First time to this store or chain, but as it was recommended place to shop (by my friend who has checked out several shopping options & others I'm cat sitting for), I figured why not check it out. i just needed a few basics for finishing up my supper plans after all. I was happy with the amount of selection throughout the store. There's lots of premade/quick to add to meal options in the first aisle as you walk by the sandwich prep area. As I did arrive within the last hour they were open, I didn't do a full exploring kind of shop. I had a mission & didn't want to overstay. However, what I did notice is that things seem well stocked, with recognizable labels for both conventional & organic items. I found what I wanted & a bit more (hurray for eggnog still being available after New Year's Day!). At the till, I left thinking prices seemed about the same as the other 2 market/grocery stores I've stopped at. This one was just much more manageable for me to shop. I really enjoyed the fact that it is small enough that I'm not using all my energy to reach the dairy/fridge aisle. I didn't see any aisle description signs but then again, as this is a smaller store there isn't a giant long section & you can see things a lot easier from either end. Store seemed clean & accessibility wise was decent for width of aisles, entrance/exit. The line-up area/ access space around the tills would be easy to navigate for any mobility aid. Important to note, there's minimal street parking available. Definitely one can describe this market as a neighbourhood market & best to walk there, bike, bus or be dropped off. I also have to note it was a nice surprise to see the person stocking the store was able to help manage the line growing at check out. That's rarely the case in bigger stores to have a till open up. The only reason I'll give a 4 star is that the person stocking throughout the store passed me several times while I was shopping. Yet, never asked if I needed help or if there was anything in particular I'm looking for. I found things well enough by myself but that kind of struck me as odd. It was also weird for what seemed to be a community store, not to have a welcoming vibe from him or any of the staff throughout my shopping time/check-out. Just two blocks from our hotel, a handy option for prepared items when you feel like skipping full service restaurants. They have grab-and-go sandwiches as well as custom deli-made sandwiches. I chose grab-and-go mainly because I was tired and was not eager to follow their multi-step deli ordering process. read more

As visitors to Victoria, we found this market clean, well-stocked, and with friendly staff. We got what we needed, including ready-made items we can take back to the hotel to heat up such as pizza etc. A little pricey but convenience makes it all worth it! read more

They have a sandwich shop type deli. It was an upgrade to subway & reasonably priced.

We picked up things for hike and hotel condo food. The quality of the food is very good, great selection of tasty and not-so-full of bad ingredients chips (we picked up 5 bags, when you find something good, get them), a steak, Canadian bacon, pate (the price was amazingly low), bread, butter and fruits. The prices are very good here because a couple of days later and went to a chain grocery store on way back from hiking, where the prices were much higher. The check out line was long, only one cashier. Service as nice. Would definitely come back here again. Love the food. read more

Our building in James Bay isholding a bbq this Saturday and Red Barn in James Bay is helping out with local products. On another note, the fresh Simons meat pies they source from Richmond are probably the best meat pies you can get in Victoria. The tourtiere and steak/mushroom are fantastic and at super reasonable prices. read more

Nice little market everything is displayed very nicely got some sausage rolls but they tasted like german sausage with strange flavors

I was in this market today. Sadly it was Horrible customer service. I do not like to complain however this was completely avoidable and the rude and snarky response I received from the cashier when I politely shared info was so appalling, I've decided to write a review. In line during a busy lunch hour, I watch 4 cashiers open up and allow about 12 people stand in a combined line, which 6 to 8 people left it, walked around to the side and snuck in ahead of the others. I shared with the cashier after waiting politely and watching this all - including a senior couple behind me with mobility issues waiting patiently while several younger people rudely took advantage. Why didn't anyone say anything or have a general line suggested with a sign or arrows on the floor? Simple enough fix if they were consistent. The cashier was rude and snarky "WELL, I can't do anything about it - I only work here. Wait for the Manager if you have to." This set me off. I was polite and calm and did NOT appreciate attitude from this woman - I shared yes, you and your colleagues CAN do something - I worked at a Safeway for years during highschool and university and would politely stop shoppers when opening a til and share, "sir, miss I'm going to take the next shopper in line please". I was polite and never had anything (except a frown or two from the line jumpers) except Thank You!! from the patient polite shoppers. My fellow cashiers saw this and followed suit. I wasn't the owner or the Manager. I simply was polite and fair and offer the same customer service to everyone. I pointed out how her fellow cashiers were behaving. They all just stood there with blank looks on their faces, not caring and providing the minimum amount of care they had to. The cashier continued to be snarky and pointed to a man beside her, he's my supervisor - tell him! I CAN"T do Anything!!! Wow. Again, all of the cashiers just looked down or acted like they were in a trance. The supervisor wouldn't even raise his head to look at me. Sheep in headlights. Some rude young man came up from the back, heard this and being a line jumper on the left - after seeing there were over 10 people behind me - said rudely (as he left behind me) "I think they are doing great!" I shared, well of course you do Sir, as you just budded in front of over 10 people including seniors. Congratulations. The couple behind me gently smiled outside and said thanks for saying something. I find this store consistently unprofessional and down right rude to good customers. I think the 4 cashiers on duty toady on Nov 26, 2019 at 12:30 should be embarrassed by their actions and I hope someone cares enough at this store to improve this. It was a very negative experience and I will NOT go back into a Red Barn again. Shameful behaviour!!! read more
