This is a decent grocery store that has most of what you'd want. The prices seem high, but then, everything is expensive these days. I most want to review the pharmacy in the back. Muhammad, the pharmacist, went out of his way to give me excellent customer service. Stop the Cruelty: End the Lobster Tank at Thrifty Foods I am writing this as a plea and a protest. The lobster tank at Thrifty Foods is not just outdated--it's inhumane. These are sentient, intelligent, sensitive creatures, confined in tiny, barren tanks under bright lights, claw-bound and stacked like commodities. It's a slow, suffocating torture for the sake of what? A handful of sales? It's 2025. We know better. And when we know better, we're supposed to do better. No one should be forced to walk past blatant animal abuse just to pick up a bag of salad. The fish department at Thrifty's has become a place of distress--not just for the lobsters, but for shoppers like myself and my friends who are sickened by this unnecessary cruelty. Based on its name, I thought this place would be more like a 7/11, but its actually a full size 24/7 grocery store. It also has a deli inside that operates late at night. It's honestly a lot like Safeway. Like other reviewers have posted, the service here isn't great, but I didn't find them rude. The only reason I'm giving this place three-stars is because their produce isn't the freshest. I had to search through several different apple varieties to find an apple that wasn't dusty or brown. This place has all the basics, so it's definitely a good option if you're in need of groceries for the week or just need some snacks for a quick vacation in Victoria, like me. read more

The staff and the pharmacists working at Thrifty supermarket are all wonderful and helpful EXCEPT a female nurse (worked on Jan 12 afternoon shift that does Covid vaccine needs more training about safety issue. I was told by her to stay for 5 minutes after receiving the shot but she ordered me to sit outside the narrow hallway in front of the big trolley full of inventories, other trolleys going by also with loads of products plus two employees were busy filling up the shelves. In addition, it is on a Sat afternoon, the place was full of shoppers with shopping carts passing by that tight space. I tried to tell her that there was hardly enough room for me to sit outside and I don't want such a close contact with all the shoppers passing by. She insisted I had to leave because the room was for the next person, in fact her following appointment was 15 minutes apart and I got my shot 10 minutes earlier than scheduled. She was totally unhelpful and inconsiderate and I had received vaccines at that location before but other nurses asked me to sit in that room for 5 minutes. For some reasons this indifferent nurse has very different approaches to patients. I will not recommend anyone to receive any vaccine from that location especially by that specific NURSE! read more

Thrifty's used to feel like an actual Island Market. They've recently started replacing brand products with that garbage Compliments and charge just pennies less than the brand, eventually phasing out the brand version and only offering Compliments. Don't ever buy anything from the Deli counter. I bought $12 worth of lunch meat for my kids for school and expired the following day. I used to feel good about supporting this Island grocer, but now, they've become like a box chain - but a bad version (offering less choice and charging more money). You might as well go to Save On. read more

They told us its was closing in 10 minutes but nothing was posted online or outside the store when my sibling and I were in line to pay , that's when we saw why and when it was closing so early! We thought it was closing at 10 pm but they were closing at 8:30 pm an hour and a half early! I find it unfair that nothing was poste! read more

This is not any reflection of the grocery section of James Bay Thrifty's. I am so upset with the pharmacy. I received my first covid shot back in May. I was told that I would be contacted when I would be eligible for my second shot. Well ten weeks went by and nothing. No phone call, text or email. I decided to ask the pharmacist when I should expect to receive my second shot....this is what I got! "We stopped giving the shots in June as the vaccine had expired. You can register to receive your second shot." First off I wanted to get the Astrazeneca vaccine, which I don't think you can get through the government. Anyway given the circumstances we are living in, and the media telling us to get our second dose and sooner is better...I have nothing good to say about Thrifty's pharmacy. This is appalling customer service and they need to get professional or organized or both. I will be avoiding this place like the plague....every pun intended. read more

We came here while vacationing in Victoria. We found everything we needed (eventually). In the process, however, we asked one of the men working there where we could find some toothpaste. He was rude and unhelpful and directed us to the wrong aisle. I wouldn't come back here unless I have to. It's convenient because it's open 24 hours. Thankfully the cashier was polite, which made the experience less unpleasant. read more

I live across street so I'm here often (only because location),I must say this James Bay Thrifty Foods location has some of the rudest most unhelpful people I've met that work at a grocery store,I believe It is the worst Grocery Store I have ever been to. Not only was I sold expired food - but when I attempted to return the purchase I was told (at 10:25) that one can only do returns between 7am and 1030pm... However the customer service desk had already closed so i was SOL. I was astounded by the attitude and treatment I received from the absolute rudest clerk I've ever encountered. In fact, she may have been the absolute rudest person I've ever encountered. If I were a manager at Thrifty and I heard one of my employees speak to and treat a paying customer in that manner, I wouldn't even take the time to take her back to my office. I'd fire her ass right then and there, in front of dozens of customers. Had I been rude or disrespectful in some manner I could understand it. But that wasn't the case here. I am glad that we found this grocery store after going to several mini grocery stores. The price is okay and we found what we needed when it comes to food, meat, fruits, and vegetables. I would highly recommend this store for people who come to Victoria for a visit just like us! You will get everything you needed for food. It is like safeway except it does not sell alcohol. While visiting Victoria we came here a couple of times. There are plenty of hotels around, & I'm not sure but not only does this store cater to the locals but visitors to the island as well. We found everything we needed & I didn't think anything was overpriced. The parking could be a challenge during the busy times, but unlike the rest of Victoria it was free while shopping. read more
