We have been here before and it was OK, this time around me and my son decided to try the happy hour menu. I had fish and chips and well, all I can say is getting frozen bagged glorified fish sticks was disappointing. Now in defense of the club, it was only $11 but seriously, if your a serious eating establishment why would you serve this? My son had the RCC smash burger which was actually pretty good. The service was fine, the bar was mostly empty, which is where we sat. It's a nice bar tbh. Perhaps it's sparsely populated on a Friday night for a reason? It's close and convenient so I'll probably come back, hopefully it will be a better experience. I won't be ordering fish and chips if I do come back. read more

We made Easter Brunch reservations here for our family, and at $69 per person (including tax and gratuity), we were expecting a much higher quality experience. Unfortunately, the buffet was very disappointing. The scrambled eggs were overcooked and hard, the waffles were dry, the ham was also dry, and the bacon was cold. The pre-sliced turkey was probably the best item available, but overall, the food quality just didn't match the price point. For what this cost, we were especially surprised there wasn't even a carving station. The salad appeared to be a basic bagged mix, and the pastry selection was extremely limited (only two options), and didn't taste fresh. Desserts were also underwhelming--bite-sized brownies and mini cheesecakes that seemed store-bought and weren't quite the right texture--like they'd been frozen too long. On a positive note, the service was good--the staff was attentive and pleasant. Overall, this brunch felt overpriced for the quality and selection offered. We won't be returning, and if asked, I won't recommend it. read more

This was the second time I ate at the Reading Country Club. I was undecided whether to give it 4 or 5 stars. I started at 4 and then gave it 5 since I really couldn't find anything wrong with it. The food is very good and so is the wine ;-) Two for Tuesday is every week. For $25 you get 2 entrees, a salad, vegetable and dessert. You have to pick from a limited menu for the special or if you don't want that you can just order from the regular menu. It wasn't very crowded then the skies opened up and all the golfers came in at the same time for their drinks. Nice bar area too. Servers were very efficient and cute by the way. I would definitely return. The restaurant portion is now run by Chef Allen's and they have pretty good food. read more

We came for the breakfast brunch buffet to celebrate our anniversary. They stated that brunch buffet is no more but they have breakfast menu. The patio area was nice and relaxing as there was a light warm breeze. I ordered the French toast (which came with home fries that I was unaware of) I ordered a spinach omelet ( came with home fries, English muffin and fruit) Hubby ordered omelet (came with home fries and English muffin) There was so much carbs on the table and such a waste. The French toast was 6 pieces of brioche toast. I would have been happy with 3-4 pieces. One thing we both noticed is that the cook has no idea how to fold and or flip an omelet. It was basically a scramble. I gave them a shot because I didn't want to fight my husband on his choice. I specifically did not even consider this venue for our wedding because of VIVA! They are a joke and have no concept of food quality. They are great at heat and serve and does not do scratch made food. A country club should take pride in a chef who cranks out creative, innovative and fresh food for casual diners and special events. Just think how much business your venue lose just because folks don't want VIVA's heat and serve foods. read more

The review is for the golf course only. Reading CC was obviously an exclusive private club earlier in it's life. The club house, bar and locker room are all reminiscent of old money and make for an impressive display. The course is beautifully laid out and very challenging. It is also very well maintained. The cost is ridiculously cheap for how nice the course is. You can get tee times on golfnow.com for under $25 in the late morning on weekends. We discovered it by accident looking for somewhere to play late last summer on short notice. After playing it once we played there 4 more times in fall. The only thing keeping Reading from being constantly packed with golfers is it's distance from Philadelphia. It is all the way out 422, where it changes from a highway to a 4 lane road. We're already planning on going back in the spring, and I'm sure we'll be there multiple times this coming season. read more

