I absolutely adore this chain and spend too much of my monthly paycheck here. They are a seller of both Sonny Angels and Smiskis . They are so hard to find in the city. There are 3 locations. Definitely call ahead to see if they have that you are looking for!! Customer service is excellent. Selection is generally good for most items (some are limited). Attracted by the Monchichi plush she spied in the window, my wife was quite surprised by all of the Monchichi merchandise this store had. She had not seen Monchichi since she was in her early childhood, so it was a pleasant trip for her down memory lane. This store is located on the Rink level of the Rockefeller Center, and carries a decent selection of cute merchandise; including various Sanrio, San-X, and other Japanese kawaii items. Prices are definitely on the higher end, but it's to be expected given the location. We wound up buying a really cute keychain charm for $7 that she keeps attached to her backpack. read more

Who isn't a fan of Kawaii or cartoon related goods?! This place sells unique gifts, knick knacks, plushies, lip balm, soap and even puzzles. Goods ranging from brand name labels such as Sanrio (Gudetama), Tokidoki, Comic Book themed merchandise (think DC/Marvel), Pusheen and even Harry Potter. My kids and I are fans...we always stop in when near Rockefeller Center. We first stumbled upon this company when vacationing in Florida. Given a lot of the merchandise is imported, it was still cheaper to buy it in store than anywhere online. So it was a good way to get these imported goods without having to wait for overseas delivery. I was so excited to find out they opened here in Midtown (West). My most recent two visits resulted in me buying way too much stuff for myself and the kids. We got some flavored lip balms, unicorn themed nail art stickers, a bracelet and a few charms, some Gudetama plushies and pins. There was so much to look at. I think we easily spent 25 minutes in this store just to browse. Everywhere I turned, I was grabbing something off the shelf to buy or to eyeball it further. Such a fun shopping pit stop. There are so many unique things here that you could spend an hour just browsing. I loved the selection of Pusheen, plushes, and pop culture knick nacks. I was in NY for a business trip and was looking for some gifts for my kids. If you're looking for some unique options for toys, this is definitely the place to go. Some of the prices were outrageous, which could be partly because of the store location, but as I was researching prices, there were so many toys that I thought were "unique", especially due to the price tag. When I saw much lower prices online, I gave up looking for items to buy and instead took some pictures of items (to remember to look for them online). My suggestion, if you're visiting NYC with kids, you should stop by after your time at Rockafeller Plaza... but be careful... don't make promises to your children without checking the price first. If you don't have kids, there are plenty of adult gifts and books and odd things to look at, so you should stop by as well! read more

While walking around Manhattan, we came upon this little store. I was not very familiar with the brands of the merchandises in this store, but I was told the designer for this unique gift store is somewhat popular. Not having any idea about this place, I walked into with an open mind and curiosity. My first impression was this is a very hip place. They got so many items on display, its hard to take everything in. You really have to go display by display, isle by isle to really get the idea of different items being sold here. Many of the items are very cute, almost like cartoon characters. You can find things like handbags, picture frames, wall paintings to coffee mugs you name it. They all looked very shinny and pretty, but it's something I probably will not buy it and use it myself. I see it more like something you buy for somebody as gifts. The store is kind of tiny so when they have certainly number of customers in the store, they close the front door until some some customers leave the store. It was cold the night on our visit so luckily we didnt have to wait to go in the store. But on our way out we saw a line already formed outside the store. But I'd still wait 5-10 minutes to get in the sore because its very unique. Even if it was 30 degree outside. read more

I just got a good vibe about this store when I walked in. I've visited the one in Chinatown, but I was the purchaser in command this time and flying solo. Just the experience of shopping in a store in Roc Center has a certain "cache" and "movie feel" to it. For a long term resident, it provides a feeling of "making it.". The tschokes and bags, and toys are just fun. I found a "Keith Haring" tote bag for $15 and there were many more styles to choose from. Overall, just a pleasant diversion on a NYC day. read more

