Tiny little town in Texas, a bit off the beaten path is where you will find this little gem. It reminded me of my childhood, growing up in a small town in Oklahoma. Burgers were awesome, and they had a plethora of sides to choose from. I had the sweet potato fries and my husband had the curly fries. Both were perfectly crisp and delicious! My picky daughter loved the burger, and ended her meal saying she's perfectly satisfied. Sweet tea was sweet and the fried peach pie was divine! If you have to get off 30, give this cute little place a try! One plus: the team members spent their time cleaning, greeting folks and filling table garb. Food is really good, but very high prices. 3 tacos and a very small scoop of refried beans cost $14. I had to check to make sure I wasn't in New York City. On the bright side, they had a makings bar with all the toppings, and a lot of them, to dress up the tacos like we wanted. I ended up eating 2 tacos, and taking toppings and the other taco to make a really good taco salad later on at home. read more

Read great reviews thought this would be a good dining experience while staying in Naples for the night. The chicken fried chicken was good and several of the side dishes. However, shortly after we starting eating our meal the owner literally yelled at a young employee in the front of the house then proceeded to yell at an employee in the back of the house which we could hear. My husband wanted to purchase a fried pie but we didn't have cash. We had spent over 30 dollars on dinner and the owner wouldn't sell us a fried pie without using cash. He said he doesn't take credit cards for something that low. I understand that a small purchase like that isn't a norm but after spending over $30 i would think he could of made an exception. Overall the food was above average the staff was very friendly. The owner on the other hand is a crabby old guy that has forgotten how to treat people, staff and customers. read more

Some of the food is ok. You can tell that the green beans were canned. Kind of overpriced. But when picking up my order I witnessed what must have been the manager and an older lady yelling at a waitress, had her in tears over a kid peeing on the floor. It was sad and because of that they will not earn anymore business from me. When you act like that in front of customers. I cannot imagine how they act when no one is there. read more

I have been coming to Rear Of the Stear for years now and I am always greeted with a smile. The atmosphere in there is very small town and the owner enjoys becoming friends with customers. It is just a small town diner but it is honestly better than any of the diners in big cities that try to put off the same home like country feeling like this one. I am not personally from Omaha but I drive every bit of forty five minutes to eat there and so does my family because of not only the good food but the incredible service. The owner knows my family by name and always asks them how they have been or what they have been up to. Likewise, every time I have been in there he has known almost every customer that comes in the door on a respectful first name basis. Not only does the owner know my family, but most of the employees do as well and even remember stories that have been told or jokes that have been said. You can't get that kind of service at a big time diner or even at most small town diners now. It is very nice to come in and be greeted by employees and for them to also know you by name because even though the diner is in a small town there is definitely not a lack of customers. Everyone in Omaha and surrounding areas knows about or has been here. Another great thing about coming here is they always do their best to ensure wait times are short for food and refills. Even on a friday night home football game they do an excellent job at providing the fastest and best service. The owner definitely takes into consideration who he hires and chooses to work at the Rear Of The Stear because they now have a very good reputation. They are very good about watching and making sure you have what you need or want. No matter what you order it will always taste the same too. The cooks are very good at what they do and ensuring that the quality of the food is good. I have never had to send anything back or ask for something else. The food alone could give Rear Of The Steer five stars. My personal favorite is the bacon cheeseburger. The burger alone is massive and incredibly good. Then to top it off they offer a good variety of sides with everything. If anyone has thought about or is contemplating about going to Rear Of The Steer it will definitely be worth your time and money. You would think that with huge portions and excellent service that prices would be on the higher end of the spectrum but it is a very affordable place to eat. Good ole southern, comfort food. Great, family restaurant. There's not many choices to eat in this area, but we frequent this one. The owner greets you at the door and checks on you and your food. We like their hamburgers, brisket, and chicken friend steak, but the fried catfish is the local favorite. You will get authentic country food in a clean restaurant.
