JEN FAY IS AMAZING!! My long-time friend and agent had been helping me sell several properties with the caveat to sell all before end-of-year 2019. Unfortunately, life and schedules got in the way and I changed real estate agents last October. Jen contacted me when the listing popped up and was so personable and persuasive that I gave her the listing immediately. Obviously selling in the fourth quarter is challenging at best and downright impossible at worst. She made great suggestions and did her homework, keeping in touch with me on a regular basis and always prepared with recent sales and showings. After several potential contracts, my condo sold in January! In fact the deal occurred very rapidly. A cash deal that only took 2 weeks from acceptance to close. Jen led me smoothly through the process. What is even more amazing, we have never met face-to-face! She made this process effortless for me. Brava Jen! One small mix-up regarding keys, which was my fault as the seller, but we closed on a Friday and the keys were waiting for the Buyer on Saturday. In fact the building manager bent over backwards to help me make my oversite right. Sometimes I wish Buyer and Seller could contact each other directly. Putting it in context, the unit had been empty for almost a year as it had been under contract for 6 months, a situation which ultimately fell through at the last minute. Closed on a condo today and wanted to review Remax Edge while it's all still fresh. My agent was Robert and I have to say he was really great. During each step, he worked my attorney and another broker. What I didn't know was that he had done some pre-cleaning of the unit I purchased until it came out in the closing today when he dropped off the keys. My interactions with the office staff was equally positive. I had to provide two escrow checks (step one and 2) and in both cases, I was treated well. I liked the fun but professional atmosphere too. It seems like they really try to go out of their way to help clients. I know there's probably a gazillion brokers out their and I can't say I've got a lot of experience in real estate. But I can say working with Robert and the folks at Remax Edge was a really good one. read more

As a newcomer to Chicago, I recently reached out to Angelina Ruiz for her services to help me locate an apartment in Chicago. After we agreed to work together, she was unresponsive and did not respond to emails. I selected a few listings I wanted to view and never heard back. Unfortunately, I would not recommend Angelina as a realtor. I want to be believe in RE/MAX, but this was a very poor experience! read more

As an investor, I talk to and deal with a lot of real estate agents. And I'm sorry to say that most of them flat-out suck. Let me give you a hint: If you hear an agent complaining that they can't make any money in "this market," it ain't the market. Mark Zipperer's office on Grace and Halsted is flourishing, as are those of the select few *good* brokers out there. A veritable child (talking about me here) walking into a real estate office asking to speak with the owner (something I've done quite a few times) can typically tell right away who is open to adapting to changing circumstances to make money and who isn't. Mark sat down with me on the spot and we talked for about 45 minutes about our respective businesses and how they might fit together. Aside from his positive attitude, this guy knows EV-ER-Y-THING about Uptown, Wrigleyville, Lakeview, Edgewater, all those neighborhoods. Trust my professional opinion on this: If you're looking to buy or sell on the North side, go to Mark. And he has dogs in his office if that kind of thing is important to you. read more