My husband and I usually stop by Pylones in the SoHo location (but now closed); I love checking out their products as it's so quirky and bizarre, but so colorful and cute at the same time. It was founded in France back in 1985, and they have products for the kitchen, the bathroom, the office, for gifts, toys for kids, parties, etc. My favorite is the wind-up chicken kitchen timer and their cute markers/pens that are of all different shapes and sizes. Psst... Sanrio fans/ collectors in Manhattan...check out the Sanrio display at PIQ! PIQ is the only store in midtown (that I know of) that stocks new releases of Sanrio products on a frequent basis. I luckily right across the street from Radio City Hall and am able to frequent the shop. They carry various pens, stationery (memo pads, washi tape), plush toys, and small containers (lunch containers, lunch boxes) featuring Hello Kitty and the Sanrio gang. Every time I come here there seems to be only one employee and he/she is stationed at the cash register. However, my shopping experience is always extremely pleasant and the checkout process is very quick. This is also one of the very few stops in Rockefeller Center that isn't absolutely flooded with tourists, so it is a nice escape from the crowds. read more

I wanted to buy everything in this store. Everything is super cute even the guy that works there is cute. I wanted to take him home! It's such a darling little shop with an owner who obviously have an affection for cuteness. It's filled with unique and wonderful delights from travel accessories to home decorations. My friend bought this fabulous bag on sale which is perfect for traveling. (See picture) I bought a cute messenger bag which I got on sale for $15 bucks! It was $38 originally and was on sale for $18, but I haggled it down to $3 less than the sale price! It was the last one with scuff marks and a store display, so I talked the manager into marking it down. She was awesome! They also have a few grooming accessories, which are on the insufferable end of coolness. Adorable accessories and kitchen products that have borrowed inspiration from cute animals, people and flowers. The products are total attention-grabbers and amazingly, they aren't exorbitantly expensive either. Yeah I got the Yelp Geek badge after checking into PIQ, but I consider PIQ a novelty store and not really Geek. The store always has a cool window display and lots of times with huge posters handing. They have cutesy, fun, interesting, offbeat gift and little trinkets that are great for gifts. They also sell collector editions of some comic books. I come here every few months because by then the have a change over on the items in the store and I wouldn't be looking at the same stuff again. I would say that the stuff they sell are good for souvenirs, gift to the little one and those people who find the odd gift cool. Many times I see curiously cute items here and nowhere else. That staff is cool and open to questions but just remember that you are at Rockefeller Center and the place is crawling with tourist and Yelpers who are standing around and taking pictures. read more

This little novelty shop I ran across on my way to Rockefeller Plaza. It actually has a second entrance inside the Rockefeller center building. I was mesmerized by the dog photos next to NY icons in its mouth so I went inside. You can buy various assortment of these dogs either in plastic tote or even small hang up art. In addition I was impressed by the fact they had rare first edition comic books on display under glass. Most of the other stuff you would find anywhere like adult coloring books. While I was browsing for a gift for my daughter I came across a small booklet that talked about the actual locations mentioned in the musical Hamilton which I was seeing that night. A rare find to add to my collection in that it lists which track(s) an event happened. It is a cute shop and if you look hard you can find something unique and unusual. Okay, so after going to NYC and buying my adorable metallic wallet and then having a quality issue with it (the elastic straps were breaking).... and then emailing customer service to get replacements and being sent those replacements quickly - I must say, impressive business! First off, the store is utterly fantastic when you walk in - oodles of colorful, bright, entertaining gadgets and toys and thinga-ma-bobs... very easy to go from window-shopping to serious shopping in this store: you want to take home everything or at least buy it for your friend. I love these kinds of stores. Add to that that the cashier guy was very up-beat, friendly, talkative and even hooked me up with some freebies.. score! Then the customer service over email to get my replacement was very apologetic and that same day mailed me my replacements. I arrived to the store and there were 2 hello kitty products! A plush and a little back pack! I asked because I figured I was missing the place the store had all the Sanrio products, to my surprise I was told that was it!!! Terrible! Just don't advertise that there's Sanrio products when there's just a couple of things, deceiving. The rest of the store was super cute, lots of Kawaii product though. read more

I have just gotten around to writing a review for this store after my visit there around two weeks ago. First off, the merchandise is almost all the cutest things imaginable. Second, and this is a BIG second, the staff were incredibly kind and helpful, especially Xena. I feel bad that I didn't get the other workers name, but she too was super helpful. They both deserve kudos from their management team. All in all, this store is a must visit if you're into collectibles as they have a great selection, and the staff make visiting a pleasure. read more

