Have had nothing but good service from Red Dot Arms. Very friendly people meet you when you first walk in and the staff is very respectful and knowledgeable. Great selection of "whatever items" you need from their shop in the back, and a gunsmith who has about a week turnaround for your special gun specific needs. I have been ordering my items online and having them shipped to Red Dot for a number of times, and each time they have been all very court and friendly. Paperwork is filled out, and approval comes back, and since I ordered it online, and purchased it then, by the time it ships (takes about three days if not more to send via UPS) I don't have to wait an additional 3 days. If you're looking for a place to shoot and rent guns, this is NOT the place. I wish I knew prior to going because I lived a bit far from here. I was informed that they didn't have a shooting range for the public and it was only open to the private classes you take here. The employee that talked to me was helpful. Will never do business with. Extremely rude and not customer friendly. Asked for a refund for ammo.m that was never delivered which they would sell again. No doubt. Returns the ammo and charges 20% restocking fee. For what? Leaving the ammo on the shelf, or stocking it when it comes in like they normally would? Unfortunately, because these guys are talking to someone whom works with many in law enforcement, and firearm educators, word of mouth will get out fast. In this crazy society that we are all doing our best to navigate the ever changing way of life that we at one time took for granted, some purchases such as firearms in northern Illinois are next to impossible. Thanks to the internet, Illinois residents can still purchase firearms if they have them shipped to a licensed FFL dealer like RDA. I chose RDA for my first handgun purchase because they were near my home, I used them again because of the outstanding service. The men and women that I have had to deal with at RDA have all been friendly and knowledgeable. But one person in particular, Jarred, is by far the best of the best. He has over the top customer service skills and is extremely patient and friendly. Even though I am moving out of the area, I will still continue to go to RDA because of their service. read more

Most of the staff is pleasant and knowledgeable. However, Do not try and trade in a Gun here, they will not give you what's it's worth. A very disrespectful, arrogant and sarcastic young man offered me 200.00 for a Colt 380. Another shop in the area gave me 325.00 on the spot. Also, the price on the glock I wanted to buy was 80.00 higher than the other shop. I will not shop here. read more

I want to like this place, and generally speaking I've had a good experience here, however i had one HORRIBLE experience that can't be forgiven. Gun stores in IL aren't easy to come by so Red Dot was a nice discovery. I bought my first gun here. Transaction was smooth and there was no issue. The problem arose when I brought an AR15 in for service. I brought in my gun to have a free floating hand guard and a new gas block put on. I dropped it off the week before my honeymoon in october. 5 days later i get a voicemail from their smith saying that the barrel nut was over-torqued and when he was trying to get it off, he cracked my receiver. On top of that, they were unwilling to pay for a new receiver, they wanted me to pay 50% of the cost of a new one. "Thats fair" they said. This is the same as going to a mechanic to install a turbo and in the process they crack your fully functioning radiator, then want to charge you to fix it. I was not a happy camper. After I got back, I spoke with three different people to protest this, and no one ever budged. I decided if it truly was a defect that led to this, the manufacturer would replace it. Red Dot sent my gun off to bushmaster. Not that this is Red Dots fault, but Bushmaster was severely backlogged. I didnt get my gun back until February, about 5 months later. On top of that, they still charged me half of the bill from bushmaster. I will never buy another gun from there, nor will i ever take a gun there to get fixed. One of the worst customer service experiences of my life. read more

I went into Red Dot looking to purchase my first gun. I had my heart set on a particular firearm. Said gun was happily shown to me, I was allowed to hold it and pretend to fire. While my wishes were listened too, and respected, the salesman was encouraging me to look into other options. I am so glad he did! While I had had my heart set on one specific firearm, I am so happy with my purchase. I was shown that while the particular gun I had wanted was in fact a great gun - it was not a great one for a beginner. He not only explained why, but he showed me. I was introduced to a more appropriate firearm to begin shooting with, and left confident with my purchase. There was absolutely no pressure on me to purchase anything, and the men working had a great answer to every single question I asked. I rarely purchase ammo but with nothing to do for months during Quarantine I decided to grab some for my husband and I to go shooting after work. I had my infant with me, and there was no one there so I double parked in front and left the engine running and doors locked. I ran in, asked for exactly what I wanted, got the boxes and checked out in maybe 1 min. Some guy comes out of the back fuming at me, presumably the owner and rudely and for Directly tells me "you need to move your car, now, that's a fire hazard to park there." Well, the cashier handed me my receipt and I was already leaving which I stated. There was no possible method of delivery for this message that was more aggressive, poor, or generally without any concern for customer service. I am a very receptive and reasonable person and I would have totally understood the message and respected with any proper delivery! Being from a mile away in Wisconsin, we pull up and double park in front of empty businesses everywhere we go. We just don't go back to the ones where we get growled at.... not going to apologize for not choosing to leave my infant across the parking lot alone or bring him into a AMMO store. Ugh! read more

Quality training classes. Easy transfer experiences... the staff are organized, efficient, and communicate well. I just moved to Lake County a few months ago, passed by this place and finally had time to stop. I was asked for a FOID card before I was allowed view any firearms.. This was strange and foreign to me, however I waited to be "buzzed" in. Once inside, not a very large space at all, even though I was greeted, I just didn't feel all that welcomed. This place just gave off a certain vibe to me that made me uncomfortable to be there. And for that reason, I won't shop there. I've had much better experiences. read more

I haven't purchased any firearms from here or taken any classes, but I have used RDA for many FFL transfers. They are very reasonable at $25 for firearms transfers, and $40 to ship out a handgun to another FFL. They are usually prompt to notify me of a shipment received, and likewise send me tracking info for outgoing shipments. I'm overall very happy with having Red Dot Arms as my local gun shop read more

And with the amount of time I've spent there I believe I have met most of them!.Very courteous helpful no attitude no pressure willing to show you as many firearms that you are interested in. The prices on new and used handguns were the best around. Gun shops in Illinois are not that plentiful and a good one is even harder to find. I give this one two thumbs up! I stopped in to Red Dot several weeks ago, looking to purchase a Bersa Thunder. The staff was quite helpful, even though I didn't purchase that day. Earlier this week, I went on their site and noticed that they had another firearm I was looking for. They were great to do business with.