A longtime favorite of many Berkscountians, the Reading Country club is a gem in the rough, literally. Now surrounded by a major highway and developing neighborhoods, the country club has held strong through the build up. This gem was even saved by Exeter Township from being turned into a neighborhood. Although not a common dinner outing, they do have spectacular food, both in the bar and fine dining. My family has been going to the country club for a few years now for our annual holiday brunch reunion. They offer our group a great rate, as well as, a selection of both breakfast and lunch foods. Generally their banquet events are very well kept, and we also enjoy the Mother's Day brunch that they put together in the main banquet hall. Do be sure to register ahead for these events as they fill up quickly. The golf course, although not the greatest course you'll ever play, is still great for a pickup game. I know that both my dad and my brother enjoy meeting up with friends at the course for either driving practice or a round of golf. Since they are now owned by the township, they do offer discounted rates for residents within the area. The Reading Country Club is a well known icon of the area, and remains so with a well kept exterior and interior facade. Do not let the location deter you from what you might find inside. read more

Have been dining here for a long time because it is close. Since the management change and now Chef Alan's running the restaurant it has gone downhill terribly. The place is virtually empty on any weeknight or sat night. I know this because I still golf regularly but go elsewhere for good food. My last 2 visits were experiences that I will not forget. Steaks were tough and over cooked and sea food caused my spouse to become sick. It seems like cuts were made to both the food quality and portions just to keep the bottom line in the black. Don't they understand that good meals will keep people coming back even if prices are increased. It only takes a couple of bad meals for the word to get around locally and people to stop visiting and that has happened here sadly. Staff seems unhappy because they can't make a living with this level of business. This place is a gem in the rough which the Township, who owns the place, just doesn't get. There is no where else in the county that can match the atmosphere and ambiance of this place. The possibilities are amazing if only they could get someone that knew how to put out great food. Went there yesterday for the second time since Viva took over. Service was slow again. Food was very mediocre. Onion soup was very salty and the cheese was melted on the outside of the cup. Burger was overcooked. The Flatbread with chicken had 6 pieces of chicken and was overcooked along with the rubbery cheese. This used to be a nice place with good food for the area. They need a wake up call here or their renovations will have been ill spent. Don't know who is managing but they ought to look at the food prior to it being served to their customers. read more

Negatives: Not private anymore. Bartender (the older slightly hispanic looking one) literally makes the worst drinks in the entire united states. Bloody marys taste like a period and any other mixed drink tastes like watered down swamp juice. It's a miracle he can even pour a beer. I over heard him saying racial comments too, not something I'm into while eating brunch. I don't even want to get into his d*ck attitude. If you're having a wedding, hire your own bartender. This review is for Viva at RCC. We are big fans of the Viva Bistro in Wyomissing and were happy to see they had taken over the food service at RCC since there is a dearth of good restaurants in Exeter Township. The restaurant itself looks beautiful. However, after being open several weeks they absolutely still need time to work out the kinks. The food was mediocre, service was very slow and we were never checked on after our entrees arrived. My cup of French Onion Soup was basically just beef broth with a blob of cheese melted on top and the accompanying focaccia bread was cold and stale. The salmon entree was bland and the rice pilaf tasted sour. My father did enjoy their take on chicken pot pie with the traditional filling covered by a large square of puff pastry. Our meal ended badly though when it took almost 20 minutes for our check to be rung out. Hoping Viva can get their act together here quickly. read more

This review is for the golf course only. I played Reading Country Club on 8/29/2014 with a tee time of 2:06 pm. As mentioned in other reviews, this course used to be private and was potentially going to be turned into another housing development off of Rt 422 before the local township stepped in. Thankfully, this beautiful course was saved from the bulldozers. The course is very easy to get to with the entrance sitting on Rt 422. We paid $35 each for the round which is great for a holiday weekend. Once we teed off, we noticed that the course was in excellent condition as it historically is. From your first tee shot on the dog leg par 4 first hole, you become very aware that accuracy not power is the key to a low round at RCC especially on shots into greens that are generally well-protected. The par 5 5th hole is generally a 3 shot hole that always seems to bite me as it has a stream that crosses the fairway twice before requiring an accurate approach shot. It is on the tee box of the par 3 6th hole that you realize the the course has a lot more hills than you would have guessed from the parking lot. The course may appear to be short from glancing at the scorecard but it definitely penalizes you for wayward shots. Overall, this is a good course in the Berks County area that I will be playing again in the future. read more

