A big part of the charm of Downtown Campbell. I can always find something interesting in this cozy, inviting bookstore filled with bookshelves that never seems cramped or crowded. It's not a big place, but easy to get lost. Very good selection of kids books. If I had a quibble, a few sections of used books can get picked over like "Science" or "Economics". They have a limited selection of new releases. I just love going here. read more

I dropped by recently to pick up some Harry Potter books and the person up front was helpful and super friendly. The prices are reasonable and the books are all in great condition. There is a variety of books that you can spend your time browsing. I really enjoy the feel of this place and if there were more seats, I'd probably spend hours in here. I love this bookstore. It has a little bit of everything. It's like a little taste of Heaven. In every little spot you will find something that you are looking for, and if you are not looking for it a book will just jump out at you wanting to be taken home and read. Everytime I go into town I have to check it out and see what's new or old (you can sell your gently used books for cash or store credit). They used to have kitties in there and I have not seen them in a while. I remember a couple of years ago one passed on. It was truly sad. Honestly, we need more bookstores like this in the Silicon Valley. Not only is this bookstore in a great location, it has a lot of classics and books related to the area. Most people,(my friends included), come for their mascot, but they end up finding a book they love and buy it. I come in to buy books for my little cousin. I truly believe children should read books before they move up to an iPad or a PDF because it teaches them patience rather than just skimming through the text with the search engine. For Christmas last year, I bought my cousin a little book of Hans Christian Anderson's fairy tales because she loves The Little Mermaid and birds. She loved it. It was small enough to fit in the small pocket of her backpack, so she's never bored when she wants time to herself at school. read more

Lots of books ranging from fiction novels to children's books and even books about beers you have to taste before dying, lol. I love me some Paw Patrol and they got those too! :D My significant other got the book he was looking for a series he's reading and as for me, I picked up The Girl on the Train since I've been seeing the movie trailer for this.. so I thought I'll give reading the book a shot. I love browsing in bookstores! When they're open, they often (always?) have a shelf of books outside, usually recent bestsellers, etc.--to draw you in...it works for me. There's a bookstore cat, ISBN (gotta love the name), who sometimes sleeps in the front window. Oh, so no dogs allowed inside, keep the door shut, & if you have cat allergies, be careful. Well, if you have lots of allergies in general, a used bookstore is probably not the best place to be going anyway. They have more recent bestsellers up front, along with chick lit (OK, I admit to reading this at times, ...there goes my intellectual facade). General fiction/literature is along one wall. Mystery/science fiction is along another wall. Those are their largest sections. Various non-fiction is in the middle--science, sociology, history, travel, etc. The small middle room has hobbies--art, crafts, food & cooking, sports, etc. The back room has romance & children's. Hmm...interesting...not sure if I'd want my kids (hypothetical; I don't have any kids) to catch a glimpse of that steamy romance novel cover. If you bring in your books for them, you can get store credit. I think the last time I popped in (I happened to be downtown at the farmer's market), I ended up leaving with 3 books, for the price of one! When in need of inspiration for more writing material, I'm always in need of old and new books to read...best fits my brainstorming when I need ideas to fit into my tiny little head and scribble down lyrical sentences or haikus that I have to...really have to....jot down onto a scratch of paper, napkin, receipt, or type away on microsoft word or whatever. I have a big heart for this place, but I'm sure of it that I have a big heart of loving any recycled bookstores that carry pop culture fiction all the way down to my first childhood book that I love so much! Walking inside and the smell of old pages or new books that haven't been roughly thrown around, I just love it. Not the cat so much....since I'm allergic, but this bookstore I know I can definitely fall back upon and leave happy with one or two books in hand. Every time come in, and I always purchase something, I am treated with such indifference, it makes me slightly nauseous. For those wondering, ISBN got old & so he retired to a nice home where he can sleep all the time. There's a new cat named Bob who is adorable. I bring in books regularly to sell back, and I buy other books often. They have a wide selection of used books in a variety of areas. They don't buy back a hardback if it's been released softbound. They are generous with store credit. Yes, they do have new books. Whatever they don't buy, I either hold onto and then look into selling a few months later, try selling back at the San Jose store, or I walk the block and a half to the Campbell library and donate the books to their Friends of the Library. I went to buy a new book & the person suggested that I go look for a used copy which I thought was really cool. There wasn't one, but I appreciated them looking out for me. I wish there were more chairs to curl up in but, I suppose, that's why there are coffee places around. The people who run it sometimes are brusque. I've had a few eyebrow raising moments. However, they're passionate about books and are very very knowledgeable about books and the used book business. And once they get to know you, they warm up a bit. There is street parking, and there is a small lot behind the bookstore where they have about 3-4 reserved spots. There are at least 2 parking garages within a 2 block walking distance. For me, this place is heaven. I can buy an Agatha Christie or a Perry Mason, read it, sell it back and buy another one. I can get some new books for the holidays, and sell it back and get more or get some money for coffee or gelato. read more