(please excuse the grammar issues, as I'm writing this on my iPhone) This is the second time I've had to deal with remax, and the second time I feel like this is the shadiest realestate company in Chicago. The first dealing was a year ago, in my current apartment where an agent told us that our apartment included a parking space, at a near by lot, which was very important to us. We signed the lease, and then the agent got bakto us with some previously unmentioned details. Turns out, the owner didn't own the parking spot, but the agent's assistan was leasing it out, and we couldn't park there from 8am to 8pm and on certain nights where they ha event parking... In which they would call her and she would have to tell us or our car would get towed, because oh yeah, we'd have to illegally tell the parking attendants that I was her boyfriend otherwise they would just cycle it over tithe next person on the waiting list... Needless to say we've spent the year street parking. At the edge location, this year we found an apartment through our own agent, who was showing s a remax property. We gave them our application with a $25 money order because we liked the place so much we ddn't want to waste tie going back to our apartment for a checkbook. After getting the approvals from the agent, the guy that runs the edge location gave us the run around about why we were no longer being considerred een though we clearly already got the okay... Upon further investigation we called about getting our money order back (because they decided we couldn't have it without even running our credit or anything, which by the way, is perfect) I was given three different stories as to why we weren't getting the apartment, everytime we tried to get this money order back. None f these stories have made any sense or consistency... I can only imagine that they simply ddn't want to share the commission with our agent. Super shady. Either way, westill haven't gotten out money order back, the latest story is that they gave it to our agent, even after we told them we would pick it up today or Monday myself... When we went in to pick it up, we were greated by the location manager mark, who was the most condescending such-and-such that I think I've ever met who continuously told us that it wasn't his responsibility to do anything, or to have done anything, and was completly condesending about how we don't own a company like he does, and how he's having a "record year". And swore up and down that he dodge a bullet with us, (clearly we couldn't just be upset about the run around). Either way, I'm pretty convinced that since they never ran my credit and I make well more than enough to avoid the place, and because we never dealt with the remax ourselves only through our agent, we were denied because he wanted to keep all ofthe comission in house. I still have no idea why after doing that he get like he needed to give usthe run around and be a jerk. Edit: 12/22/09 (i don't want to now go back and correct the grammar of the old post, i let it sit as it was, in my iphone fevor, but i will say, that last bit, should be "I make well enough to afford the place") Since posting this review, the "owner" or whomever he is, has decided to email my fiance (who had nothing to do with this post, but was the only one in which he had contact information with i guess), and has basically tried to scare us into removing this post, via legal action, and a lot of misplaced legal jargon, that he clearly does not realize that we understand more than he does. It's not bad enough to be shown such poor business relations, but to retaliate to a review because one does not want to deal with the repercussions of a situation, just makes it worse. It is called cause and effect. If you do not like the outcome of a particular effect, do not be the cause of it. I can only assume that dealing with this company will lead not only to poor customer service, shady behind-the-scenes practices, and childish behaviour, but also a constant, throbbing, and shrill headache that doesn't seem to want to...go...away. I hope this review has been most helpful to any of you looking to buy, as buying a home is usually the biggest investment one gets the opportunity to make in their lifetime, and i hope that all of you have as easy and pleasant of an experience as possible, given how much of a hassle it generally is just in and of itself....without other unnecessary problems and issues making their way out of the wood work. read more

This was my time purchasing a property and my first time using a realtor at all. A family member referred me to Mark and I am so thankful for that! It was a great experience! Mark knew that this my first time in the real estate world, and I feel like he spent a lot of extra time with me explaining the process. And he came with me to my closing to provide moral support (and stayed for awhile because it was heinously long because of my lender). I moved back to Chicago from about 2.5 hours away and my work schedule was not very flexible at all. He was very understanding about this. Because he is so organized and so efficient, we were able to get a lot done in my short visits to the city. We only looked at places in my price range and that fit my needs. Someone else posted on here that Mark knows EVERYTHING about the north side. That is true and even seems like an understatement. He knows about businesses, schools, restaurants that are opening/closing and how that will affect the area. He knows each neighborhood's history. He knows who the aldermans are and projects for different neighborhoods. Mark knew what I was looking for in a neighborhood and offered a lot of helpful advice. And if you need something done (locks changed, floors redone, contractors, electricians, etc) he has a list of recommendations. And I have been pleased with them as well. If I could give Mark and his office 10 stars, I would. I absolutely would recommend him to any friend or family member who needs a realtor. And when I choose to upgrade and get another place in Chicago, I will definitely call Mark. read more

