This is the local garden store in our neighborhood. We usually stop in a few times a year for gardening needs. We were here yesterday to purchase some black mulch for our garden. We waited until Monday to go because the weekends are very busy, with long lines and chaotic parking - and that was pre-pandemic & pre-social distancing guidelines. It's not very big but we did notice that they have made some improvements recently and it looks like there is more work in progress. Hopefully that will extend into the inside also. It's also not very organized and it's pretty dirty. But we usually can find what we need and it's conveniently located. It's not usually the best prices but the convenience offsets the higher prices. I purchased my Hostas here about 6-7 years ago and they are doing well. All of the employees have always been friendly. read more

PLEASE STOP PURCHASING NUTS FROM THIS STORE. The mixed nuts and peanuts that they sell hear are raw and salted. Raw peanuts get moldy and that mold is toxic to squirrels. Salted nuts of any kind should NEVER be fed to wildlife - PERIOD! The owner advertises the nuts/peanuts as food for wildlife. However, that is a lie! Nuts for wildlife are always roasted and unsalted. What you are actually purchasing at this store is expired human trail mix and It is toxic to squirrels, birds and any other critter that should wonder into your yard. SHAME ON READING FEED AND GARDEN for misleading kind and generous people who are willing to spend money to help wildlife by lying and taking advantage of them. Do NOT say you don't do that. You know you do or you would actually tell your customers what they are REALLY buying and you would also them that they are KILLING the animals they believe they are helping by purchasing the CRAP you choose to sell. This business is under new ownership as of January 2021 and the changes made include not requiring employees to wear masks even though they have posted signs mandating exactly that and they do require it of their customers. The employees here are a split between young and uninformed and old and cranky. Don't try to get help or questions answered, they're not interested in helping. Was actually told by one of the young workers that they're "annoyed by people interrupting [their] watering" to ask where to find a product. Going here used to be a laid-back and money-saving experience, and now it has sadly turned the corner to being just poorly managed, run-down, dirty--spend a few more bucks eslewhere and don't support such abysmal practices. read more

I always loved Reading Feed. Every year the family and I would go there for flowers and plants. My daughter, granddaughter, and I went down Friday. It was jam packed with people. The checkout lane was very, very long, but like usual, there was a girl writing down what you had so the purchasing process went fairly quickly. My bill was over $120. I purchased one mandevilla for $18.99. I did not check my receipt before leaving. Upon arriving home I began looking my receipt over. They charged me for 2 mandevilla I called, but was told since I left the premises they would do nothing about it. I do not chest or lie and expect honesty from others. However, it is not good business practice to not give credits to valued customers. I have always recommended them to others, but will no longer do so. I doubt I will return read more

Very very disappointed with reading feed the quality has went down to zero, the flowers i have gotten for years and years, they don't have near what they used too, no pond plants out of too soil.. mandavilles i have gotten every year in middle of April this year they still don't even have them.. the ordering and the care of the plants is not good. I visited here the other day and I accidentally dropped a candle. A man in a red hat that worked there (apparently the owner) came around the corner and just stared at me. He gave the dirtiest look. He finally walked over and asked if anyone was cut. He continued to just look at me. So I asked if he wanted to take the candle. He then proceeded to snatch it out of my hands and aggressively throw it into a trash can all while saying "not like I can sell it anymore." After all of that attitude I still went to check out and offered to pay for it. I hope no one else encounters this man on his bad days. Also prices for something's there are outrageous! read more

I asked for two 50-lb bags of black oil sunflower seeds - like I bought for years. They sold me 2 bags, but when they were loaded, it was a new brand. When I unloaded them at home, they felt light. Though the bag said 50 lb. in large print, a small tag on the bag said 40 lb. When I called, they said "it comes from the company the way it comes" - they just sell it. I said they should have told me it was 40, not 50 lb. They said they guess they forgot. The bag would not hold 50 lb. A tag to correct the weight should cover the 50 lb proclamation. They should have the correct weight and price posted and they should make clear what they are selling when someone asks for a specific item. I have spent $100s on birds several times a winter for the past several years and in terms of birds, the new management has decided against a quality product. Suet cakes have no suet - just filler and they now have only cheap plastic feeders. Prices have increased dramatically. I had already given up on millet and safflower seed. As noted by another reviewer, they nuts are often not palatable for birds - some contain candy and salt. I will explore other options. read more

