I've been going to Heroes more frequently since the comic book store near me closed. After visiting a lot of the other local comic book stores, I can easily say this is my favorite spot. They have a good selection of back issues & definitely the best sales on free comic book day hands down. They currently have a sale for back issues: $10 & less is $1 & everything over $10.01 is half off. Everything is organized and easy to find & staff is always helpful & pleasant to speak to. We make a habit of visiting every comic book and card place in the area when we see one. We were in downtown Campbell to get some video games and plants and saw this on our drive home so we stopped to check it out. When we went inside our eyes widen. The comic selection is MASSIVE. I am not a huge comic book person but I do appreciate them and sometimes I do pick one up that seems interesting to me. I was looking around and looking around and the staff didn't really acknowledge us. It was not a huge deal to me maybe they were busy but doesn't hurt to look up and say hi. On our way out my boyfriend asked about a MTG card and this guy at the cash register answered in such a way that gave us a hint that we weren't welcome. The passive aggressive answer didn't sit right with me. Gave us the feeling that "that's a stupid question. please leave". We only ask for this one specific card if they had it in their loose card bin. Figured doesn't hurt to ask. Anyway, we were going to buy some things (because that is usually what we do in these places to grab something to support them), but I put back my items andl we left feeling stupid. Hoping there are a bit nicer to their customers next time. read more

My sister took me here for my birthday and I had a great time! The back issues were 50% off and I found so many great reads! I loved the posters and interior decorations and the large selection they had. Parking was easy to find and the workers were easy to talk to and approachable. I went in looking for card holders and pages to house cards in a book. The owner was doing some kind of inventory and disinterested in conversation or eye contact. I won't return. Alan, your inane. No one said anything about a confrontation, you were simply rude! How would you look through video footage when you have no idea when I was in the store? First thing I want to say. These guys are really nice, I wish they had a larger selection of MTG stuff for me to buy from them, if I was missing any of my power nine I would buy one of the pieces out of their case. That being said, massive range of comics... freaking massive!!! I may come back when they are less busy and buy a Star Wars comic from them, this is a comic guys dream, not so much for me but the service provided alone is worth the 5 start review, I had to interrupt them during some sort of sorting slash pulling comics for a couple of large orders and they were happy to do so and didn't rush me when I was looking at the vintage cards I was buying from them. Revisited the store this week. They have a big selection of comic books. As a comic fan, it's awesome to see so many historic books in one place. I changed from 5 stars to 3 because the prices are high. All the back issues bins are half off, but appear to be marked up 3x the fair market value first. I'm a bargain hunter so the pricing didn't work for me, but might work for collectors willing to pay a few extra dollars for harder to find issues. read more

I never had any comic book stores when I was a kid - too small of a town. Always wanted one. Fast forward thirty years - my 11 year old son is a nerd like me and LOVES any and all comic book stores. Love the place. I'm not actually a huge comic book fan, but I love all of the paraphernalia. Bought two Next Generation figures (Geordi and Data obviously). Waiting for Picard. My son loves to browse the comics and look for his interests. Love the old (things my youth are apparently "old" now) toys and stuff. Afterwards, we typically drive right down the street and get Dairy Queen. Folks, this is a local business and needs support. This is one of the good ones. The staff has each and every time been supportive, polite, helpful and talkative in a good way. Stop in and give it a try! read more

They have a standing deal on trade paperbacks and hardcovers where you buy two and then get a third of equal or lesser value for $1. Today I went in to buy 6 of them. Three of them were in the $40 to $50 range, and three were $25 to $29. So I expected them to group them like that and get a $40 and $25 ones for $1 each, the way any normal store would do a BOGO offer. But the guy rang up two of the $25 ones for $1, charging me for the $40 one. I pointed out what I assumed was an error, but he said that was intentional and its always the two lowest priced ones. When I explained that if I had bought the two sets separately, I would have gotten them for less money, and asked why would I donate $15 to the store, he said I was just trying to "game the system". I made him cancel the sale, and when I tried to buy just the 3 expensive ones, he refused and said I had wasted his time so he wasn't going to sell me anything. F*** this store. Won't be back again. I'll just get my comics online from now on. read more

They don't have the largest space available, but they definitely use what space they do have to jam pack their shelves with the best new and hard to find material. Single issues can get pricey here, but they make up for it by being able to provide such a vast variety of new releases as they come out. I always buy whole runs of issues when I come here, it's cheaper than buying per issue and it's nice to be able to carry my comics around in one book. read more

