This place is the best BBQ spot in London Soho area hands down...the BBQ is not authentic Austin, but the rub, moisture, Bark is perfect. The issue is the wood is local vs. Texas Post Oak. Service was phenomenal. Especially since the team was so kind to our dog that we brough. Also - the coffee was outstanding - did not expect a TX BBQ place to have great coffee, but it sure was. The issue I have was the Hot Chicken French Toast. It wasn't really french toast, but more so burger buns w/ butter and tenders on the side. Ideally I was looking for fried chicken very similar to what you'd see w/ chicken & waffles in the States. 2nd day in England and we have been following this establishment on Instagram. It was an absolute must for a quick vacay in London. The drive was about 20 mins from where we were staying but so worth the drive. We got there were seated right away and I ordered a barbecue burger and fries. The dining area has a great bar feel with great music choices and dim lights. There's a full bar and the surrounding areas has a variety of clubs and bars that people can check out after. The burger was so delicious the meat was seasoned with so many flavors and the brisket was so good. Definitely one of the best burgers I have ever had!!! For me the choice of the main was default: let's check their BBQ pulled pork sandwich. So far my expectations were set really high after Brixton's The Joint and Bodeans in Soho, earlier this week. As it happened, the sandwich served in Red Dog was the worst of the trio. It wasn't very meaty, splices of pork were hidden inside the large bun and you had to dig through the first few bites to actually enjoy the taste. Sauce - what sauce?! I had to poor a pint of some watery mud from the plastic bottles laying on the table (they are labelled with some fancy names, "Kentucky Spice" or something similar, but don't be fooled, it's probably ketchup mixed with some more vinegar). I just came back to have dinner here and I have to say that the service we received was different from last ime. There has been a huge improvement. Food is awesome; I have no problem with that. Lately it was just the service; but tonight was different. We were served by a lovely lady; she was so helpful and patient with all the tables. American food was trending heavily in London a few years ago, and it definitely feels like RDS was there to ride the wave in order to warrant its popularity and number of branches. I've heard generally positive things about it so was happy to meet a few friends here for the food and to give it a test. Don't. Mediocrity upon mediocrity, everything here was average to bad - made worse by the fact that it's expensive for what it is. Chicken Wings - average to ok, with nothing special to distinguish them Fried Chicken - tasted like KFC...made me want KFC instead. Still, probably one of the better dishes on the menu as it comes with two sides St Louis Ribs - terrible. Almost tasteless. One of the most expensive items but not worth it in anyway. Also, their Friday deal of £11? It's because they give you a smaller portion - you probably lose out by getting this deal instead of ordering it straight up with sides. Brisket - ok. Nothing special Onion Rings - bad. Had to send them back to ask them to cook it more as the first batch were undercooked and didn't taste like onion. The next set were improved but their recipe just sucks. Fries - worse than oven chips. Seriously. Macaroni Cheese - Didn't taste much like cheese. "Tender Broccoli" - wasn't very tender. Wasn't very good. Banana Split - if you like artificial tasting ice cream you'll love this. Otherwise meh. Mississippi Mud Pie - Looked like a pile of slop but tasted ok. Overall: The food here is not very good and will make you pay a hefty amount for it. The service was REALLY slow, albeit fairly friendly and eager to help when we raised any issues. All I can say is that there are PLENTY of other places in London that offer good American/BBQ food at much better prices. Red Dog... I'll be back, oh yes I'll be back, I shall forgoe lunch this time however so that I am better prepared for the devastator... I love american bbq style food, it's full of flavour and that's what Red Dog delivers. I'd seen that they have a 'challenge' where you have to eat the Devastator, fries and milkshake... in 10 minutes and you get it for free if you manage it I love food, I like to take my time and enjoy what I'm eating... I don't get why you'd ruin it with a challenge that would potentially make you sick, so I didn't do the challenge, I did order the burger n fries though. The fries are tasty and well seasoned The Devastator, my my what meat taste sensation it is. 3 burgers, cheese n bacon to compliment them, and topped with 200g of pulled pork... good lord the pulled pork is nice even with my non-challenge unlimited time, I still couldn't finish the burger and left a fair wodge of my chips so was quite dissapointed in myself :) just means I'll have to go back for a round two. My friend had the chicken, fries and mozerella sticks, he was pretty happy with it all. I was not impressed. This place did nothing to placate my opinion of Shoreditch and Hoxton. Whilst my friends really enjoyed their