This is the best bookstore in the world. Not only does it have the cutest cat, but an excellent selection of books. I got many hard to find titles at this book store at very good prices. I bought both of my Kingkiller Chronicle books here that were very hard to find in the library. This is a gem of a bookstore that comes with character. I often find myself buying a new book every weekend. I also like to sell my books here as well. I hope this book store never closes! I love it to pieces. read more

I love used book stores. I really do. Any city, it's a favorite place to stop. I love the idea of giving previously purchased reads another life. And I really enjoy Recycle Bookstore West, and the character is brings to Campbell. But today as a seller, I was groaning. I know [now] that they offer 20 - 25%, and only on what they think will sell. A lot of times, if I'm done with a book and won't reread it, I'll donate, but this time I wanted to see what I'd get for my goodies. I brought in a stack of several hard cover, barely opened, a couple new this year (one new July! By a local author!), and I wish I'd done my research, or maybe declined and come back after thinking it over, because I ended up leaving feeling pretty fleeced with $11 in hand. Maybe I could've returned some to amazon, maybe I could've tried selling on my own. It's all a gamble, I know, but I left with about half the price of one of those new books. read more

I've been to this bookstore a few times and I really like it. Sometimes I have an aversion to used bookstores for a number of reasons, but this didn't seem to fall victim to such problems. I appreciate buying used books. New books are so expensive and not worth buying. I will only read it once. I've learned from moving so many times that a bookshelf full of books may be interesting to look at and show off to friends, but it's a pain to use. I prefer to buy a used book, read it, and get rid of it: donate, sell, give away. Many used bookstores are not fun to go in. Most smell bad. Some people say they like the smell of old books. I think what they are smelling is inches of dust, but whatever works for them. Some have a really bad selection. Some only have bad books from 1970 or specialize in only romance or mystery. I guess if you're interested in any of those books, then it's fine, but I'm not. Other stores are not well organized and it's a pain to browse through the books. Eventually I just give up and leave. Recycle Bookstore is not like the above bookstores at all. It's clean, organized with recent books and books I want to read. The shelves are not overloaded or swamped with books so you can look at them. They are in order and organized by genre. If you have a book in mind, it's pretty easy to find it. The books seem to move fairly regularly so they're not all dusty and gross. There's also a balance of books by genre so there's something for everyone. At my last visit, I was buying a copy of Slaughterhouse Five. The lady at the register said she actually had a cheaper one if I wanted it. I said I did so she swapped the book for a cheaper one. I appreciate that greatly. I didn't need a pristine new edition. I just wanted to read it and the copy she gave me was older but in great shape. One positive/negative depending on perspective is that the store is in downtown Campbell. I've had a difficult time finding parking at times depending on what's going on. I suggest going and browsing many of the stores and restaurants in Campbell and spending some time. It's a nice town to visit. I can't wait to return and see what is new and pick up some new classics to read. read more

This place is near and dear to my heart. Yeah, you can buy a book online but this place is full of so much charm and personality that it becomes a destination for our date nights. I can't name one time we've left this store empty handed either. There's always something cool to be found. Whether it's a book about hippy crafts for my best friend, gardening or cooking books for me, or books to capture my kids' imaginations. I love everything there is about this bookstore. It's a combination of used and new books with a great selection! I've bought a large amount of used books by Murakami from this bookstore and they're usually over priced at other stores! I don't usually trek all the way to Campbell because their sister/brother store "Recycle Book Store" is a lot closer to me, unless i'm eating dinner across the way at Willard Hicks or Opa. A blessing in disguise, the very long wait for these restaurants gives me the opportunity to get lost in the sea of books across the way here. Best of all? I love visiting Bob the cat! Great used book selections. I am glad that they've moved to a larger space - more books to browse around!! I get my favorite paper book series here and they always have them in stock and in good shape too. Paperbacks half price from the original. Reading other yelper's reviews, I will try to bring my used book sometimes. The cute kitty in the store adds a character to this place. It reminds me of the small used book store back home in Japan- the only difference is the cat was an old lady back home. This review is long overdue. Everytime I come to downtown Campbell, I always stop by and poke around. I always find a nice read inside, and they have plenty to choose from. The place is also very well organized, so finding a type of genre is a breeze. I introduced my lovely friend to Bob the cat which resides here and he is always so wonderful. He usually hangs out up front. The people inside are also really great. They are always so positive and handy with help on finding good reads or looking for particular sections. Both my friend and I have sold a few books here and there. They are fair with their buybacks for books. We both like supporting small businesses like this, especially when the people are so wonderful. Overall; this is our go-to for books in the area. As a Campbell resident I'm always on the look out for hidden gems. This is located right smack in the heart and center of downtown Campbell. They have a variety of books for reasonable prices both new and used. I like to think that I am modernized with technology but there are some things like actually holding a book and turning or feeling the pages of a good novel that I can't seem to let go of. This place definitely has novels ranging from mystery, fiction and biographies and more. Something that makes this place stand out is there "Blind Date" with a novel section. I thought this idea was genius. Tucked away in the back section of the store there's a section with books wrapped up and there's only a couple of great adjectives and small sentences used to entice people to read, however the name of the novel isn't there. I thought that this really made the store stand out as well as get people excited about reading a novel and half the fun is predicting what the novel is. Another thing that is very important to me is as a mother to a young growing boy that really enjoys the Internet over a book it has a section for kids and youth that has a variety of books that really grab the attention of young kids. They also buy books so it's a great hobby for kids who read and finish novels, so when they are done reading they can bring their finished books to sell or get store credit. Being a mom on a budget this works out great! Read, sell and buy more books to read! Win win for all! And there's more... Before you go to the local bookstore (like Barnes & Noble) and end up paying top dollar for a new book, you're better off going to used bookstores like this one in Downtown Campbell (there is a second location in San Jose along The Alameda) and getting a real bargain deal on items that are just as good as new! I recently went to Recycle Bookstore in Campbell to find some different books on foreign language and maybe even a few other topics of interest, but found that the prices are so much cheaper than if I had gone to the aforementioned Barnes & Noble. The staff is nicer and they even have their cute orange cat hanging around the store. There are lots of good treasures if you are into reading and enjoy books. You can even sell books and get store credit for some of their other items too, and I did sell some books a few years ago. read more

