They're very small samples, so don't get the idea you can come here and start taking free shots! I don't really think anyone would do this, but I feel inclined to tell you. The customer service associate was super nice and helpful with our visit. Generally, my husband and I just wander and help ourselves to check out different selections that various liquor stores have to offer, but since we got to try a couple of options for tequila, we interacted with him. My husband was searching all over town for a specific sweet vermouth (Cocchi di Torino) for his Negroni's, and kept coming back dry (pun intended). We were running errands nearby and found we were close to this liquor store, so he called to see if they supplied it. The associate over the phone was jovial and more than happy to help. They had what he wanted and even reserved a bottle at the counter so it could be ready when we arrived. Victory! Of course when walking in, we could not limit ourselves to only purchasing the one thing we needed, and perused the store taking in more of what we wanted. We were immediately tended to by "Spaz," who was delightfully chatty and knowledgeable. Red Dog's selection is incredible. I particularly noticed their extensive scotch whiskey selection. One of my husband's favorite scotch whiskey is Laphroaig. I have only ever seen 3 varieties of it, but here they had 5! In addition to spirits, they have a growler station for beers on tap and various food items (frozen pizzas from a local pizza joint, appetizer type snacks, frozen desserts, and frozen meats to name a few). They offer quite the spread! The topper to it all, I found their prices on some items a few bucks cheaper than what I've seen elsewhere. Without a doubt, this is our new spot. read more

COVID-19 REVIEW After the 8th attempt (day traders, take note of the market spike here), I was able to break through the busy phone lines at Red Dog and my call was answered by a helpful staff member who guided me through my curbside pickup choices. I decided on an old standby of Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale, a 4-pack of Bearded Iris's Attention Please IPA and chose a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc for the missus. We settled the bill and I made a dash for Red Dog. As I pulled up to the curb of the liquor store, a man peeked out of the front door with a bandana wrapped around his face. Normally, my level of situational awareness would reach new heights under these conditions. The pandemic crisis, however, adds a new dimension to our everyday expectations. Fortunately, no shots were fired and the masked man kindly loaded our order into the vehicle. Thank you to Red Dog and staff for staying open during this crisis and doing your best to keep yourselves and your customers safe. Stopped by when passing through Franklin for a dinner party and was tasked to bring a few bottles of wine. Chose to stop by Red Dog because of the Yelp check in 10% off offer! Location, I was following Google Maps (not a Franklin local) and GPS didn't know where it was taking me. Slightly lost, but it took me to the general area. I was going to give up and go to Publix for wine since I was on a time crunch. The store is on the same strip as Publix! Staff, didn't acknowledge me at first and I aimlessly walked through the aisles finding specific wines on my list. They didn't have what I wanted, but offered similar alternatives. Overall they were helpful and the alternatives were okay. Selection, they offer an array of beers, liquors, and wine. They also do tastings at the shop. read more

Red Dog is probably my favorite liquor store in the area right now. The owner is a really personable guy and the employees are nice as well. All of them I've talked to seemed earnest and knowledgeable. Granted, not all of them are super whiskey nerds but at least a couple of them are and that's more than most stores can say. I'm not a scotch guy but I've been told by my scotch buddies that this store has one of the best scotch selections around. Personally I'm more of a bourbon dork and this store can be counted on to have all of the staples and also the occasional rare allocated item. Over the last year I've noticed they have been doing more and more whiskey barrel programs lately - as of the time of this writing they had hand selected barrels of Four Roses, Elijah Craig, and Corsair Triple Smoke (at cask strength!). That's the true sign of a shop in the upper echelon by my standards. As for prices, I would say they are about average with the area. Here's the thing though - if you sign up for their rewards program you earn discounts of 10% off purchases. You don't even have to carry a rewards card, just plug the membership number into a smartphone app like keychain or just give them your name when you checkout. Even better, if you check in on Yelp you can get the 10% discount as well. Take that into account and their prices will always be lower than everyone else. Update: Upgrading to five stars because this store continues impress me with their customer loyalty. read more

It is well-worth the trip down from Nashville, especially if you are interested in independent bottlings of scotch, of which they have several for sale. Red Dog is one of the best places you'll find in the area. They have a great selection of wines and spirits, but I mainly go for their beers. Their ever-growing selection of beers is among the best I've found. They offer a wide variety of local brews, as well as so many craft beers from all over. There is a growler station as well. The staff is amazing!! Always helpful and VERY knowledgeable about their products. I have asked for recommendations on several occasions, and they have never steered me wrong. In fact, I found an amazing Pinot Grigio based on a staff recommendation. Plus, it was one of the least expensive wines in the section. Asked the gentleman stocking the shelves if they might by chance have any Blanton's in the back or any other hard to find bourbons. He said "no and if we did they would go to the bourbon club" and continued stocking the shelves. He didn't bother asking me what he liked to drink, if we were interested in joining the bourbon club or even what the bourbon club was, or recommending any other bourbons that he might like. They also have great tastings that are very fun and informational. They have case discounts and senior discounts and at one point were discounting if you brought in a same-day grocery store receipt. Great selection and reasonable prices in a charming little store. The floors are hardwood, the staff is friendly, and you will likely see a golden retriever laying around in some corner of the store. This is a cozy little place to buy your provisions without having to deal with Cool Springs. It is conveniently located right next to Publix, so you can pull one of those, "well, since I'm already here I might as well go in and look". The wine selection is good and the staff is knowledgeable if you have any questions. They are known for Scotch and have quite a few to choose from. I found some great tequila prices here too. Their newest endeavor brings them into the world of beer. I love the selection. One of the beers I really missed from New York was Ommegang from Cooperstown. Their Rare Vos is an amazing Belgian White that is flavorful and delicate. This is the only place so far that I have found in Nashville that carries this product.
