I called Recology today because as a resident of Mountain View I have been paying for 3 bins but have only ever had 2. I wanted to request an additional bin. I spoke to an emotionally challenged Melissa. She did not listen to me and kept finding another service address. Even after I spelt the number and street address a few times, she said my address did not exist. I told her to look on maps to confirm. She then went on a tirade against me and my attitude and my talking loudly. Yes, talking softly did nothing to get the job done. No apologies from her. I asked to pass me to someone else. SHE DID NOT ALLOW THAT. She claimed she spoke to her manager and put me on hold for a while but came back to insult me even more. She had absolutely no idea about finding a single family home Then she accused me of making her cry! i had no choice but to hang up. I am very busy and really have no time to provide therapy for Melisa in addition to sorting out my own trash. Why on earth Mountain View City chose this trash company (excuse the pun) for trash I don't know but I sure wish there was some democratic process involved when we are forced to pay for this. In addition the compost pick up truck has attitude. If just one leaf is showing through the lid they simply do not empty the bin. They do not take the bin if THEY THINK its tightly packed. I mean they dont even try. I have watched them. We don't know if the leaves will come out if they tip it over. This has happened several times. When I called to complain in the past I was told there would be an additional charge to send them back !! read more

I've been here many times. Watch out they are closed on Mondays. These are guys generally efficient and polite. There's less hype and formality than the other recycling centers. Please give these guys a break. I watched several people coming in at closing with the intention of making the staff stay late. They won't even acknowledge their responsibility to separate cans from plastics before coming in AT CLOSING. You can always come back tomorrow. If you come in with some consideration for the hours of operation, you should have a very good experience. read more

Service requests are never completed on time. I had had several requests that have been delayed by weeks and require constant follow up. The issues have also been escalated to senior managers and it doesn't improve. It is an example of a government contract where the company has no accountability. read more

YOU MUST MAKE AN APPOINTMENT to bring in your CRV. Next available appointments are 2-3months out. We made an appointment in late January and got an appointment in April. So make sure you make an appointment and expect a 2-3month wait time. Very fast! We were in and out in 10 minutes! Check in with an attendant! Let them know what materials you are recycling. If you have glass and they will bring out the glass only bin for you. You must sort plastic and aluminum into separate grey bins that are already there for you. They weigh and count everything and then give you the receipt to sign and give you CASH. TIPS: - I suggest coming 5 minute earlier than your appointment. Some people come to dump things in the general recycling bins and might block the drive way. Just be mindful of that and just parallel park on the street. - SORT YOUR ITEMS IN ADVANCE, rinse your items as you go. Drink/Rinse/Recycle. Or else it will be sticky.... read more

So I'm not sure why this place is only 2 stars. We have been coming here for years and have never had a problem. TO be fair this review is not for their global garbage service, but rather the drop in recycling center. First off its only a few miles from our house so its convenient to say the least. They have plenty of large bins for you sort your stuff prior to weighting. They do make you take off your lids on you plastic but they do not make you sort your glass colors. You drag them up, they get weighted and you get paid cash on the spot. Whats not to like? The downside is that if its crowded it can take a bit as there is at best 1-2 guys manning the center. This also explains the variable lunch times etc. They close the gates, take care of the customers inside, then go to lunch. that can make the time change depending on the crowd. We typically are not there at lunchtime so we avoid the mess completely. Service is always friendly and we have never had an issue. You can also dump off florescent bulb, electronics, and cardboard etc as well read more

We just moved to Mountain View and with the move came an excess of cardboard boxes. We quickly filled our bin but were left with many more cardboard boxes to get rid of. After donating all usable boxes, we still had some cardboard scraps that needed to be properly recycled. We drove up, SUPER SIMPLE, and tossed the broken down cardboard into the bin. The gal there was super friendly. We were in and out of there in a few minutes. So glad it is so close, so convenient, and even has ewaste options. read more

My dad went to several different recycling centers that day. We found that they either had very long, dirty lines or they were no longer in business. We'd seen the signs many times that pointed to this place, and we thought we would try it out as our last resort. Like many recycling centers, this placed was not there for the looks. However, I did like that this place did not smell like hot garbage nor did it look like a large party just finished up only a few hours before. The workers were nice, and in uniform, and not just in a pair of jean shorts, t-shirt, and a hat. There was a system to the way things were done, and the payout was fairly decent for what we brought in. Although it is farther out than I would like, it is worth the trip and worth the longer, dirtier, waiting lines. read more

