The smallest of the Reckless locations in Chicago but still a very solid record store. This place has LPs, 45s, CDs, DVDs and probably some other formats that I am forgetting. Relaxed atmosphere inside but if you cannot find something the staff knows where everything is and is good about helping you find what you're looking for. You can check online to see if something is in stock before going so you do not have to hunt too much. Since this location is in the loop it is really easy to pop in and get something on the way home. read more

Called this store to have a DVD delivered to the Broadway store and after the guy took my info, I asked him his name and he said he didn't give out his name and when I said, "well, I just gave you my info?" he said he didn't feel he had to give out his name for any reason.I asked for the manager and he said he was the manager. WOW! NICE ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE PEOPLE THAT KEEP YOU EMPLOYED! YOU UNGRATEFUL MORON! I've gotten that same attitude at the Broadway Store. Unless you like that type of treatment from people who have a problem doing their jobs, I would shop somewhere were they appreciate your business. WTF is the matter with people! read more

This location has a poor selection and the shop is tiny. Stopped in a bunch of times, but not much to look at.

This is the weakest of the three Reckless Records (smallest selection), but it is still better than 98% of the other used cd/vinyl stores out there. Perhaps it's due to the location, but this location also seems a little more expensive than the others. Overall, though, worth a visit if you're in the Loop. read more

This may be the greatest record store on the planet, well, at least in Chicago!!! I've been a regular customer for over 20 years and was ecstatic when I found out that they were opening the Madison location. Sure, the place is tiny and the selection may not be as good as it is at the Broadway and Milwaukee locations, but every time I go in there, I stumble across some random gem or miscellaneous item that I don't really need, but somehow end up purchasing. And the vinyl selection is pretty damn sweet (Slayer on vinyl - hell yeah!) Prices are reasonable and if you have items to trade in, you'll save even more. Or just take the cash if you so choose. Several thousand dollars later, I'm still going back. Here's a shout out to Dylan, Jeff and the rest of the folks over there who I've shared hours of irrelevant music conversation for the past 2 years. read more

I had the pleasure of checking out Reckless Records on my trip to Chicago over the weekend. The store has a great selection. Between my girlfriend and I there is quite a lot of genre ground to be covered, and we found more than enough titles to fill our vinyl needs throughout the store. They also have a good selection of CD's and DVD's. Even better, the prices were consistently 3-4 dollars cheaper than I'm used to paying. Great place, wish I lived closer to it! read more

While record storesin Chicago are large in numbers, both the indie stores and the major ones, none are as large and indepth as Reckless. A majorty of Reckless, atleast the Loop location, is its CD selection. A large number of the used CDs are located in with the new. The prices on the used CDs are mostly very low. I was able to get two, ultra-kvlt, and rare black metal CDs for only 8 dollars. Both are rare, and out-of-print. I did look through the other selection to try and find some interesting indie rock CDs but the selection was almost to large in that part for me to find anything I was interested in. The vinyl selection is also intense. The metal selection has some extremly rare and limited records that are hard to find for even the most indepth collectors. I was pulling on classics and great new records like no end. Seriously, his place gives Metal Haven a run for its money. I was able to find some of my favorite indie records in this selection much faster. They has every Elliott Smith record on vinyl, every Spoon record, every Sunn 0))), a lot of Boris and evey Interpol record on vinyl. That alone shows what kind of store this is. The staff is a bit, eh how can I say this, rude and unappeling. One woman complaied when I said sorry for running into her, proclaiming loudly in a rude voice, "this is your store, right? No, its not." This is AFTER I had said sorry. The man at the frost desk looked at me strange when I asked what section Boris is in, considering their diversty. He said "of course, metal section." Again, in a rude voice, but I asked him to double check. He did and he than corrected himself, in a rude voice, that it was indeed, in the rock/pop section. If you are looking for a great but small selection of metal than this is your place. The non-metal sections are large and a bit hard to find records. The used prices are very low and very nice. Overall, a great store for a young high school music collecter like myself and worth the trip for anyone else. read more

I bought a brand new reissue of a record here that was supposed to come with several prints, which it detailed on the back of the sleeve. Because it was new, I didn't think to check to make sure they were inside. Bad move. Apparently when they put the record back in the sleeve from behind the counter where they keep them all until you buy them, that's all they put in it. I went back the next day and asked about them. I got a blank look. Ok. Here's the artist and album and it was a Japanese import, can you check, maybe they're back there where the record was...? The woman shook her head, "Nope." Didn't look, didn't even turn around. She said I could leave my name and number. I'm not sure how these were going to be found later when it was so impossible to imagine looking now, but I wrote it down, then waited a few more minutes for her to realize I was still standing there with the piece of paper in my hand. Needless to say, no call. I understand things get lost in the shuffle, but man, you can't take two seconds to look? Maybe a half-hearted, "Sorry?" Best part is I took the record out to play it the other day and there was a big thumbprint on it. Check everything you buy here, even if it's "new." Better yet, don't buy it here. There was not a single second of the experience, when I made my purchases or came back to ask about the missing part, where I felt anyone in the store cared the slightest bit.
