their phone # 210-945-3300 (the same # they alway and continuously call me from). Their rep proceeded to guide me to make transactions geared toward stopping and preventing the continued fraud being attempted on my account. When I immediately tried to call RBFCU fraud dept to verify I was talking to them, my hold time was 58 min/58 sec. They finally called me back 1 1/2 hours later from the same # 210-945-3300 they have always and continue to call me from. These facts lead me to believe it was RBFCU who stole my money! This bank in which I've been a member for 14 years has accused me of being complicit in a crime. I have all my money with these people. I have had car loans, home equity loans, cds, money market accounts, checking and saving accounts. I have excellent credit including a well above average credit score. But they are insinuations that I am a thief. They used to be an excellent company but no more. Please stay far away if you want your money to be safe!

Great question! I filled out an application for Navy Federal credit Union, which has only one branch in Round Rock, TX (suburb of Austin, TX). I was awaiting a call or email indicating I had been approved. Instead, I received a debit card and a bank statement with $0 balance. Well, I received a whole list of ATMs and credit unions where I could make a deposit. Credit union #1 from the list didn't exist. Next, went to Randolph Brooks Credit Union to make my deposit. They told me they do not take deposits for Navy Federal Credit Union. They did not offer to contact Navy Federal Credit Union nor help any other way! Ugggh! This credit union relationship is off to a great start. Nothing like being on a wild goose chase! Terrible customer experience....

=============== PROS:…read more=============== * Staff has always been friendly and helpful to me. * Probably the lowest rate for auto loans around. * Once you have a Savings account, you can open a Money Market account online with just a few clicks, without having to visit a branch. * Coin machine lets you exchange your coins for bills with no commission. * Good system to get alerts by text message, much more useful/complete than Chase. * Website is pretty fast, faster than UFCU. Also doesn't stupidly spawn a new window/tab when you log in like UFCU. =============== CONS: =============== * Can download only the last 5 months of statements! This alone is so egregious I can't rate more than two stars. * Can see only the last 1.5 months of activity online. There's no obvious way to see older transactions, like a "Next page" button or link. There's actually a way to see older transactions, but it's both completely non-intuitive and extremely cumbersome: You click the "Search" button and type in your dates. (forehead slap) And when you do it that way, the site no longer shows you the running balance. * Can't sort transactions chronologically. * No memo field for account transfers. * Not a part of the national shared co-op branch network. * Payments on loans paid from an RBFCU Savings or Money Market account take up to one day to post. At UFCU, they're instant. * Pretty low limit for check deposits by mobile phone. I don't remember the limit, but it's lower than I have for UFCU and Chase. I would mention the amount here, but of course they don't bother to mention what the limit is on the Deposit screen of the app.
