For best protection, and seeing as how several have tried to patch, he recommended a torch down of a new layer. We've only had a little bit of rain since he did that (super punctual early bird for 2 days) but I have not seen any additional leaks so far. While he was up there, he noticed that our skylight flashing was also compromised (which we already knew from home inspections but most roofers said it was still ok). But I'd rather not have the anxiety of that hanging over my head and since he was reasonable and efficient (most roofers have months long waits), I would wanted him to do the repair there too. The repair must have been more complicated than he thought (he said the previous work was 'weird') because he spent a half day up there, but I'm glad he took his time to do it right. The peace of mind since then has been invaluable as I was losing sleep and my temper over each and every rain. Anyway, in the end, due to the nature of the crappy bitumen from our old flat roof, there were bits everywhere in our yard, but I honestly expected that no matter who was working on it. His 1. This morning, Martin called as promised and came by within 30 minutes. He climbed up to the roof and found the 8 cracked tiles that were broken during the termite tenting we did several months ago. Within an hour Martin had gone to supply depot, picked up the replacement tiles and repaired as he promised. And the cost was very reasonable, given the quick response. I had been making calls to multiple roofers in the area and was getting replies that they were all booked out thru October and November. Martin exceeded my expectations and my family and I can go into the next rainy season feeling better about the potential for leaks.

So we decided it would be cost-effective to put on a new concrete tile roof since the old roof shed shingles every time it rained. Went down to my local supermarket for a paper and ran into a friend. They were leaving for up north the next morning! I almost missed her. So I asked her, did she know a good roofer (by then I had cold-called 4-5 and either got a message saying "we are not taking any business on now", or left a message and never received a call back. My friend said, "Oh, call Reid at Turner Roofing! His (family-owned) company has just finished putting a new roof on our house, and did a wonderful job." I called as soon as I got home, saying I had been referred, and Reid was very pleasant. Came right over with a book of tile possibilities, and within a few days we had an estimate and made a deposit. When the crew arrived, the foreman said to me, "You know, I think I helped put on this shingle roof almost 30 years ago!". For a few days it was noisy while they took off the old cedar shakes. Then the new tiles went on. WOW! the house looks new. When it rains, we gloat. We are snug and warm and Turner Roofing is now working on my neighbors' house. Adding a new roof was a great investment.