Heroes is now in a new location , use to be in Budd way back in the day. This location doesn't have many baseball cards anymore but it makes up for it with the vast collection of all genres of comic books. This shop did sell a few collectable figures, cards and such but it's primarily just comics. The guy who helped out was cool. I had so many questions about a specific comic book and how to get it graded. This guy really went out of his way to help out with this. They had some He-man comics and I got a regular cover and variant cover. Reasonable prices too. Definitely will visit again if I'm in the area and need a special comic. On a side note , get your doughnuts from the neighboring shop after. I heard this shop is not too happy to share the lot and that's the only bummer. This was from other customers standing outside talking. I didn't have those issues. Just trying to give others a heads up. read more

My awesome shiny 5 Stars is a bit biased and skewed, forewarned. But still a great experience nonetheless! Being the forgetful nerd, it totally slipped my mind that Saturday May 6 was Free Comic Book Day #FCBD! So I decided to Yelp the nearest comic store to grab the special limited edition of Doctor Who's FCBD issue that I've seen everywhere on my Amino social media. Called them before heading out to make sure that they had it...and thankfully, the employee told me there was plenty in stock. Arrived there fairly easy, but the parking is tiny and luckily, I snagged a spot right in front of the small store. I entered and it was pretty packed! 90% males I would say but that didn't deter me. Confidently, I walked towards the FCBD section and was able to snag 2 free issues, Doctor Who and Guardians of the Galaxy. There was a max of 2 anyway, totally understandable. Fortuitously, there was also a store-wide sale. Single issues $3.99 and under were only $1!!! I freaked out and scoured the aisles. Looked for Doctor Who (grabbed 8 issues), Game of Thrones, Sherlock (grabbed 1), The Walking Dead (grabbed 1), Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. As much as I love watching Marvel and DC movies, I never got into the comics cause of its longstanding legacy (and due to the fact, I'd be 50 before I finished the whole series of anything). The employees were super friendly, maybe cause I was a nerdy Asian chick? Haha regardless, everyone seemed to be having a good time perusing the aisles and getting lost in wonderland. I would only ask that they stock more toy items/collectibles, like Doctor Who's sonic screwdrivers...*wink wink* perhaps the 10th Doctor ;) I love this local store and I will definitely be back!!! He was very quick in his email replies. I had no idea what my collections were worth. But Alan was good about explaining what is valuable and what's common. If you don't agree with the prices, you've obviously never waited at Target for them to open trying to buy Pokemon cards at retail price, for two weeks straight. For the Pokemon Celebrations expansion, the demand is HIGH. For a couple of weeks I went to GameStop, Target, and Best Buy, with zero luck trying to find the set I was looking for. I came here on a whim and the exact Pikachu Celebrations set I was looking for was sitting right there, like a beacon of hope. I sat there looking at the price thinking to myself, it's right here in front of you. You may be paying more, but at least you can add it to your collection immediately. No more having to take a gamble at Target and hoping that it's in stock. Support your local card shops, it's simple supply and demand, their prices have to compete with the market, it's not personal, it's business. read more

Cool comic book shop. Spent a good amount of time just browsing after having some sweets from Psycho donuts next door. We spent more time browsing here than Psycho D. Tons of stuff to browse from vintage Golden Age comics like the early Spiderman's, to a solid collection of newer comics. They even had some of the original Transformer's comics I remember from growing up in the 80's. The original Dinobots! Not the newer rip-off Transformers from today's movie (Hi Megan Fox). Other cool things they had from the 80's were the original garbage pail kids and the Boba Fett mask. Boba Fett is arguably the sickest looking Star Wars character to date. Word. read more

