"our place" signal strength across and down the street (see other photo) BEFORE adding extender! Strongest signals! I need more?

I spent a few months researching different brands of pellet grills. Rust was a big complaint. While I was told on the phone several times by a Recteq representative that the grill was "100% stainless steel construction" that is NOT true! It seems there were some controller issues with all of the brands too. The worst part being that no replacement controllers were available. Wi-fi controllers are a great feature! That is, IF they work! It is a major selling point for this type of grill! While the grill is still usable without the wi-fi connectivity to your phone, that means you have to be home and BABYSIT your grill! I paid a lot of money to NOT HAVE TO DO THAT! I have a powerful ASUS MESH router system. BOTH routers are less than 20' away from the grill. Yet, I had trouble connecting the grill to the wi-fi system through the Recteq phone app. Recteq said it was probably a compatibly issue with my (less than 1 year old) android phone. I was able to eventually connect the grill. But it didn't stay connected. They said I had to connect the grill via 2.4ghz wi-fi vs 5ghz for a more stable connection. I had to go into my router settings to separate the bands so that I could choose 2.4ghz. That really didn't help with the problem. Then he said that my phone ALSO had to be on 2.4ghz for this setup procedure. That didn't help. As to notifications, I would get a notification that the grill was turned on and that I would get another notification when it reached the set temp. That second notification never happened. Then, I got a notification that the grill was OVERHEATING, even though it had NOT reached the set temp yet!! Sometimes I would get a notification that the grill was cooling down (xx degrees below set temp)...from cold wind or opening the hood to turn the meat, and sometimes NOT. On the meat probe, I would sometimes get a notification that the meat was almost done; sometimes NOT. I never got a message that the set temp was reached. I never got a notification that the meat was OVER set temp! This has happened time and time again. I called Recteq and jumped through the same hoops. "Uninstall and reinstall the app." "Un-pair and re-pair the grill." They suggested moving the grill closer to the router or move the router closer to the grill. Neither is possible. See photos. Even though I have a very powerful signal AT THE GRILL LOCATION, and even all the way across and down the street, Recteq insists that the problem is a "wi-fi signal problem ...100% NOT a controller problem." They insisted I install a wi-fi extender. (The extender would be no closer to the grill and would likely have a weaker signal to boot.) But I jumped though the hoops for them once again. Now the grill connects more consistently, but the problems with notifications still persist! Wyatt insists that if the grill is connected to wi-fi, the lack of notifications is NOT a controller problem. I emailed Recteq after installing the extender and asked them specifically to give me a list of all the possible notifications. I was ignored. I emailed again and got a partial list. I wrote back again. Got ignored. I called and spoke to the guy (Wyatt) I had been working with and went through this whole scenario again. Guess what he suggested. No, guess! Yep! "We can try to un-pair and re-pair the grill." Like EACH TIME I COOK??? I told him I was done jumping through hoops for him. I've been having this issue for 5 MONTHS already! "I am ready to write my review." He was not concerned at that point. He was not about to offer to send a new controller under the 4 YEAR warranty. He may know that the issues go deeper than that. App and/or server issues? Recteq does censor their negative reviews that they have control over. That is one reason why there is a BANNED FROM REC TEQ GRILL OWNERS Facebook page! I'm not alone. Look on reddit NEW 590, no notifications. No response from support - 7 days Other than the connectivity and notifications, so far this is the only major complaint I have for this grill. Well, that, and my experience with customer service. 5 months should be long enough to find a solution! Not keep doing the same things over and over, then expect a different result. (The definition of insanity!) There really is NO GOOD REASON for this wi-fi app controller device to be SO FINICKY!! (Unless the app and/or server are all screwed up? Hmmm....) Here are a few quotes from the forums: "Ray not aware? There have been 100 posts on it the last few days alone in all of the recteq groups I'm part of. Ray and the company know about it..." "It has been that way for years, if they had any plans to fix it it would have happened before the sellout." I finally sent an email to Ray C. I explained everything to him, and that I was done talking with Wyatt and Baret. I said I looked forward to his response. What did Ray C. do? He did NOT write or call me back! He had Wyatt call me, who said Baret (off that day) would call me tomorrow!

By far the best grill I have ever owned. I love my 1250 so much I decided to also get the 380X. I ended up getting many more things such as the sear kits, spice and sauce bundle and pellets. The app has turned me into super dad cooking things that my family loves. I live in a hot climate and turning on my oven is the last thing I ever want to do. My 1250 temp is dead on every cook. I pump out pies and cookies like crazy without heating up my home. I use my 380X as a standard grill mostly on the weekdays for faster cooks. It is also good for when I want to cook two different things that require two different cooking temperatures. In the beginning I had a few growing pains being new to the pellet grill world. I had been using a Weber Smokey Mountain for years. The grill comes with the co owners cell phone number if you need anything. What company does that anymore? He was friendly, patient and answered all my questions. The only gripe I have is I wish they had a Made in the USA line of grills. For big purchases I try to buy American. For that reason I was considering getting a Yoder however at a cost of 40% more than Recteq along with Yoder having a 3 year limited warranty, it didn't make sense to me. My 1250 has a 6 year full bumper to bumper warranty. That alone tells you how much confidence they have in their product. The call center is in Georgia which obviously gives Americans jobs so we can call it a wash. In short, Recteq is the Chick-Fil-A of grill companies. They are a great company with great customer service that makes a great product. I can't say enough good things about them.