burgers, the wings I had were really bad. I went for the mixed wing platter and none of them were nice. You could also tell the meat wasn't well prepared just by looking at it... And if the hot wings they come on the platter are the same as the ones you get in the hot wing challenge, well... They weren't really very hot at all. I have to admit I am a bit of a sucker for a cool burger joint name so Red Dog Saloon sounded promising. While the service was friendly it was quite slow as the informed us they had just had a power cut and they did discourage one of my friends from trying the spicy wing challenge. Even if that was probably for her own sake she does love a good spicy meal so I would have liked to see her try. Anyway, the burger itself was quite tasty, however the bottom bun was so moist from all the cheese and whatever liquids a burger has that is was impossible to pick up. I had to use a knife and fork to eat it and for me that's not the best sign for a burger. Some of my friends' burgers were the same so it's safe to say that was not a one time incident. Positives: + Buffalo wings were very good + Good selection of beers + The burger meat was moist and not overcooked. I enjoyed it + No complaints about service + I liked the atmosphere On the other hand.... - I feel its a little pricey for what it is. I ended up with a £40+ bill which consisted of half a wing sampler (starter), fries, devastator burger and 2 beers. To be fair if I'd got a smaller burger it would have been £10-12 cheaper but even a regular burger, fries and drink would be £15+ before tip. - My co-diner didn't enjoy their brisket, and I trust their judgement on food matters - Whilst I enjoyed the burger, it wasn't at the level of Meatmarket or 5 guys - The homemade spicy sauces were really watery - Was the mystery sauce in a little tub for my fries or my burger? not sure it added anything, not sure what it was.... Overall: I intend to go back here, mostly to actually attempt one of the challenges, but if I'm just in the mood for a good burger I'll head somewhere else. read more

We ordered beers and enjoyed our fantastic burgers!! Francesco was our waiter tonight and he made sure that we are happy and enjoying our night. We were so happy and satisfied with how polite he was, smiley and effective in his service. HOWEVER... Although most of the stuff we're happy and polite, the young female front of house was rude and did not make an effort to smile or be nice at all. She was not enjoying being at work and that was obvious!! Thankfully Francesco was there to make sure that we had what we need. Really nice place to eat, busy but seating outside is great... attentive staff and great food BUT nothing out of the ordinary- to me! Although I like to think of myself as a staunch patriot I have to admit the American's know how to do meat. While a British BBQ typically involves luke warm sausages and a couple of dry burgers the yanks create food handed down to them by some sort of meat god. As a result I have been hitting the american bbqs and diners and hitting them hard and after spending many happy lunches in bodeans and the various diners I came across red dog. A lot cheerier than the others and in a good location I was ready to add a stone of extra meat. The place was quiet which wasn't great for the atmosphere but the service was good as a result. It was around 3pm so can't complain. The best thing places like this can offer is a cheap way to try everything, unless you have a real craving for one thing then you want to try everything. The wings were good but i've never been a real chicken person but the ribs were just awesome. Crispy, tasty outside, fell off the bone but still felt substantial in the mouth. Man, they were good ribs. The pulled pork was pretty amazing too, they do pork well obviously. Had the small burger afterwards which was good for £6, better than burger chain restaurants and was a nice finish. Having three animals in one sitting made me feel like a roman emperor. Didn't feel for desert and had to be elsewhere so drinking was off the cards but they had beers both on tap and in bottles which is far too rare. On draught they had a couple of standard numbers like amstel but also the camden brewery beer which has been popping up around London which is pretty tasty. The bottles were all american and I was impressed by the selection. As much as I love American it's never going to be blow my mind good but this was very, very good. Would like to go there on a night out so I can drink but dancing afterwards could be challange. They had a downstairs for music which I was told would be up and running regularly, that would make it pretty good. I had fun and I'll go again, what more can you ask for? read more