If you read the reviews for the Piq location in Grand Central you'll see several which note issues with their return policy and customer service- I had my own bad experience and I won't ever be back. I purchased more than $400 worth of merchandise at Piq. Upon arriving at home I was unhappy to discover 2 of the items I had purchased in-store for $65 were available online for $25. When I attempted to return these two items less than 48 hours later I was denied. The associate informed me that returns on designer toys are not allowed -despite the fact that the return policy posted on their website indicates that returns are allowed within 30 days as long as the item is unopened/undamaged/not one of a kind. I was not told of this difference in return policy during my purchase. When questioned the associate pointed to a small sign which did indeed state designer toys aren't returnable - but unfortunately this sign was not in front of the register! The associate also told me it wouldn't be possible for them to inform customers that these types of items were final sale during the transaction because "they do too many transactions for that to be possible " To add insult to injury the associate informed me that he was pretty sure my item was in the wrong box - how does this happen with a supposedly sealed item? And doesn't this basically make my "collectible" worthless? My complaints were escalated to a manager via telephone. I wasn't actually given an opportunity to speak to the manager directly. The whole experience was surreal - - they have 2 different return policies -I wasn't informed of the policy at the point of sale -they may have sold me an item in the wrong packaging and despite all of this they won't take the item back? Just awful. Watch out! read more

I like some of their products. I especially think the kitchen implements are super cute. However, I am giving this place two stars for two reasons: (1) because much of the merchandise in the store was damaged, old looking or not well packaged, not to mention overpriced, and (2) because the door was being kept wide open to the street even though it was extremely cold outside (I visited the week before Christmas). The retail clerks were wearing scarves and shivering. I asked why the door was open and they told me that management mandates that the door be kept open at all times to welcome shoppers. I can tell you there are few things less welcoming than a store being kept at the temperature of a meat locker, plus windchill. Even if I had been very impressed with the merchandise, my friend and I could not get out of there fast enough because it was so cold. It is also not very welcoming to see store clerks that are being forced to endure uncomfortable conditions for the sake of some utterly absurd theory that an open door will attract customers. If anything, this one factor drove me away far faster than I would have gone otherwise. Fix the stupid door policy, and I may come back. But if I pass this place and the door is wide open, I'm going to pass right on by. read more

Such a cute store. I stopped in since they had a huge hanging poster of a dog that looked like my dog in cartoon form. Initially I had only taken quick glance around before I walked out to go to Top of the Rock next door. However, on my last day of my New York trip and in a desperate last attempt to get souvenirs for my co-workers on my way to a chocolate shop nearby, I walked by and decided to go into PIQ instead. Pretty glad I did because PIQ had so many random and funny things that were 100% souvenir status. I ended up purchasing some cute doggy cartoon notebooks (for female coworkers) as well as some "maybe you touched your genitals" hand sanitizers for the guys. Both genders loved their gifts. Only gripe is it's a tad bit overpriced but oh well, they're souvenirs in NY from a shop on a busy street. read more

None other like it. Stuff you won't find anywhere else. The ordinary is cast as art. My spiel on this store is going to line up pretty well with most of these reviews. The store is a lot of fun to go through (took me about an hour and a half). The style is amazingly similar from item to item but the way art is applied to everyday objects and kitchen utensils and nail clippers is creative and genuinely unique. I've not seen it before. Lots of pretty gifts. This is a great gift store. As you go through the store an amazing thing happens. You see an odd item and someone you know pops into your head! This store must be what the novel, Needful Things, is about. You find something totally random, and you just have to have it! You'll sell your soul for that ice cream scoop with cartoon characters on it, or the crayons in the wooden box with the French words on the outside of it, or the 10"x12" notepad resembling a huge post-it note pad. Cutesy, fun, interesting.. little chachkies great for gifts or retail therapy. Not sure if they were eventually closing the store, or if they just constantly have closeout sales for particular items. This place is right next door to the entrance for Top of the Rock - Rockefeller Center. It'd probably do better in Times Square with the other Needful Things stores that sell Empire State Building pencil sharpeners and Big Apple snow globes and expensive, small decals that say "I [heart] NY." But I digress. The store is filled with things that are along the lines of the Rated G items in Spencers, the new-ish gift item section in Target, or the Skymall magazine. Visited Pylones after a show at Radio City. It's a small boutique like store that has strange items from macaroon coin purses to rude food word search tablecloth. Why did I go into this store, not sure. It was an interesting 10 minutes and quite comical. Wacky items and I suggest you check out the hand sanitizer section on the far wall. It's rather humorous. I didn't purchase anything since everything was on the pricey side. It's a fun stop if you are int the area. read more
