We celebrated a friend's birthday at Red Door's Game Night experience, and it was an excellent choice for someone who grew up loving game shows! The whole experience was incredibly interactive, and our host did a fantastic job keeping the energy high from the start. The games pulled inspiration from classics like Wheel of Fortune, The Price Is Right, and more, which made it easy for everyone to jump in and have fun. Our team went head-to-head against the birthday girl's team, and despite putting up a good fight, we lost!? The other team earned it though. They got a photo with the big trophy, while the rest of us got to pose with the smaller one. This is a really good idea for a team building event! It really helps to see how each person works to solve problems individually and how you solve problems together. We came with our company and it was so much fun! It's located across from JC Penny on the trolley side. They have quite a few different rooms you can choose from with different difficulty levels. You can book rooms ahead of time which is nice. We chose to do the borderlands one. It was my first escape so I wasn't sure what to expect. Once you start to get the wheels turning , we were cranking through the riddles. We escaped with one minute to spare! We'll definitely be back to check out the other rooms read more

I am BLOWN AWAY by how well-designed the escape room was. My husband, our 2 year old and our friend did "The Gift". Not knowing the difficulty level, we managed to solve it with 1:08 left on the time. Yes, we used our hints, but more towards the end when we were like O_O This escape room had three decent sized rooms within it and all the puzzles were so well-crafted and thought out. I've done a few escape rooms prior to this and this one is my favorite from top to bottom. What made me enjoy this even more was that our 2 year old was allowed to participate (free of charge) and he had a blast running around with the flashlights we found. Made reservations 3 weeks prior online for a Sunday afternoon. Went with three 9 year olds to celebrate an upcoming birthday. Arrived and was greeted immediately by friendly people at the front desk. Was sent down the elevator to meet our game master. There were 4 unisex, single, clean restrooms we could use in the lounge. I put away my stuff in a secure locker. Water is allowed in the room and I was permitted to bring my cell phone since I had 3 kids with me, as long as I did not take pictures/videos. We were then taken to an area to hear instructions and the storyline of the escape room, Once Upon A Time. In the awesome escape room, we found clues, made some connections, but got stuck sometimes. We got plenty of hints when we requested and a couple of times we were provided hints even when we didn't ask but the game master could tell we were stuck and spinning wheels. Great teamwork by all. We didn't end up solving it all in the allocated 1 hour. They did not share with us the rest of the puzzle so we can try again another time. The kids had lots of fun. We felt safe and supported well throughout our time together in the escape room. I highly recommend!!! Conveniently located in Fashion Valley Mall by JCPenney and adjacent to a parking lot. read more

Red Door Escape Room is located in the Fashion Valley mall and located next to the JCPenney. I had made a reservation online and paid in advance. On the actual day, some things came up and I needed to move the appointment back. The staff was very understanding and made reschedule the appointment to the next available time for that day. Upon arriving, we did need to fill out a waiver. And of course watched an introduction before we got started. There are restroom instead in case you need to go before getting in the room. There's also lockers if you need a place to leave your belongings. My friend and I did the Captain Maincal's Lair-Bratorium theme, which was a 30-minute escape room. We thought it was easy and were able to complete it earlier than the expected time. read more

Tried out the Fair Game room, which is carnival themed, with my family a couple months ago and had a blast! It was all our first time doing an escape room at this location and the first time ever doing an escape room for 2 of the members in our party, and we got out with time to spare. I highly suggest having all in your party sign their waivers ahead of time as it saves time for check-in and it gets you into the room faster. Our family of 3 had a great first ever escape room experience! We went with two adults and a second grader and picked the "Once Upon A Time" room based on the staff's recommendation. It was actually 3 rooms in one and was surprisingly challenging! Thankfully, we had a lovely guide, Claudia, who gave us helpful hints along the way. One tip for first timers: ask for a hint earlier than you think! It will make the initial experience more enjoyable. Claudia was also a wonderful cheerleader. First time in San Diego and saw this escape room doing a quick Google search of escape rooms. Booked the night before with no issues. Def a pricey escape room, almost $87 for 2 people. But it was worth it! Super nice and clean inside, we got there early and they were able to even start our room earlier. Theres giant checkers to play while you wait. Maria, our game master was amazing! Incredibly kind, personable, and attentive. She made the experience all the more enjoyable. We did the Prison Break room which is definitely possible to escape with 2 people. We had 7 minutes to spare! Super thematic on the inside. It didn't look like items were breaking down and old and used like many other escape rooms. I was very impressed! When I come back to San Diego, I'll definitely be back to Red Door. read more

While we've always enjoyed their Escape Rooms but the Game Show experience is pretty lame. They play like 6-7 minutes of a decent game followed by Rock, Scissors, Paper. Super lame. Not once but twice during the hour long session. Complete waste of time. They have a Plinko (sp?) board that operates like it was made in someone's garage. Plinko pieces fall to the ground. Again, it's a time suck and useless. There was one "game" where contestants on each side sing karaoke and are judged by the Emcee that wastes another 10 minutes. Is this a game show or a contest? The hour managed to drag on in boredom. While very little time is spent playing actual games. Don't waste your time on this. It's pretty disappointing and extremely cringy. read more

Three rooms with multiple puzzles in each, some of which carry forward to the next. Definitely recommend for corporate team building. I think I'd even pay to do another one out-of-pocket sometime. We went for our second time to do the confinement room, it was well thought out and had a great theme. With a party of five we did have enough people to do the puzzles comfortably, usually two or three people would help out with one puzzle while the remaining people worked on another one.