Now this is a comic book store! I haven't found a comic book store like this in a long time. A place that has a great amount of back issues, sketches, boxes, trading cards, trade paperbacks, art books, children's comics, and new comics -- all organized in a presentable fashion. Heroes is an unassuming little "house" located near other small businesses, yet isolated by itself. Heroes' sign can be easily spotted from the street since the bold black typeface and "appropriated" Captain America shield pop off of the stark white billboard. Once you walk in you'll find that everything, including the walls, covered in comic culture merchandise. Original artwork, posters, comics, and the like sprawled across the space as if there were an entity in itself. It felt like I was transported back to my childhood days where new fantastic universes were to be explored and lived in. The single-issue comic books are separated into different sections: Independent, Marvel, DC, mature, new releases. This is done really well because if you don't even want to look at a specific type of comic, this place allows you to do just that. Comics are face-displayed on metal racks. Nothing is too high but some things you might have to crouch down to reach. The stocking of comics is exceptional. Although I couldn't find some stuff that I was looking for, I found other things that were either on my mind or totally new gems. They also seem to do a good job of stocking things that they enjoy reading. Children's books are situated right near the door along with the back issues and cards. The children's section also includes such classics as Tin Tin and Asterix! I didn't really look through the back issues, but they had a lot of cool silver age and golden age comics on the wall. The back issue boxes are crammed with comics, so you'll most likely have to pull them back with some muscle. There are about three book shelves that stock all their trades and books. It doesn't seem like much at first until you actually start looking through it. The condition of these are pretty well kept and organized. There are also trading cards, sports cards, and the like. I didn't really get a good look at this but it seems like they have a good amount. Other notable stuff is their boxing area and an art book area. As I casually shopped around, there was a TV playing Jurassic Park. Shopping and browsing was very enjoyable. I was in and out without a fuss. __ Bigger than it seems. It was my first time coming here today, and wow, this is my Disneyland haha! I ended up looking for almost 3 hours, and leaving with 11 different comics! This store really has a huge selection of comics, I was also told that if there's something specific you're looking for and they don't have it, they could special order it for you, which I thought was really awesome. I was really impressed and also intrigued because while I enjoy modern age comics, I have a deep appreciation for the older ones(bronze, silver, and gold age), and they have bins and bins of them! It was really like I died and went straight to heaven. I wish I could've looked more, but I got a bit tired of digging around for 2 hours lol. There's so many affordable comics and deals, I'm honestly perplexed because I went to this other comic store the other day and ended up spending over $40 for 5 comics. I spent less than $40 and got 11 comics out of it! I got to have a nice conversation with Tom for a bit before I left, he was so kind and really helpful! Hi Alan & Team - I stopped in at Heroes for the first time today. I grew up in SJ, and as a child of the late 70s & 80s, I think it's a tragedy I waited this long to visit. I was visiting from just outside of town (Livermore) and had about 20 minutes to burn. Great selection of Silver Age keys. Right up my alley. However, if I could leave a constructive piece of advice, it would be to step up the proactive customer service side of things. Despite being the only customer in the shop for the first several minutes, not one of the 3 folks in the shop said anything. Not a big deal, but still. I did ask the youngest guy nearest the silver age section if there were any additional Spideys or DDs available vs what was out. Come to find out there were a couple additional boxes behind the counter, but he was VERY hesitant to let me flip through them without asking someone else first, which I don't think he ended up doing. No problem again, I can appreciate that considering some of the prices in the boxes but by the same token, I wasn't some random child off the street. That said, the kid warmed up and started chatting with me and I was able to flip through some pretty stellar books. In the end, I picked up a "VF/NM" ASM 62. After some chatting with Tom, I got an OK mini-discount...enough to bring me back at least but please don't take it the wrong way when a customer asks if the marked price is the best you can do. It should be a fairly regular question in this biz, especially regarding older books. I wasn't there to lowball (although I'm sure you get your fair share of this), and I didn't throw out a price I demanded to pay. I'm an out of towner in your shop, I get it. However, I simply asked if that was the best that could be done, but I digress. Tom ended up being a pretty cool guy to chat with as well. Much like the first guy, over time he warmed up and was extremely nice when all was said and done. I will definitely be back, and hopefully I'll have the opportunity to speak with you at some point, Alan. You have a great shop, and I can tell you're passionate about the hobby. Some of my comments are admitably nit-picky. I can tell your staff are good albeit not very talkative (at first) folks but it's also very apparent they love the hobby too so everything considered, it was a positive experience. Thanks! In my original review of Heroes, I gave them 4 stars, taking away 1 for customer service. I have been in the store several times and made a substantial purchase each time. Each time I have been ignored, and when I made my purchase the staff have acted as though I was wasting their time by being there. I tried to make this a regular stop since it is in a convenient location. But with the staff ignoring me and chatting with selective people I know I personally am not welcome in their store, and I will no longer shop there. First Review: If you want a large selection, this is a great place for comic books, graphic novels, and TPBs. At the front of the store is a display of All Ages comics, including an impressive stock of Archie Comics. The layout of the store is organized by DC, Marvel, Independent, etc... on tall racks. There is a section of new releases neatly arranged. They have a really great stock of $1 back issues. They also have a big inventory of back issues at assorted prices. They carry Magic cards and other collectible cards, and have some action figures available for purchase. This is a fun store, however I wasn't greeted by either employee when I went in and the cashier barely spoke to me. I kind of felt like I was intruding, so I dock a star for that. They have good prices, a large variety of titles, and other comic-related merchandise that is fun to check out. A die-hard comics fan should stop here when in the Campbell area. read more

Good comics selection,and really good selection of comic-related sculptures, etc. My "Meh" review is because of the high prices, but especially because they have VERY poor customer service when it comes to kids. I have a preteen daughter and son, who both love comics, and are more knowledgeable than most adults on comics topics. When I bring my kids in, the clerks look away and don't address us at all. My kids are very well-behaved and don't "mess" with anything. My son has asked clerks perfectly legitimate questions, and the clerk actually IGNORED HIM completely!! My son just looked at me like "WTHeck!??" This has happened each of the 3-4 times I've come by with my kids. I don't come by on purpose, but just because we're nearby. I also have friends who've had their kids treated the same way. Dear Heroes: Don't ignore the next generation of comics lovers -- you're just digging your own grave. We won't be back. There are many better places very nearby, and I've never seen such a disrespectful place in my 35+ years of comic collecting. I was just like my kids once!! :-( read more