Great location. The headquarters for Recteq on the east coast. I went during the Annual BBQ event Recteq has on at their east coast headquarters. Get there early since parking gets full before 10am. If you are looking for deals on smokers, you definitely need to get there at 7 or 8 am to secure a discount or their smokers. The event is held on the grassy area west of their warehouse facilities. There is a playground, stage for music and several different locations with setups to try different BBQ. Across the parking lot, is the warehouse where you can purchase Recteq smokers, grills, merchandise, etc. After a short walk from their break room. You walk across their warehouse to look at discounted merchandise. The inventory was vast and some of the returns have some sort of imperfection that vary in price and level of quality. The BBQ event was broken down to different part of the grassy playground area, where each line representing different BBQ or sides. Some of the BBQ available were the brisket hot dog, hash, BBQ tacos, BBQ sliders. This was a fun event for the whole family. Toward the back of the grassy area is a playground area for the kids. Check their social media event for next year annual event and get there early.

Warped during first cook at 400 degrees.

I bought a 590 during the latest scratch and dent sale earlier this week. It was evident it had never been used and must have been in the sale due to dents caused by bolting the legs into the sheet metal. During the initial smoke out to cure the pit I heard a loud clang. After an hour and as I was putting chicken thighs into the pit I noticed a large dent on the interior lip of the pit opening which was not there when I purchased it. I called customer support and was treated as a second rate customer due to purchasing it at a scratch and dent sale. Customer service advised me I should straighten out the warping/dent with pliers or I return it for a refund. I chose to use the pliers and did my best, as I live several hours from HQ and was not willing to travel back there. Also, the 30 day warranty for scratch and dent grills only covers "parts" which are considered to be the auger, blower, etc. After hearing such positive reviews on Recteq's customer service I was disheartened all they could do for me was direct me to put a set of pliers to a brand new grill. If the metal warped at 400 degrees what will it do at 600? Last image is my DIY metal work.

It's not even a year old and this started happening. The worst part is that the company blames it on the climate. They say is salty in florida. I have never heard of such a stupid thing. I reached out to them. They don't back up their product the way that I thought they would. I am extremely disappointed I will not be recommending Recteq. Don't waste your time on this product and get a Pit Boss that's a way better product. Mr. Pollett gave me no resolution to my problem.

Best Grill I have ever owned. I was in need of a new grill and wanted to move towards a high end grill, wood pellet to be exact. I ordered and received the Rec Tec RT_590 grill. It was the in-between is grill. First let me say easy to set up and it's even easier to cook with the WiFi and app for your phone. I am telling you I have never, I mean never, cooked as great as I have with this grill. My family absolutely loves my cooking off the grill, in fact, look forward to me actually cooking on the grill and asking what's next. I have cooked ribs, fish, steak, burgers, dogs and brisket, breakfast, caserole and on and on. The taste and tenderness is awesome, like we are eating at the restaurant and what makes it even easier are the recipes are on their website. Here is what I believe sets Rec Tec apart besides the grill itself!! When you buy a Rec Tec you become part of a family, but even before that I felt like I was part of a family. The social media access you have with them is phenomenal. The have live presentations, lunch hour, every day cooking different foods. Tons of videos on you tube and they still answer questions from videos from three years ago. I honestly can't believe how involved they are with their customers. And the customer service number is even better. I have had to call twice, once about an order and once about setting up and they picked up immediately and answered my questions, but more importantly it wasn't these canned responses by someone overseas, an actual real person who seemed to care. I just want to emphasize that I have owned a few grills in my time and I can't believe how awesome and easy this grill is when I am cooking my food.

I purchased an RT-700 smoker that arrived with minor damage. I had another RT smoker that I thought had failed due to the controller, so I made a deal with the company to get a new controller to compensate for the damaged smoker. After I assembled the new smoker, I cooked about eight boneless skinless chicken thighs at 425 degrees. When I was finished, I removed the chicken and left the smoker on. The following day, I noticed that the stainless steel had completely discolored and the paint below it had melted and was running down the side. The paint was also fused to the stainless steel. On my next cook, I set the temperature to 325 degrees. After completing the cook and removing the food, I noticed that the temperature had risen to 418 degrees. It may have gone higher, but that was the temperature when I looked. Due to the significant heat damage and the original shipping damage, I offered to pay for the controller they had sent me and make things right. However, they would only say it was a grease fire and were not willing to do anything more. I am disappointed with the company's response.
