Came to the Museum for Father's Day since entrance for Dads was free today. Was excellent to see the Caravaggio special exhibit, so my fee was a bit higher $25. But my college age son got a student rate and my husband was free. Nice perk, they also do this on Mother's Day, in case you didn't know for next year. I didn't take too many photos of the artwork. The special exhibit is quite large and there is a lot to see. There are two floors full of different types of art and sculptures. Really has so much to see here. I love where the Mint is located, too. Across the street is a green space with a few restaurants and a beautiful church that we visited while waiting for the museum to open at 1pm. Sunday. The entrance fee is good for two consecutive days so if you are staying close by, go back and walk through again. Lots to see. There is also a restaurant attached to the building that was very busy. It's been 3 years since my last visit so Donna & I went on a Saturday morning to check out the Baroque art exhibit. It was good with lots of interesting works by various artists. I would say this is a must-see if you're going to go to museums here in Charlotte. I love the fact that it had different types of art to view. It had something for everybody, even had a lighting exhibit, and I'm all about the lighting. We spent a good two hours here. It's in the middle of the city, so you can go to restaurants and shops when you're done or before. It was a $18 entrance fee for me, and they offered a senior discount as well for anyone 65 and older. read more

Extremely nice museum in Charlotte. They had an exhibit of local art from high school students that made me question why I made life choices because it was so good...lol. Recently, I attended an incredible event at the Mint called: Mint to Be. It was essentially a fashion show featuring several local artists, but there was also a special exhibit connected to the show and it was AMAZING!!!!! We also had access to the rest of the exhibits and it was just so fun to peruse and view the art but also get this really cool experience of a fashion show. So many guests were dressed to the 9's as well. So, every time you saw someone really dressed up or dressed well it was such a treat!!! I always loved this museum but to see it through the lens of this really well done event was just incredible!!! read more

Very cool place!!! I have heard great things about the Mint. I got to check it out today and it was awesome. I haven't been to many museums in CLT Yet so I'm glad I got started with this one. There were 2.5 floors to walk through and it took about 90mins total. I really enjoyed all of the rooms - see pictures for highlights. Hard to pick just one favorite but contenders include the human flower figure and the glass shard world map! For $15, not a bad way to spend a rainy day afternoon. On Wednesday evenings admission is free 5-9pm. They validate parking in the garage and street spots are free on Sundays. I would definitely come back just to peruse things again and a little more slowly. I'm an artist and always feel at home around arts & cultural events. During our quick trip to Charlotte, we decided to pop in The Mint Museum to kill some time. This was not a planned visit, and I was thrilled that we stumble upon the Annie Leibovitz exhibit. I LOVE a good discussion on art, and we had a great time analyzing the photos which sparked some great conversations. We also got to see the de la Torre Brothers exhibit which featured interesting and beautifully vibrant glass and mixed-media sculptures that spoke to identity, religion, politics, and pop culture. The museum itself was impeccable, very clean and nicely laid out, we were able to wonder through, take in all and enjoy each other's company. And let's not forget the staff, they were very kind and helpful. The Mint Museum is worth a visit if you are looking for something to do while you're in Charlotte. My husband and I recently visited Mint Museum through Bank of America's "Museums on Us" program, offering free museum visits at select locations on the first weekend of every month. We've lived in the CLT area for many years, but have never been to Mint. If you like art, this museum has a lot of interesting works, many that rotate over time. They have many collections over three levels, including American art, craft and design, fashion, modern and contemporary art, European art, and much more. Just FYI - the top level was all art from local students. They even had several famous paintings on our visit, including Andy Warhol's Marilyn (on loan), so well as Henri's My Friend Brien. Some of the artwork was visually stunning. Art appreciation is very subjective, but you'll likely find something of interest while wandering through their exhibits. We both enjoyed our visit, and definitely recommend it for something fun to do on a weekend. read more

The Mint is a lovely museum located in Uptown Charlotte. This is my 2nd visit here since moving to NC, each time I find something more interesting. This visit, I came specifically to see the Southern Modern exhibit and also to revisit a few other exhibits. I love it here. Every Wednesday night is free from 6pm-9pm. Come solo, with a date, family or a friend...just come. The gift shop on the main level is like another museum! Amazing finds, members can save a few $$$ and also get 10% off at Mariposa restaurant located next door to the Mint. Enjoy! read more

