While travelling through Yarmouth, we stayed at the Red Cap Motel & Restaurant. If I could give it a zero star rating, I would. This was quite actually one of the worst places I have ever patronized. Everything from the owner/managers displeasing attitude towards us when we checked in (like she couldn't even be bothered), dirty rooms without amenities available that were posted, to the waitress that couldn't/wouldn't take the time to answer a couple questions about the menu in the dining room. Once we placed our order, we had to remind her to bring us our beverages, and flag her down for condiments. She never came over on her own to check on us, it was as though we were an inconvenience to them all. The service was horrid.
My husband got the Lobster Sauce Poutine ($12.95) and I went with the Seafood Fettuccine ($16.99). Both were very disgusting (I will post some pictures). The lobster sauce was inedible. It was cold, so cold that it didn't even melt the grated mozzarella cheese that it was topped with, and it tasted bland with fake lobster flavoring. Even the texture was off. This whole dish was wasted, and when the waitress took it away, seeing that it was not consumed, she said nothing, didn't even ask if it was good/okay/something wrong/etc. The fettuccine arrived looking okay... until it was pierced by the fork. Now the description reads: Haddock, scallops and lobster sautéed in a white wine cream sauce tossed in fettuccine pasta topped with cheese, broiled and served with garlic bread.... topped with cheese, broiled and served with garlic bread is really the only thing they got right. It was a soupy, oily mess of over cooked pasta. Although it smelled like there was fish in it, I was only able to locate what I believe to be a partial scallop and a stringy bit of a lobster leg (not claw, but small leg). For $16.99, this was yet again, a huge let down.
Maybe they were having an off night (highly doubtful), but my advice: if you like food cooked properly, do not bother to venture into this establishment. We were left to look for a convenience store to buy some snacks. read more