It's a large & diverse selection, with even vintage rare books. l was so impressed to see all* Aleister Crowley titles and indie children's books. Friendly folks at the counter. There's also a featured section of local history and facts. Most of all, it's a new/ used book store that does not feel dusty. l didn't know anything about Campbell prior to coming here, and my impression of San Jose is office complexes superimposed over ghettos and large areas of nothing, but this bookstore gave me a sense of Campbell's identity, that real people live there. Been here many times, bought four books if memory serves. They have a nice, diverse selection, which is impressive for the smaller size of the store. It's a cool store to just walk around in and check out. Nice atmosphere, has a brown, earthy atmosphere about it. They have a selection of "mystery" books, which entails a wall of books wrapped up so you can't see the title, with the genre printed on the wrapping. So basically you can choose a surprise romance, crime, political, ect... book, buy it, then open it up and see what book you bought. Neat way to get people to try something new. It's also impossible to talk about this place without mentioning the cat that roams the halls and sleeps on the counter. Not sure his name (I think it's Bob), but he's very approachable and friendly, let's you pet him no problem. Watch out though, he, like all cats, loves to hover around feet, and I almost kicked the poor guy once. Whenever we come to Downtown Campbell, we stop here. This bookstore is great- lots of books both new and used, with reasonable prices and helpful staff. When was the last time you just picked up a book and leafed through it? I like the graphic novels and comics, the Wife always finds true crime, history, and older literature- girls are happy to find masses of books for them, including a great selection of girl superheroes! This is a great bookstore! The staff is friendly, it has a cozy atmosphere with bookshelves overflowing with books so it guarantees an afternoon's worth of browsing. It's a small-ish store but it has a great selection of used and new books. And it's located in a great place near bakeries and coffee shops, so you can go grab something to drink when you're done! And there's a cat wandering around that usually doesn't mind if you sneak a few pets. 10/10, I wish all bookstores were like this read more

Awesome bookstore with a great sci fi/fantasy section (which is my jam). The staff is super sweet, last time I was there an older gentleman (I wish I would have gotten his name) approached me with some recommendations and friendly conversation. Great pricing on both used and new books. Plus they have Max the bookstore cat! I love this place. Average bookstore selection-wise, geared mostly towards recent bestseller fare. If you're looking for 50 Shades of Grey or The Da Vinci Code, you'll find it in stacks here. My rating is lower because of their tricky buying policy. I sold a few books and received about $50 in store credit, only to later learn that store credit can't be used for nearly anything in the store. I found about $100 worth of books I hoped to buy, but was told only 79 cents of the stack were eligible for trade. I felt more than a little bit mislead. read more

It's a fun local bookstore with helpful staff and a cat. I mean...what else do you want in life? It's a super fun place to browse if you have a little spare time or need another book in your life, but I also learned the other day that if you don't find what you're looking for, they can order it! I was looking for a specific book and was about to just order it off Amazon when they offered to order it for me. They were able to find me a paperback copy (I could only find hard cover on Amazon) so in the end I got to support my beloved local bookstore, actually save a dollar (paperback vs. hard cover), and visit the cat twice.