I have to admit I didn't realize the museum had such a nice gift store. I was looking for a specific brand of gift wrap and the merchant website listed the Mint as one of their retailers. The store is well stocked and appears to sell items from various brands, which is nice. They didn't have the gift wrap I was looking for, but they did have gift wrap and I found something pretty. What turned me all the way off is the lack of customer service. There were two employees working when I arrived and neither greeted me although both looked at me as I walked in. When i asked if they sold gift wrap, the woman who helped me didn't bother to respond, she simply started walking to the back of the store where it was. The other woman was too busy staring me up and down to speak. Completely rude and made me feel 100% unwelcome. People don't understand that being nice goes a long way. Their behavior makes me not want to return in the future. read more

What a wonderfully delightful museum!! We went for the Annie Leibovitz exhibit, but there was so much more! Each space we went into, including their permanent exhibit, had such varied and wonderful pieces of art. Everything was well chosen and added to my delight. The only criticism I have is that some of the pieces were not displayed well in their cases and I don't understand why when there was room to display them better; some of the photographs were displayed so that the "line" of where the glass doors met cut right down the photo when it could have been prevented had they mounted the photo over to the right by a few inches. It's not as if there wasn't room. Wish there was a reason for this, but I can't imagine what it would be! Regardless, wonderful museum and exhibit! read more

We enjoyed strolling the 2 floors (3rd and 4th) of this uptown museum. It's been a long while since I've been to this location...and I could barely remember if any of it stayed the same or not. I believe one of the floors were dedicated to the more traditional American art...and the other to the more modern art. I definitely enjoyed the modern art varieties much more. We also noticed that many of the art was accompanied by a video display on the wall, explaining the work in detail. Not sure if that is the new norm, or just for this particular set of works...but I thought that this behind-the-scene exhibition was very enlightening. I'm very appreciative of art and culture in general...and this is definitely no exception. As always, we left agreeing that we should incorporate more arty outings in our future date nights. read more

The Mint is my favorite museum in Charlotte! As a member of the Young Affiliates of the Mint (YAMs), I get to visit both the Uptown and Randolph locations as much as I'd like (plus a bunch of other perks like museum shop discounts and free weekly yoga). This is also a great event space. I've attended events on the outside front terrace, in the main atrium, and in the special events room + terrace on the top floor. The permanent collection is impressive, with recognizable artists including Kehinde Wiley and local faves like Romare Bearden. They also bring in awesome special exhibits, some of which lean into the museum's craft & design sphere like clothing and seating. I highly recommend this museum (and membership) to those who love art and a great time! read more

I found an excuse to visit the main art institute of Charlotte when they offered free admission for a weekend; I nonetheless booked a free ticket online to make sure there wouldn't be any issue when I got there. The building is large, and a central space has some artistic merit while serving a function for events. I was not thrilled as there was some sort of noisy pre-wedding activities going on; using museums for social events after hours is one thing, but during visitation I'm not a fan of it. There were escalators between floors, but one of them wasn't working (I've yet to have any engineer explain to me why it is so hard to keep an escalator running). There were restrooms on every floor. Once I got to the art, there was a variety of intrigue. There were global exhibitions, but the focus was certainly local. Notably, there was probably as much African American art here as there was at the other dedicated museum nearby. The special exhibit was on chairs, which was kind of torture since I got there towards the end of my visit and was looking at chairs that I couldn't sit in, but to their credit they placed some separate non-exhibition chairs in the room for sitting. If I'd paid full price for it, I'd probably be okay with that, particularly given that your ticket is good for the other museum location which is farther from the city center, and lasts for two days. read more

While attending the worldwide United Methodist General Conference in April 2024, we had a break on Sunday, so I visited the wonderful Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC. It is well-located a short walk from the Convention Center. I loved their collection of American art, contemporary art and crafts. I also enjoyed shopping in their excellent gift shop. I was delighted by their great collection of many types of items. A great attraction stands just outside the entrance for all to see. STELLAR visit to the Mint this week for the Annie Leibovitz exhibit! I've been to the Mint before and recall it being fine but this experience was really great. Apart from the exhibits the building is gorgeous and comfortable and staff are engaging and fun (unlike some museums where staff lean pretentious and stuffy). Excellent gift shop with local crafts, good assortment of books, and a great greeting card assortment. Near restaurants, shops, and the baseball stadium for those making a day (or evening) of time uptown. read more

