A cute little bookstore that instantly took me back to my youth, with shelves packed full of books, magazines, and all sorts of unexpected finds. My first visit was today after we left the Tulip Time Festival, and with the entire downtown area absolutely bustling, stumbling across this shop felt like discovering a quiet little retreat in the middle of the chaos. I wasn't always certain about the pricing or exactly where some of the different genres and subjects were tucked away throughout the store, but honestly, that became part of the charm. There's something nostalgic about wandering through aisles, scanning shelves, and unexpectedly finding something interesting you didn't even know you were looking for. One thing I especially appreciated was the atmosphere created by the staff. The sales team was friendly and welcoming without hovering or making the experience feel uncomfortable in any way. They greeted us warmly, then simply allowed us the freedom to explore at our own pace. No one trailed behind us from aisle to aisle, no one pressured us into buying anything, and there was never that awkward feeling that you were being watched while trying to quietly enjoy the books that caught your interest. Instead, it felt relaxed and genuine -- the kind of bookstore experience where you can lose yourself for a while flipping through pages, rediscovering old interests, and taking your time deciding what deserves a closer look. This is bookstore was so darned charming and cozy during our fall morning visit. We were especially impressed by the selection of children's books, and found ourselves wanting to buy many more than we probably needed. Located in the downtown Holland shopping district, it's an ideal stop between coffee and meals. We were also super impressed by their selection of magazines for all audiences- including kids. I loved this little local bookstore! They have a huge selection of magazines and cookbooks, which are my favorite things to browse at bookstores. They had the most magazines I think I've ever seen at a bookstore, with titles in all kinds of interest areas, including many I'd never seen before and some from other countries, which was cool. The inventory of this shop overall is pretty huge for a small store, which was fun to see. The store itself is a bit crowded as there is a lot jam packed in there, but it was clean and bright. I would definitely come here a lot if I lived in the area, to browse and buy gifts for myself and others. They had sanitizer available and masks required during COVID when we visited back in winter 2020. read more

So extremely pleasant! Very friendly staff! It is so nice to visit a welcoming bookstore. It was like stepping back 20 years in time to when bookstores were a place you not only looked for books and magazines, but also a bit of inspiration. Downtown Holland during the holiday season seems straight out of a scene from "Its a Wonderful Life" with its the snowy streets and charming storefronts. Of course the scene wouldn't be complete without a bookstore! Reader's World is a relatively small space, but it does have a wide range of books for all interests, including the latest bestsellers and local books about Michigan. While browsing, I was able to find my favorite recipe magazine which I usually can only find at whole foods! Definitely a great stop in Holland! read more

We were visiting from the other side of the state and I was very excited to find a independently owned bookstore. I browsed and ended up picking up several books. When I went and stood near the register to check out, the lady running the register seemed very cold and aloof. I tried to start a conversation about how we don't have these kind of bookstores on the east side of the state, but she completely ignored me. She seemed more intent on speaking to employees and watching a young man in the aisle instead of being courteous to a customer laying out $60 for books. There was no "thanks for coming in" or any type of professionalism at all. I'll never go back to Readers World. I don't expect anyone to bow down or anything, but as least pretend to be friendly! Amazon is easier, cheaper and has better customer service. read more

Cute bookstore that offers a lot for it's size. My mom and I popped in looking for a new fiction release for her book club and the employee found it right away. I think her name was Audrey Anne, she was so helpful and kind. We enjoyed talking to her about Michelle Obama and where we should eat dinner. Two things that make me very happy. They offer a book club discount which is genius. If you need something ordered, they can do that too. Honestly the cost wasn't much higher than Amazon, so support local when you can! read more

I always had great feelings about this place, until today. Having a locally-owned downtown book store with a solid selection and huge newsstand in a city the size of Holland is a real boon, especially these days. The local history selection is fantastic. I've been going here since I was a kid. It has always felt like a sort of progressive oasis of literary and political freedom in a fake-smile gift-shop zone... However, doing some last-minute holiday shopping today, I was pretty shocked overhearing the clerk (not sure if it is the owner) loudly conversing with another customer something apparently (relievedly) about how "the black guy is gone" (a neighbor?), followed by inquiries about tonight's church service, the new pastor, and the like. Thanks for reinforcing every negative stereotype outsiders have about my hometown, ladies. I thought a different worldview was behind this store, but I am less than sure now. Maybe it was just one clerk, so I won't write this business off forever, but I was really put-off and shocked as a customer to be subjected to gossipy possibly racist church ladies... I guess because I looked "like them" they felt comfortable. read more

Not huge inside, but they will order practically ANYTHING for you, even if they have to research and track it down. PLUS** if you order from them you get a discount! It's often cheaper than ordering online. They carry an interesting selection of books and a massive selection of magazines, one of the biggest we've seen around. This shop is a must stop for us when visiting the Holland/Saugatuck/Douglas area. We love the selection of periodicals, which must exceed 150 different titles including British publications. We always find interesting and different books for our grandchildren, and always leave with bags full of books, buttons, magazines and such. read more

I was disappointed when on 7-8-2015 I made a special trip to get a newspaper. The lady was standing by the door, not doing anything, and abruptly said "We are not open until 9:30 am". It was 9:15 - 9:20 am, all I wanted was a newspaper, for which I had with exact change, but she turned and walked away. My opinion now is that Readers World in Holland Michigan does not display business courtesy and does not really want to establish a clientele. read more

Charming book store located on a corner in Holland's shopping district. Parking was even fairly easy during the summer, when tourist traffic runs high. Great selection - local history section is especially wonderful. I asked the lady who worked there for advice about finding works by local authors and she practically ran laps around the store rattling off a litany of names - and she was familiar with each author, who they are, where in Michigan they reside, what they write about. While I was walking around when I first arrived, I heard her on the phone making several phone calls trying to track down a title for a customer. I'll definitely be going back! :) read more

Readers world has a soft place in my heart, it will forever be my book store.... The owner is a sweet person as are the employees. I love the non-chain store aspect and the magazine selection is always evolving. I purposely avoid subscriptions knowing there is a good chance of finding something new and original (first issue) during my next RW adventure.