I was referred to Mark Zipperer and his team by, of all things, Facebook. One of my clients in Denver asked her friends in Chicago whom they'd recommend for real estate and Mark's name came up a few times. So, I dropped him a message about my upcoming trip. First, I'm a pain in the ass client. Why? Because I know what I want and I'm not afraid to inundate an agent with listings to research. Secondly, I was a pain in the ass because I was on a time crunch -- in town for 11 days but only available for THREE to actually look at properties. Next, I'm certainly not a big client -- my budget was extremely modest AND I was an FHA buyer, which always adds a layer of real estate-flavored fun to the situation, not to mention a significant limit on buying options. Day one, Mark took me out to see 16 properties. I was exhausted and I can only imagine how HE felt. Day 2, he paired me up with another agent who knew Rogers Park like the back of his hand. John Dietz gave me the guided tour of the area, from farmer's markets to cool little ethnic restaurants. Day 3 -- over a week later -- Mark took me out again and we saw a whopping 3 places. I ended up putting offers in on two of them. I got the second one. WOO HOO! How did the buying process go? With every unit, Mark answered every question I had. He pointed things out that I'd never have noticed and also helped me figure repair and renovation costs on a unit-by-unit basis. And he was honest -- about everything from part of town to whether the asking price was in-line with the market. Mark and John were top notch through the whole process. As an out-of-state buyer with both limited time and modest budget, they made the most of my time and money. To top it off, I got a referral to an amazing attorney along with a great locksmith company (had the locks changed right after closing). So, here's the rub -- if you're going to be a pain in the ass client, at least KNOW that you're a pain in the ass client. Mark's team worked with my lender to get my transaction closed in a land speed record of 24 days (including a federal holida weekend). And sure, I know a lot of that had to do with having a great lender and a responsive listing agent, but I know this all could have gone another way -- and fast. I was seeing apartments with Chicago Apartment Finders for one month with no success. After one week of looking, the agent became lazy and finding me an apartment was no longer his top priority. I found a place on-line by myself and Ramses at ReMax Edge showed me the place. I didn't like it and that was the end of it. But Ramses would send me new apartment listings everyday. And, time after time he would show me apartments without trying to talk me into renting it. In fact, he talked me out of getting apartments because they were either over-priced or overall not a good deal. He was patient and a true pleasure to work with. And, he got me a house warning gift!! Mark truly does have "the Edge". Before this sale, I'd never felt compelled to write a review. I'd like to share my experience. I've owned and lived in three homes over the years so I've worked with several different realtors but this time was different. Remember the housing market peak in 2007? Rather than renting, that's when I happened to buy a condo in Chicago for my college student. My plan was to sell it after graduation. Graduation came, my student launched, and due to the repressed housing market I became a reluctant landlord. This year I sold the unit and walked away with a nice check. When I hired Mark he asked me to put him in contact with my tenant. Right off, he built a positive relationship with her. He met her in person to introduce himself and his associate Rob. He explained the showing/sale process and did the photo shoot. He scheduled the showings directly with her so I wasn't in the middle, for which I was grateful. He kept me in the loop with all communications. He even offered to help my tenant find another rental unit. There's a condo association for the building which required submittal of additional documents to the association and to the buyer's attorney. Mark is very knowledgeable in this area. He guided me and my attorney through the process and deadlines. The buyer's financing was delayed multiple times and still hadn't been approved when closing was just days away. The tenant had moved out on schedule for the sale; I would no longer receive rent payments! Mark stepped up. He contacted both attorneys and helped get things back on track. The buyer's financing got approved and the sale closed on the originally scheduled date. I was impressed with Mark's competence, professionalism, and results. I am completely satisfied with the realtor services that Diana Sanchez of ReMax Edge provided to me in selling my house in Chicago. I live in Minnesota and after meeting her and discussing my goals in selling the house, Diana Sanchez took over and coordinated all of the marketing, negotiations, and eventual selling of the house all the way through the closing of the house (she was at the Closing and I was not). Mark is very knowledgeable about the Buena park area but I would NEVER recommend him!! Why you ask? Well, we listed with him for over 1 1/2 years and our unit did not sell. Fine, I get that the real estate market and economy were not in our favor. So we decided to change our luck and went with another agent (he sold our unit 3 months later). Coincidentally, the same day we cut ties with him "someone" called the city inspector and reported our deck as a dangerous hazard (we had no knowledge of this). Months later an inspector shows up and says their was a complaint about my deck (which is not visible from the public) and the person who called in was myself. Really, I would call in about my own deck? So to Marks childish delight he won! It cost us (and the other units in my building) thousands of dollars to repair our decks. My word of caution....if you use Mark to sell be VERY VERY careful to stay with him otherwise he will stoop to a teenage mentality and try to harm the future sale of your property. I know this company focuses on mainly buying and selling. They should not claim to be experts in rental property. Their office is a block From my Condo so I asked for help in finding a renter, thinking they knew the building and neighborhood well. First, they listed the unit as "No pets" which wasn't true and is a huge turnoff in Lakeview. I caught it and they fixed it but made no apology. I could have missed several interested renters, especially since everyone that subsequently saw the unit had a dog. Then, after managing to show the unit only twice in about a month, Cathy sent me some listings from other units in the same building that where much less, to convince me to lower the rent. However those units were in far inferior condition with none of the upgrades I had, and one was completely trashed in the pictures. She refused to acknowledge the differences and insisted that I either lower the price to compare with these units or take my place off the market and re-paint to her color preferences. She flat out stated "it won't rent in it's current condition" even though it was fully upgraded and had a current renter that loved the place but was moving out of town. So I terminated the agreement and went with Apartments in Chicago, Inc. Who had 4 showings in 5 days and had it rented in 6 days, at the original price with no reductions needed. To a couple with a dog, who loved the unit and its "current condition." I can't speak for their regular buying and selling services but I wouldn't use them for rental services. I kept hearing about her 14 years of experience, but she really missed the mark on this one. read more