Ordered and paid for 2 yards of mulch and 5 bales of pine straw on Tuesday to be delivered two days later.. At 4pm on the day it was due, I called to check on the delivery and was told they did not have the pine straw nor the mulch. I asked when I would get it and was told by the owner he didn't know about the pine straw because they get it from FL. Getting a new supply of mulch tonight, but needed to charge me a delivery fee, since now my order no longer met their free delivery requirements. I asked, "Out of curiosity, would you have called me, had I not called you?" The reply, "No, we only call when your order is being delivered." Wow. Terrible customer service!!! Bought two unlabeled plants that apparently sleep during prime daylite. Did not know that when purchased. Took back to return and they would not take back because although in original container the hanger was not present, which they have plenty of from their many dying plants. Being an avid bird feeder, I was happy to find this store for my seed needs. You can buy in bulk and I figured out that I was saving 50% of what I paying at another store. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO READING FEED AND GARDEN! Almost all of the 41 lavender plants I bought died. Reading Feed and Garden does have a no return policy on plants. Although I spoke with a lady who was working outside and she said there was an issue with the lavender and that they were having trouble keeping it alive. She told me that there must have been an issue with disease on the vendor side. She also told me that I could bring back my plants for a store credit or exchange. When I brought my plants in today for a store credit Reading Feed and Garden said that they would not issue any store credit even though I told them I spoke to someone there regarding the issue. I was very disappointed on how Reading Feed and Garden handled the issue. I have been buying plants from them for over 10 years and will never go back. read more

I have been a customer for many years, but it only takes one incident to lose a customer's business. I had a return of 2 plants, bought 2 weeks apart, with an apparent fungal disease. The plant begins to wilt on only one side, and gradually continues to the rest of the plant until it dies. I was informed, rather rudely, that they do not offer store credit or exchanges, unless the plant is in the same condition in which it was purchased. They do not guarantee their plants. I was also told that they do not need my business by the rude cashier. Noted, you will not have my business, or my recommendation in the future. read more

I used to love this place, but they seemed to have raised their prices on plants and I have not had much luck with some of the plants I've purchased here. We purchased soil, compost, etc last summer and the check out process was confusing and they seemed to charge what they felt like. Parking can be an issue - it's a small parking lot and hard to get in and out of. read more

I love going to reading feed and Garden. I'm there every week and their prices are so good. I've always had really good experiences there but today a girl with blondish hair and a ponytail and glasses that was operating the equipment gave me a dirty look when I pulled up. She said something under her breath and I asked her if I was parked too close to the equipment. She ignored me completely. After I had walked away, I heard her say... "I was talking to you b****. I came back to her and I said if I'm parked too close all you need to do is tell me and I would move, instead of you saying mean things under your breath. She completely ignored me again. I told the girl at the checkout about what happened when I came in, and she did sincerely apologize. I just think it is important that the owners know that their customers are being mistreated by this person. I'm sorry about the one star I do plan to come back and I will give good feedback the next time I have a good experience. read more

The store is filthy inside & they sell out of date dog food/treats. Awful customer service. They sell bird food in bags that you have no way of seeing what it is really like, so it is a surprise when you get home & open it. The "no waste bird feed" does not list Milo as an ingredient, but it had a lot of Milo in it. Since it is open, they wouldn't take it back or do anything to help! Shame on them. read more

You get what you pay for here. Decent plants most of the time. Pricing never very clear because things are disorganized especially as the season goes on. It is a fair amount of high schoolers trying hard but who don't know much about the plants or prices. I continue to go there for the prices when I know what I want but love AJ Rahns when I have questions or want a more organized shopping experience. Bought some bushes here May 2014 and they died within 6-8 months. One died before winter the other on just now totally, and partially over winter. Unlike other bush vendors they do not warrant them. Most nurseries and big box stores and Costco have a one year warranty. I took the dead bushes in today and was told nyet. Even more they do not furnish planting instructions - they were "pencil neck" hollies. Buyer beware. The big fella that I dealt with had zero personality. read more

Fairly good variety of plants and bushes but you have to pick and choose as there are quite a few unhealthy plants mixed in. Most of the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, except Brad (the boss or owner) who is rude and unfriendly. The worst feature of the store is the parking, which is very limited and makes entering and exiting the lot a nightmare. read more

Good product selection and good prices in general, but the owner has a bad attitude - not exactly a customer-oriented guy. I had a problem with a product. One employee said bring it back and I could use the credit toward a new purchase even if I didn't have a receipt. When I tried to do that, "not so", says the boss, and he points to some tacky little curled up piece of paper on a board hanging up on a wall behind the cash register. He had to uncurl it so it was readable. I mentioned that I had been told otherwise by one of his employees, but that just made him angry and he walked away. A very nasty attitude over $10 worth of birdseed. I also bought a bag of shelled corn a while back that contained rabbit droppings and other foreign matter.