Overloved my time at the Mint Museum! For one, this museum actually has two locations in Charlotte, so the admission to one gets you admission to both with the ability to go the following day you visit the first, if needed. Admission for non-members is only $15 and if you find a Groupon deal, it's $6-$8. That price for two great museums is really a steal! During my visit, this location had a Beyond the Red Carpet exhibit that showed all the various awards across industries sharing history on the awards and organizations as well as the material the award is made out of. Every level of the museum featured a different style of art with the lowest level highlighting art work made by middle and high school students. I was so thankful to experience this museum and really delve into the culture of this city. I wasn't able to go to them Randolph location, but I will certainly be back to prioritize that. read more

This is the place to see art in Charlotte, and apparently it's often free on weekends, or If you are a healthcare worker! They have different collections in the rotation, so you could see everything from sculpture and impressionist paintings to digital art and comics to what you might call the more out there stuff, like a piece called "orfices" or a giant baboon/human hybrid women breastfeeding a baby. The Mint is a great way to spend a few hours in uptown getting your culture on, I recommend checking it out! read more

We were visiting Charlotte for the weekend and decided to browse the exhibits, which was free admission with our Bank of America cards. It was something to do and at no cost the first full weekend of the month. Let me preface my review by saying I've been to some of the finest museums in the world including the Louvre, Smithsonian, etc. Mint Museum was quite underwhelming and only had 2 floors of exhibits. It took us only an hour to walk through. I was surprised to see that one of the exhibits was homemade art from local artists made in 2019-2021. the second of two museums on museum-day last spring. they had a special on picasso for a modest up-charge but we chose to stick with the regular fare instead having had a sampling at the Bechtler earlier in the day. also passed on the two-fer on Randolph because sometimes sleeping in on saturday morning is more rewarding than getting up and actually doing things like culture... interesting bit on the mezzanine about the ills of urban life and in the craft + design gallery you're supposed to touch things, lots of things, things with textures, different colored things, different materials... touch, touch, touch... so unlike most serious museums but well suited to the current crop of visitors who are out of their depth when contemplating parking lot puddles. changes to the exhibits as well as special attractions and collections are advertised well in advance to ensure ample opportunities for everyone to enjoy everything. read more

Charlotte's largest and most popular museum is a feast for the eyes and senses, with a sizeable gallery of American art that spans more than 200 years of painting, sculpture and photography. The Mint's permanent collection is worth the visit alone, featuring works by Thomas Cole, George Bellows, Gilbert Stuart and Robert Henri. African-American artists are particularly well represented here, and the Mint houses the country's largest collection of work by the great Romare Bearden, who was born in the city in the early 1900s. We visited recently to take in the outstanding 'Picasso: Out of Bounds' exhibit, which showcased some of the Spanish painter's often-underappreciated landscape works. We didn't expect to spend another hour exploring the Mint's permanent collection, but were thoroughly impressed by the diversity of art spread across the fourth-floor galleries. The Mint also has a entire section devoted to American craft and design, which we'll have to explore on a future visit. Located in the heart of Charlotte's center city, the Mint is a great way to kick off an afternoon in Uptown. Park in the Levine Center Parking Garage or across Tryon St in The Green parking deck, and dive into this wonderful collection of art, housed in one of the city's most interesting buildings. Then drop in the Museum Store before grabbing lunch at any one of the fantastic restaurants within walking distance. A MUST for every Charlotte resident, and highly recommended for anyone visiting the Queen City. read more

I got to visit the Mint Museum last weekend and it was so refreshing to be around art again! I was pleasantly surprised to see a little children's area that encouraged creativity of different sorts (play, building, drawing, etc.). It made the whole museum more welcoming as a family activity, which I appreciate. We only saw two floors or art, which is a smaller exhibition of art than I expected, but one floor was reserved for a wedding that day, so I'm not sure what was encompassed in there. However, the idea of a wedding there with the large, stained glass windows in the background was really neat. The art that we did see was inspiring and had all the effects I would expect at an art museum. I left feeling satisfied and inspired by beauty. I did not get to see the gift shop mentioned by other reviewers. Parking was not my favorite part of the experience, as I found the parking garage confusing, but once inside, the elevator takes you right into the museum! read more
