I have been visiting the Real African Art gallery since first hearing about it shortly after opening. I have purchased several pieces from there for my entertainment center and have been eyeing a beautiful Lion painting for sometime. I visited this evening, had an enjoyable conversation with Cal as usual, and finally decided to purchase the portrait, immediately hanging it on my accent wall once home. I LOVE IT and my visit to the Real African Art gallery! Please visit and sure your support if in or visiting Charlotte.

Stumbled upon this place on accident and I was glad that I was able to stop by. This is a very large and spacious location that has various sculptures and paintings from various countries in Africa. The prices are visible on the products. The staff are nice and knowledgeable. The store is very open and welcoming. They are able to host events. There is plenty of parking in the shared parking lot. I definitely will return and I recommend. I hope that you find some great items.

We were in the area to eat at a restaurant and noticed this unique art gallery! It was free to enter and the pieces are breathtaking. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. You can also purchase the art! The art is very affordable!

I purchased a very expensive painting from them and l still haven't received it due to their inexperience! Firstly, their very young employee Emma took it upon herself to send the painting via UPS Saturday delivery! She never once asked me if this was okay and the shipping fees were absolutely astronomical! I use a business address for shipping and Saturday delivery isn't even possible! ALWAYS CHECK WITH THE CUSTOMER FIRST BEFORE MAKING SUCH BIG DECISIONS! I requested a refund for the shipping charges, but Emma refused! Young Emma kept promising me that she had followed up with UPS to reschedule delivery, but sadly, l had to keep following up with her as she never followed up with me directly! I kept tracking the package and there were even more hiccups! The package was never placed on the delivery truck for the supposed rescheduled delivery of yesterday. Today l wait and wait, At 4:37 p.m. l tracked the package again only to find that the wrong address is on the shipping label! Where is my painting? I will never know and will file a dispute with my cc company. Just a warning to please avoid SOCO at all costs for anything of value!

I thought the art was really interesting and some of the pieces I would actually put in my home. Not all of them, but there were some nice ones. It's a lovely space and they have good art. The security guard had me wait in the lobby while he went in to the gallery to turn the lights on. I got the impression that there wasn't a whole lot going on here. It's a good thing that it's free, because 30 minutes of looking at pictures wouldn't have been worth much. And even at 30 minutes, I was still moving pretty slow. When I visited, the exhibit was "Streetwise", a collection of pictures of America's troubled 60's. Capturing images of not just our troubled times, including Boston's "Combat Zone" and close-ups of the Black Panthers, there were also shots of just regular people and places. All in black and white, which gave it a feel of being very like a documentary. Pictures of the pictures are not permitted, but I took that as meaning not taking a picture of the individual pictures. Instead, my wide shot of the gallery doesn't give away the detail but helps you see what you're going to see there. I might come back for the next exhibit, but I think this is a "See it once" kind of thing.

I was so happy I made it out to see what it was all about since I live so close by. Great intimate space, the artist were so insightful and the crowd genuinely appreciated the artist panel and the photography. It was very well curated. Great space, seasoned artists. Well done.