This is going to read less a review, but more a post-mission debrief from a wartorn battleground; a meaty, delicious battleground, where the fork is your rifle and the near-1kg Devastator Burger your enemy. So let us set the scene; an unusually mild Wednesday evening in London's Hoxton Square. Long time hangout of East London's hipsters and scene of many a summer's evening spent sipping on lukewarm Strongbow, tucked away in one corner stands a bastian for the growing number of Britain's competitive eating fraternity; the Red Dog Saloon. From the cool American Blues BBQ interior, to the All-American style smiling greeters waiting for you when you first enter, Red Dog nails that authentic diner style vibe. The Polaroid's stuck on the 'Wall of Flame' and the 'Book of Heroes', filled with those brave souls who beat the Hot Wing or Devastator challenges, add to that feeling that this is an experience straight out of Man vs. Food, a show that owner Tom Bert clearly takes inspiration from. And so on to the food; eight young men entered, and of those four ordered the Devastator Burger, a behemoth of a burger weighing in at over 3,000 calories and containing no less than three beef patties, six bacon rashers, six slices of cheese AND a handfull of pulled pork to boot. Of those four, only one, yours truely, was foolhardy enough to attempt the 'Devastator Challenge' offered with the burger. The rules, simple; eat the burger, a side of fries and drink an entire milkshake within the time limit. The limit, you ask? 30 minutes? 20 minutes? Oh no. Ten minutes; a mere 600 seconds between you and glory. The timer was started, and we were off. And that is as glorious as this story gets. Ten minutes was too short by half; the burger was gone, but the fries lay intact and the milkshake without a dent. This brave hero was felled by the Challenge; but in that I take no shame. The burgers at Red Dog are delicious, the pulled pork a particular highlight. The beer selection is limited but delightfully Anchor Steam is available on tap, a rarity in London, and the milkshake was as delicious as it was painful to drink. If you like beer, meat and a lively atmosphere, you will love the Red Dog. Just be wary of the challenges on offer; the Wall of Flame is reserved only for the truly elite. read more

Yes I'm a fan. But having spent a decent amount of time Stateside, and being a beer drinking male who likes a burger, this is no surprise. What is surprising is how good their wings are. Wings are often overlooked. Some other places think that just bringing them out to you in a basket will get them past the post. Not here; they're delicious. And I enjoyed my burger too. You can get better patties elsewhere, sure, but for variety of toppings and combined with the atmosphere, it's a winner for me. I had the Reuben burger. So, I'll preface this review with a bit of a caveat: I went here during the (seemingly endless) period when the smoker wasn't working. I will go back at some point to give it another go. BUT I was fairly unimpressed by the food that they did have on offer. Mediocre chicken wings, unexciting fries, just plain bad macaroni and cheese, and a reasonably dull-looking menu (and that's coming from a massive fan of US comfort food). Despite that, I probably will go back, because I've not yet found a place that does decent US-style barbecue and that is a major hole in my life here. They're really proud of their milkshakes, which were above average if not exactly mind blowing. They do have a great selection of beers, so definite plus points there. read more

God I love this place, the chicken wings are THE BEST in London. I have not found better yet. They are crispy on the outside, succulent inside and covered in a sauce that if I believed in a god, would be made from his own recipe. I'm of course referring to the original buffalo but the bbq are good too. The pulled pork is great, ribs good and the burnt end sandwich is mdhebahudb. Oh sorrryyy dribbleded on my phine keyboard not working. No honestly this place is so tasty it makes me feel so happy inside just thinking about it. The only downside is that it gets so busy they need to expand as often have to wait ages for a table. And good luck trying to book it needs well over a week in advance to get a table on a weekend. Ooh, Chicken wings washed down with margarita's! One of my favourite things! This is a North American restaurant, serving up WINGS!! Pulled pork, burgers, ribs, chips, the usual American sides (Mac & Cheese, coleslaw, beans etc) & American style salads (caesar, walnut & blue cheese etc). The great thing about this place is the smoker, they smoke the meat for AGES so it is tender, juicy & Oh so tasty! You can order 50 chicken wings! they also have a hot wing challenge - with nado chilli's - get your face on the wall of fame or the wall of shame! They also serve pitchers of beer & pitchers of Margarita's!! Price is reasonable. Lots of seating - upstairs & down. Small area for small bands downstairs. The smoker was broken. The smoker had been broken for at least a week. A BBQ joint whose entire schtick relies upon smoked meat didn't have a smoker. I say this just to, you know, ensure you that the absence of smoked BBQ at a smoked BBQ joint did not escape me. Otherwise, Red Dog Saloon had great potential. The interior with its abundance of wood, booth seating and casually dressed servers hit all the right American-BBQ-joint notes. The blackboard of the day's specials, the pitchers of draft beer, the rowdy and lively atmosphere created by the after-work crowd partaking liberally in the pitchers of draft beer - it all felt legit. But, again, no smoker. But, then again, I am a vegetarian, so