Never had an issue other than hours are a little weird. They open at 9 and close for lunch hours from 12-1 pm and they close early usually finishing off whoever they have in the gates by 330pm. So their actual defined hours are SUNDAY/MONDAY - CLOSED Tuesday-Saturday 9am-1145am and 1:00-3:30pm. To ensure you get in before they close for the day or for lunchtime. Organize your bottle in advance and be ready to recycle your things. The smart station Sunnyvale location goes by appointment only so you will probably start finding this location being more busy than usual. So be prepared. read more

The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is no parking in the center itself just along the street. You should be able to find a spot pretty close depending on crowds which is mainly the non appointments Mountain View Residents dropping off their waste randomly. Buyback Appointments must be made a couple Months ahead and helps keep the crowds down. You don't need to be a Mountain View resident to make an appointment. I showed up at my scheduled time and checked in confirming my name and time (Nothing else was needed for check-in) and was directed to an area to dump my cans into gray bins (A full 32 Gallon bag of crushed cans easily fits a bin with a maximum of 4 bags per visit) There was no waiting. Then you or they will drag the Bins to the weigh and pay station 20 feet across from the sorting area. They will then weigh the bins and pay you cash. Watch out for the forklift as it may run through the recycle sorting area constantly. You are not allowed to stand inside the safer weighing area but must stay out near the forklift lane which seems a bit dangerous. I got paid about $40 for each 7/8 full gray bin of aluminum cans. read more

One of the worst trash and recycling services I've every lived with. Frequently don't pick up which means you sometimes end up having recycle pick up once a month. They make it very difficult to do the right thing. read more

Garbage pickup service is very bad. Average once a month, there are missed garbage bins not collected. Sometimes when you called in because of missed garbage collection, they promised that they would come. But you would find garbage bins were still there after you came back from work. Called again and hopefully they would do it. read more

They closed the gates a half hour before closing and turned people away. Luckily I was inside so my stuff was handled. They had everyone finished by 3:42 so I guess they just want to leave early. My wife and I are opening an F45 exercise gym on Grant Rd in Mountain View. During renovations the city required us to upgrade the existing fluorescent lighting to LED, which, even though it really stretched our budget, we didn't mind too much as we are environmentally minded. Instead of just throwing the old fixtures, tube bulbs and all, into the large construction or strip-mall dumpsters as we often see, I took the time to disassemble each one and remove the tube bulbs since they are supposed to contain trace amounts of mercury. I bundled the 20 or so bulbs in a plastic bag and went off to Home Depot as I remembered them recycling such bulbs. On arrival they told me they recently changed their policy to only take compact fluorescents not tubes (ironic as they still sell tubes). On Tuesday, December 3rd, I went there again but they also told me that they too no longer take tubes but that the nearby Sunnyvale SMaRT station would no problem. So I loaded the bulbs back into the car again and drove to the SMaRT station. There I followed the signs to recycling. No one was around but I found a large shelf of fluorescent tubes so dropped my bulbs off there. As I was driving away a lady stopped my car and said that she needed to see my ID and she said I had to take the bulbs back since I'm a Cupertino resident and SMaRT only covers Sunnyvale, Palo Alto and Mountain View (even though its parent company Recology also covers Cupertino). I said "but they are from a small gym in Mountain View" and she said "commercial is not allowed" to which I replied "that's for commercial demolition and construction companies who have other ways to dispose of these things. They are in the safest place for them, which our taxes paid for." and I drove away. Two days later the police show up at my house saying that Recology is accusing me of dumping hazardous waste. I told the officers this story and they were very sympathetic that I was trying to do the right thing but they said they were just the messenger and that they were supposed to tell me to go collect the bulbs or that Recology would press charges. Furthermore the officers said Recology gave them the impression that what I dropped was more dangerous than what they recycled which is a blatant lie - as I was dropping off 48 inch Philips T8 bulbs identical to what was already on their recycling rack. Now the bulbs are dangerously rattling around the back seat of my wife's compact electric car while we continue to search for another drop off location (from which ironically the bulbs will most likely end up back at SMaRT). I went to great effort to get the bulbs to the safe place directed to by Mountain View and paid for by our tax dollars and only got legal threats in return from Recology. They are not providing the services that Mountain View is contracting them for. Worse, contrary to their recent green-wash rebranding as REcycling + Ecology, they are clearly choosing profit by driving costs away versus doing the correct thing for the environment. No wonder most people just throw such bulbs in the trash. read more