I'll give them three stars off the bat for being a credible comic store in an underserved market, and for participating in Free Comic Book Day. But there isn't a lot else to give them credit for. The energy of this place is very dark. It feels like you're stepping into someone's garage circa 1995. That's not a great thing. It feels old, dusty, and unwelcoming. The comic book selection itself is fine. These people know what things are worth, which is fine I guess, but that also means no "diamonds in the rough" as another reviewer put it. There's also a limited toy and trinket selection, although it feels like an afterthought and many of those have non-mint boxes. In summary...this place is alright, but there is very little that makes me want to come back. read more

My husband has a subscription box here, I don't even want to think about how much money he's dropped over the last year and a half. He's noticed the service to be lacking and the comics he's requested not always making it to his box. Today I called to see about getting a comic (a reprint of a recent issue) that's coming out tomorrow put in the box. Mike, the guy who answered the phone, was beyond rude. He said there wouldn't be a reprint and if there was they wouldn't be getting it. When I mentioned that it was on the list on their web page of things arriving tomorrow he got even ruder and told me, no and they won't be getting it. That sealed the deal, my husband will be taking his money elsewhere. Really makes me miss our great comic shop up in Seattle!! read more

The first time I came here, I was just a young boy and my eyes grew big at the large selection of amazing things that I saw. Flash forward to a month ago. Not so great. Yes, they have one of the greatest selection of comic books ANYWHERE in the bay area. I will give them that. Probably one of the greatest key issue and rare comic book selection in California. That's about it. Every item hanging from their walls is AT LEAST marked up 50% or higher. They are GAUGING people with their unreasonable prices. So they have a coupon which is good for any comic priced $9.99 or lower for one dollar! I thought "hey this is great! I'm gonna get some great deals!" No. As I go look through their back issue bins, I noticed a sign that says all issues are 50% off. At this point I'm confused and asked if my coupon was valid or is one or the other. The clerk stares at me, gives me a look as if saying "what do you think genius?" and says "ummmmm no." "No what? I reply. "Just no dude, you can't combine them" Ok I say and suck up the attitude and keep looking. So I have my books ready and as I go through the bins I realize that NOTHING is priced at $9.99. NOTHING. Everything is $10, more or less. So I think oh well $9.99 must be $10. I go up to pay for my comics and the guy says "ummmmm no dude! They have to be $9.99 or less!" " I say, but there is no $9.99 comics, only evenly priced comics." He says "well that's too bad" Are you fucking serious!? At that point I put all of the books back and walked out. I also had questions about them sending a few of my comics to CGC grading. Since they "pride" themselves in having such a huge selection of CGC high-end comics. The CGC site also has them listed as a place to send in your comics. I ask the guy about it and he stares at me and says "ummmm you can just do it yourself" I said, "yes I know I can. but the site says you guys could do it for me and I would feel more comfortable doing that" He doesn't say anything and then hands me a card "talk to owner about that. He does that." O.....K. Nevermind then. The owner is a lowsy person, and so are all of the employees. Very rude and uncaring about their customer needs. Oh and while I was there, one employee was "cooking" his dinner which was leftover spaghetti from the night before and it permeated the entire store. It made me want to barf. Just to give you an idea of how crazy over-priced they are, they have a copy of Saga #1 which they claim is NM, for $175. Really? Like, really? No thank you. I will NEVER be returning to heroes. read more

This is a comic hobby shop just off the super popular main part of Campbell. There is some strip mall associated parking right next door so parking close by is not a big deal. The outside of this store doesn't inspire all that much confidence. The windows are covered up with advertisements, the roof has seen better days and the generic white painted exterior is very plane jane. Not the most appealing exterior. Inside however it's just jam packed with comic goodness. They've a extremely very large stock of collectible comic books/illustrated novels/branded items so if you're the kind of person what knows what a sliver key is then this place is worth your time. They carry editions for any major story line from the last twenty years (savage dragon for the win! Also nth man the ultimate ninja.) which is pretty impressive. Of course-this is a comic shop-they also have pretty much every current story arc from both independent and main stream labels. I didn't see a ton of manga, but as far as I'm concerned that just makes this place better. While they do the collectible figure/toy thing that also isn't the main focus here. What is the main raison d'etre is comics-both classic and current. I'm no collector-but I do think that if you can sort out the misogyny and dreck of bad story lines that at times comics tell amazing stories in ways that other media can't. For me digging through the stacks in search of a compelling well illustrated tale is worth a few hours once in while, and this a excellent place to get that in. read more