does that matter? Yes. Yes it does matter. Because I go to smoked BBQ places so that my dining companions can partake in smoked BBQ. And when there's no smoked BBQ for them to try, I am disappointed by proxy. That said, Red Dog Saloon's rendition of mac & cheese was certainly better than any I've had elsewhere in London, and the sweet potato, avocado, and feta salad I got to accompany it was delicious and oily - a fattening delight. My companion enjoyed his 'Punisher' burger, which came with pulled pork (presumably not smoked as it would have been otherwise), but it wasn't particularly special. The fries? Those were fantastic. Probably because they were covered in salt. But fantastic nonetheless. The spicy chicken wings are supposedly very good, and I saw plates and plates of them coming out to the hoards of men drinking their aforementioned pitchers of beer. So maybe that's what Red Dog Saloon is all about for the time being: pitchers of beer and hot wings. The gorgeous Linzi M. and I were pottering around Shoreditch and hankering for some north american-style treats, and she suggested we hit up Red Dog. The problem with Linzi and I hanging out is that we're both enablers. Every time I hangout with her, I usually want to die afterwards from sheer stomach pain. We ate SO much. Must have been an interesting sight for onlookers. So, yes, the food. Glorious, glorious american good. It did not disappoint at Red Dog. Our massive smorgasbord included (but was not limited to): Pulled pork sandwiches, onion rings, root beer floats, mac n' cheese with bacon AND milkshakes. Yes, I was in heaven. My only complaint? This place was cute. Easy to find. Loud music and lotsa food challenges going on throughout the night resulting in Polaroids in the wall of fame or shame and free food. The drinks were a bit expensive for my liking considering the cocktails weren't the best and the device was iffy at best. When they did serve us they were lively but we had our plates on our table a full 45 minutes after we had all finished eating. Had ribs, burgers, macaroni cheese and fries between us and we all had a thumbs up at the portion size. We all gave a 6 to the ribs yummy and a 10 to the burgers. Also the brownie is amazing. We came here to do the Hot Wing Challenge. And honestly, there was a severe case of chickening out. I was sick! I couldn't eat a ridiculous amount of hot food as my nose was already not doing well. And also I observed someone else do it while I was waiting for a table, and it was not a pretty sight. Not at all. Perhaps more liquid courage next time... But we had dinner anyway. We did try some of the regular buffalo wings and some of the spicy mustard wings. They were decent, but kinda lacking for me. I went for the spicy burger. There was a good amount of heat in it when I got to the habanero peppers, but it wasn't that great. The patty itself was lacking in flavor and the bun was really crumbly and fell apart. The meaty beans were good, but the chips were pretty terrible. As a plus, they do have unsweetened ice tea which, as an American, I fully support. They did have a rather crappy selection of hipster beers on tap though. Which as a non-hipster-beer drinker, I wasn't a big fan of. The service was pretty good though, so that was a plus as well. So yeah, it's a fairly average Americana style restaurant. I wasn't overwhelmed by anything. The few barbeque sauces I tried on my fries were a bit lackluster as well. (Saw someone doing this - probably ended up with him going home alone). Perhaps not the most legitimate of reviews as I had rallied a few co workers to eagerly attempt this challenge! We had been beating our chests like small primates, talking trash, intimidating one another for.....two months just for this challenge. The Devastator comprises of - 500ml of milkshake (Vanilla for me), a bowl of crispy fries, and the burger (3 patties, 6 bacon slices, 6 slices of cheese, salad, tomato and incredible sauce)...So the crowd I went with - 5 men, 5 devastator's and 1 victor. Luckily, perhaps not so luckily, I managed to eat the The Devastator under 10 minutes (the challenge) and won. The unfortunate part - I wasn't truly able to appreciate the delicacy of the burger. The burger itself was extremely tender - much better than I had expected - perhaps a waste to eat it all in sub ten minutes! I will come here again with my fellow friends at some point! My father and mother were joking about coming here to share the burger....but not to race. I am slightly worried about their proposal as they are quite the fearsome foodies too. This place is amazing. Let's start with service. Greeted by a rather large but friendly chap who leads us to the hostess station. The hostess is a friendly, squared away young lady who immediately takes our drink orders. We tell her that we are hungry and she puts in our buffalo chicken wings order. We order a pitcher of local pale ale. The beer was good.....and plentiful. We paid 13.90 for a very large pitcher. Then we ordered our meals. I had the Rib dinner with barbecue beans. My travel companions had a hamburger topped with pulled pork and all the fixins, the other a massive pulled chicken sandwich. These entrees were all off the