Every time there is a holiday, our garbage is not picked up as promised. Maybe it's because we are a mobile home park? Such discrimination. I'm tired of calling and begging for service. My recycling is full, can't make it another two weeks, so I guess I don't recycle because Recology is too busy. One more thing, we still have split recycling bins, no where else has split cans, again, mobile home parks don't mat Update- Day 4 of waiting for garbage, and it was picked up today. This place is great to drop off any old electronics or batteries. The folks staffing the recycling center are helpful and ask you if you are a Mountain View resident. The location is great! Not too far from shoreline links, and super close to 101 and 85. read more

I like bringing my cans and bottles here to recycle, along with other hard-to-recycle materials like hard or film plastics that Mountain View doesn't normally accept in the curbside bins. I used to bring my milk cartons here, too, when those weren't allowed in the bins yet. The staff are always friendly, quick, knowledgeable, and helpful, and the sorting system is clearly explained and easy to understand. It's a sunny and open location that definitely doesn't have the somewhat-creepy vibe that some grocery-store-backlot recycling centers have. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would! This morning one of their garbage trucks, driver nearly hit my vehicle while myself and two young children were inside. After speaking with the Route supervisor, he advised me he would "counsel" the driver on the incident. Since when is it okay to drive erratically? Let alone being a public service company and driving this way. Complete BS! Be careful with the drivers of this company, they clearly don't care who they employ. Went there at 2pm and they had closed saying they were out of cash. This is third time this happened.

I took some glass bottles to recycle at 11 am Saturday morning. There were about 3-4 parties in line ahead. A notice board was placed at the end of the line that this is now closed. A staff was there and I asked if i can recycle the glass bottles. He turned me away and said they are closed for lunch (i was there at 11 am!) and asked me to come back at 1 pm. I told him that I can only bring recycle materials on Saturday and before i drove to the location i checked and is it within the opening hour. He did not listen and asked me to come back at 1 pm. Very poor customer service. I eventually drove to the Sunnyvale facility and completed my recycling there, with much better services. read more

Recology Mountain View has been a HUGE dsapointment. It took them over two weeks to deliver my garbage can and two recycling bins....this was after they said it would only take a few days. When I called them, the cans suddently appeared within a few hours. After picking up my garbage two weeks ago and missing our block last week, now all of a sudden the garbage truck can't make it down my street....we have to drag our garbage to the next block over. We are in a new development and I see large semi-moving-trucks (larger than a garbage truck) on my street every day. To top it off, Mountain View only picks up recycling every other week? Pathetic. Aren't we supposed to be a progressive city? In Redwood City, the recycling bins were much larger and were picked up every week. read more

There's been times where I have been home during pick up and I've seen some of the engineers take stuff out of the trash or recycle and throw it on my lawn, not cool man. Other times after I have gone through and broken down every single gawd dang cardboard and stack it nicely they don't take it, the pile either gets thrown into the recycle bin or just left on the street. I need to actually read up and that cause I thought they were able to take the cardboard even though it's not inside the recycle bin. read more

Updated!! Original review follows this updated version... I called back the next day about 1030am to find out what happened and why my pickup was never made. This time the call was taken in a more businesslike manner. The rep on the phone checked through a few things then said their driver would be out "today" to pick up the stuff-a mattress set. Sure enough they came out and got it taken care of the same day. 3/5 stars because of rude person on phone AND missed appointment first time. A shame because without the mixup I would have given them 4 stars, and without the RUDE person on the phone, I would have given them 5! The reason time was of the essence is that this was a townhouse/condo complex and they are really uptight about messes left around. They don't listen to call from customer, don't want to resolve problem, don't allow landlord to take over the service and pay bill when the tenants who moved out but forgot to call them. Then we have to wait for over at least 1 hour on the phone caused by their busy incoming calls, but no result. The lady of their customer service only repeat one sentence: "Tenant has to call to stop service, then you call us again." How stupid it is? read more

Always seems to be fairly easy to recycle here. Always lots of bins for cardboard and never too crowded.

I recycle here all the time, good place to take your own recycles and make a little cash from it. Its near my house so I dont have to drive far to take my recycling. I suggest if you live in Mountain view go here! #TheyAreGreat #QuickCash read more