Went to a Catered Affair there last weekend and the food was wonderful. It was served buffet style (by choice) and everything was hot, fresh and tasty - three things that never happen at a buffet. My husband and I went to the party for the Super Bowl. The food was really poor. Cold food on the buffet, little selection, was not as good as it sounded on the advertising. Also, called a few times regarding events and all you ever get is the auto attendant telling you who you called - I know who I had called. Wow. Just wow. We found RCC in 2013 when we moved to Eastern PA. We really enjoyed the course. Since then, RCC's staff attitude has gone from good to mediocre to bad to absolutely appalling. At this point, forget customer service- there's an utter lack of common courtesy. If you really want to be treated like crap- as in being accused of theft- then by all means RCC is your place. Management, you have to be utterly and completely absent to allow this culture to develop in your organization- and you know it. read more

When Viva first opened at the Reading Country Club, I was impressed with the service, the atmosphere, the food and the dinner specials! I was so impressed that I brought several groups to enjoy what I found in Viva. Recently, I brought another group of friends for dinner and was so disappointed in the food, the service, and the prices. The dinner specials are no longer available. The music playing was some sort of heavy bass rap. The bread was hard as a rock and we had to ask for fresh bread. The food was mediocre at best. I guess it is the old bait and switch....build up a following and then surprise them with the lack of service, food and prices. My favorite place to eat has now become a place I will not go back to. read more

The golf course is in good shape, however viva needs to get its act together with their on course food service. Why did they shut down the snack bar at the turn? Why are you unable to get a drink before 11, and then are only able to get a drink if you run inside to the bar to get beer? It slows the pace of play and could be fixed as simply as using the abandoned snack shop or having a drink cart on the course. I like to start my round with a Bloody Mary, and that's not possible unless your tee time starts after noon. read more

I went to a wedding here this year, and the best thing that this the RCC has is its beauty. The club itself is magnificent. It looks like an old castle, and the tulips out front were beautiful for the time of year. Pictures of any event here will be stunning. There are plenty of spaces for group shots, and whether you get married inside or out, the spaces are lovely. The food and service was average. The buffet is very large and can accommodate large parties.There was meat and vegetables, but also spring rolls and stir fry, so there was variety, but it wasn't the most cohesive of menus. My fiance played the golf course and said it was amazing. We also got a chance to sit in the downstairs bar for appetizers and drinks, and the food downstairs is way superior to the catered food served upstairs. My friends had a very beautiful wedding here, and I recommend this venue for large parties, maybe 150-250 people. The couple stated that planning was easy with this venue, however, dates are limited, so it's best to reserve a spot early, or take what you can get. There is a huge parking lot, and beautiful grand staircase. Very fun and beautiful venue! read more

Viva did a nice job in redecorating the old RCC pub. We recently had our company Xmas gathering there. The personnel helping us really went out of their way to accommodate our needs. There was plenty of food and the Lasagna was great! I will look forward to dining there on a personal level in the near future. read more

This review is specifically for the banquet side of their business. I attended a banquet there on 11/14/17 and was one of the last 20 people in the food line (of the 90 in attendance) and they ran out of lasagna and tilapia, as well as green beans. There were still noodles in a mushroom sauce and mashed potatoes remaining, but that's it...no entrees! When the staff, who appeared to be the lead staff person, was asked about additional food for the remaining 20 people the reply was that there was no more food coming out and that the people at the beginning of the line had taken more than the counted small piece of lasagna & tilapia...hence the allotted food had been consumed. This was a $35/pp meal! It was a buffet line! Very poor planning on their part. Very poor customer service. (Note: After the person responsible for booking the banquet spoke up, the facility did come up with about nine small pieces of tilapia to share amongst the remaining guests. Which was long after people were finished eating their main course). read more