charts. The ribs were rubbed with secret spices, the hamburger, a masterpiece and the pulled chicken sandwich was very tasty. We ordered a key lime pie. The crust was "dusty" and the pie itself lacked the lime zing. Good try though mate! The people are friendly and welcoming, the food, excellent, the beer, well, you can't mess that up! Well worth a visit! Just to let you know, this is a British restaurant that serves American Barbecue. Smoker, the whole nine yards. When I rate the food excellent, there is no qualification like "great barbecue for a British joint". Stopped in after a really bad experience at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen. Looked pretty interesting the decor is very American Blues BBQ. Music was pretty authentic too. Staff was very friendly, especially compared to my experience at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen. Beer selection was a little limited and I ordered the ribs and pulled pork. Now, I live in the South US and I know BBQ. This was adequate, not great, but not bad. They really need to work on the seasoning of the pulled pork, it was pretty bland. I had heard strong recommendations about this place as the ideal location for some homestyle comfort food (being that I recently moved from America), so I decided to check it out and celebrate my birthday with my nearest and dearest. Naturally I went with the Californian burger, which was fairly succulent and juicy. I can't say that California has some "niche" taste, but I suppose the avocado and bacon pairing comes close. I would however recommend adding spicy pepper jack cheese to the burger to give it a kick as the burger tasted mildly bland. Definitely trying the ribs next time as they appear to be quite the hype. Last year I went to America for the first time, but this is still the best burger I've ever had. I have 2 Americans and 1 Canadian to support me in this claim, so I think it's legit. There are 2 restaurants here - the main one has more of a dive bar feel to it, and the other (round the corner) has a fast food, American diner kind of vibe. I like them both, but the main restaurant is a bit warmer. I'm a massive fan of burgers, and have tried quite a few places in London that are known for their burgers. In my opinion, there are essentially 2 kinds of burger - a thick home-made style patty (think Gourmet Burger Kitchen for a mainstream example) or a dirty burger (think McDonald's but with good ingredients). I'm a fan of the latter. And that's what Red Dog does so well. Last night, on my fourth or fifth visit to the joint, 3 of us went in and ordered 3 burgers with fries & onion rings, and a pitcher of beer. The service is swift! All up, I think we were in and out in about 20-30 minutes. You can take your time if you like, but this was just 3 lads on a very simple mission. I had been before, but my colleagues were novices. Not impressed. Went there with 2 friends on a Sunday night. Here the details but if you only have a second just take this away: I will not return! First, we got seated by the loo even though we booked a while ago. Second, we ordered a pitcher with a cocktail. Bear in mind this should be better value for money - it is not in this place! We had to send the drink back as it tasted disgusting. Cheap tequila and watery icecubes basically. The second attempt was a little better. Food - First of all my he got my order wrong. Mistakes happen so let's not dwell on that one. We all ordered the combo dishes - ribs and some other meat with 2 sides. I had mac&cheese. They must have come from a packet! Strange powdery mixture. The clowslaw was edible but not great. The meat itself had no taste at all unless you chuck a litre of their sauce on top. The prices are horrendous. I would accept to pay it if the food and drinks were of good quality but this is not the case so I felt ribbed off. Not coming back thats for sure. read more

If you to be in a food coma for days then this is a venue to visit. Chicken wings tdf! And the double trouble is a delight but will leave you opening your top button. Nice cocktails and service, the only thing to mark this down on was the fact they took my bank card like I was a criminal and homeless men kept asking me for spare change. I am obsessed with the real Mexican/ American buffalo wings~ lol I cannot tell the orgin anymore. So today me and my mate ordered 16 buffalo wings, I like the original best! anyways, it would be better if they can make the sauce ... more in the way, i can lick my finger afterwards. the wings can be a biggerrrr. The pulled pork was quite sweet and savoury, dipped along the barbecue sauce and the sweet and sour sauce. Mac and Cheese is mac and cheese, I want to see more creaminess in it. maybe a few bacon bits on top will help. For drinks, the milkshake is gigantic! I love the milkshake, Their long island ice tea is also refreshing as well. read more

I was looking forward to visiting the RDS after following on instagram. The rockabilly music playing in the background was a awesome welcome sound. I started with the Buffalo Wings which were to my surprise nice heat with a good size wing. The single Bacon Burger was very tasty and well sized to a American burger. read more
