Later at checkout, Kaoru -- a woman with a bob haircut) -- ignored my question until I repeated it, tossed my receipt at me, didn't bag my items, and walked away when I asked her name, telling me "it wasn't necessary". I also couldn't help but notice I was the only one who looked like me in the store at the time, which made the interaction feel targeted. This was especially disappointing because every other transaction I've had here has been handled with care. As a loyal, long-time customer, I hope Kaoru's attitude improves, because the warmth and professionalism I've consistently received from Kazumi and Tamaki are what make Toho Shoji such a special place.

It felt much like a museum with many fossilized bones, items from the sea, and taxidermied exotic animals, including two lions and an albino peacock. The most expensive items are in glass cases but there is plenty that can be touched and held. I was quite surprised that my husband didn't purchase more that he did while we were there. The people working in the store were friendly and knowledgable and we enjoyed speaking with them. Evolution is definitely worth a stop.

In other words it's totally different and you can't compare the two. They are both worth a visit though I'd give the tiniest edge to Don't Blink since it is so darn friendly and chill there. So Tannens: incredible history and a great selection. Website is up to date and you can order online and pick up in store or have it shipped. Prices were normal but there's a first time 20% off coupon on the website if you sign up and it applied to my whole order. They have a few exclusives but the best is the book You are all Terrible. I didn't realize until I got back to my hotel that the author had autographed it - that's super cool!
