I went to Golden Corral in Bristol because I wanted a steak--and ended up having one of the most unexpectedly enjoyable buffet experiences I've ever had. The Manager took the time to explain how everything worked and even gave me a quick tour. When he said they grill steaks to order, I was sold. A sirloin, plus fried okra, popcorn shrimp, fried chicken, salad... all for under $15 (lunchtime) You literally couldn't buy the steak alone for that price. Service was excellent--my server Bre was attentive and friendly--and the overall vibe was upbeat and welcoming. For a buffet, it felt remarkably warm and human. My wife and I frequent Golden Corral when we are in Bristol Va. area which is 3 or 4 times a month. I don't usually do reviews on a restaurant but our last two visits have been horrible! I really hope the management reads this review. The food was cold and not fresh, The fried chicken was way over cooked and dry. The fish was soggy and the vegetables were not seasoned well. The service was okay, the food was cold, looked like it had been sitting out for a while. When I tried to talk to the manager, Wayne, hoping to get things sorted, he made the situation worse. He acted annoyed that I even asked for help and gave me attitude instead of an apology. We eat there right often and the food is typically very good...today it was not. The sweet potatoes weren't warm enough to melt the butter but thanks to an attentive server I did finally get a good hot sweet potato. In addition to the potato there was no seafood salad, the teriyaki chicken was so salty it wasn't edible and the ice cream machine was out of order. No air conditioning on Father's Day!!!! I ask a waitress if air conditioner was broken and she said since December. We were in Bristol, Va. today for lunch at exit 7, so we decided to go back to GC again, since it had been a couple of months. BAD CHOICE. As soon as we walked in after paying, we noticed there were absolutely no beef offerings on the buffet and the steaks were no where to be seen. My wife asked as to why the offerings were very limited. The manager just said he was sorry and had no explanation. Went to the salad bar and one of the managers was arguing with a worker about who spilled something. I interrupted and asked why there were so many items were missing just on the salad bar. She said they were out of several items including crackers, raisins, and others. They offered a cajun fried fish, which after trying it, turned out to be just regular catfish that was breaded with no spices. Found a hotdog machine where the meat was supposed to be ....they were splitting open, because no one wanted them, Later, found a manager that was pouring hot water on the rice, baked beans to keep them from being so dry.........right out in the open!! Macaroni was so dry, it had to be from previous day. The number of people were sparse...probably less than 20 during 1 pm to 1:40....when we left very very disappointed. To put it kindly, there'd never be a gathering of gourmands in Bristol, VA. With that said, one can choose from a variety of chain restaurants in the vicinity. We picked Golden Corral. This Golden Corral is somewhat dingier than what we have in my area of GA -- but here -- the surprising part: the food was by and large good. Steak (something I rarely eat) was cooked as requested: tender, flavorful -- much better than one would expect at Golden Corral! Fried chicken was juicy, roast beef good quality .... yeah, well worth 12.99. (We get a dollar off as seniors!) The salad bar was missing field greens and some other accoutrements, but the patrons I saw, didn't seem to mind. My baked potato appeared to be sitting there for quite awhile -- mushy skin and somewhat brown flesh -- but with all the other options, it didn't matter. Saturday night was a hotbed of locals, all seemingly enjoying themselves. If all-you-can-eat buffets are your thing, you'll like Golden Corral. read more

Do not eat here, at the end of the night the staff use their bare hands to put away the food, food sits in coolers for days and is reheated day after day, no one washes their hands, managers force employees to cross contaminate food because they don't want to pay for the gloves so employees aren't allowed to change gloves often like they should, I've witnessed employees coughing and sneezing directly onto the food that they put out on the buffet, it's absolutely disgusting, there is no cleaning at the end of the night other than just a quick wipe down with a damp rag, food is dropped in the floor and still put out for people to eat, the floors aren't sanitized they simply throw hot water on the floor and use a squeegee to push the water down the drain, the back absolutely smells like rotten food, meat is used that shouldn't be all this so that the owner can make more money and so the managers can get their bonuses for keeping down food costs, please take your family somewhere else read more

I guess all Golden Corrals are owned separately. This one was next to a Walmart. As soon as we entered the parking lot the smell of rancid grease greeted us. The staff was very friendly. the Sadad bar was a disaster. And the food bar was not all appetizing, we might have stopped at a bad day, but we will not stop at this one again. read more

I feel bad for giving this place one star so I will give the Golden Corral kudos for their amazing service. The staff were all very friendly and warm with their southern hospitality. We were driving along Interstate 81 and there was nowhere to eat. Correction! There were a few fast food joints, but the perks of travel ling with your self-centered father is that you have no choice. I could tell from the moment that I walked in, the food would be terrible. For $7.35, you are entitled to all the food served in the buffet. It was all processed, yucky food. I would have much preferred to use my $7 and bought a vegetable sandwich at Subway. I'm assuming the Golden Corral is like your typical chain in that it follows a paint-by-number approach to creating their entrees. You will probably be served the same quality of food at the Golden Corral in Alaska as you would at their location in Hawaii. In short, come here if you have some weird obligation to donate $7 to this chain. Otherwise, skip it! read more

It all starts at the top. The affable, white-shirted franchise owner is always right there on the front lines. He has a clear vision for his business, obsesses over the details, and works side by side with his equally dedicated staff to maintain quality and please each customer. Chances are if you frequent Golden Corrals, you don't need a Yelp review, just a smartphone map. The food that we had was delicious. I had steak, baked potato and broccoli salad. The steak was tasty, it had a little grisle in it, but it was mostly tender, juicy and seasoned well. The baked potato was perfect, not overdone, as is the case when they sit in a warming bin for a while. The broccoli salad was absolutely divine! Perfect in every way. My family went into golden corral earlier this afternoon and did not have a good experience. I have a nut allergy and wanted to know if the cake had nuts or not. The employee wasnt completely sure so I asked for the manager over the kitchen. I have always enjoyed dining at this establishment until last night. As our first adventure back into public dining post covid 19, it was very disappointing to say the least. I understand its hard when you are serving lots of people but everyone should be treated at least the same. I paid 60+ dollars to eat there on an All You Can Eat Steak night. Had to ask for steak for me and my two grandsons 3 times and was promised it was cooking each time and would be brought to the table. Finally the manager (after over hearing me complain) brought 2 steaks over to the table not cooked medium and the griller was yelling at her that NO those were not ours....seriously. To be honest it was absolutely disgusting, the food was good but the plates were not clean I mean they were clean but not completely clean. My 1st experience at Golden Corral in Ohio was terrible but this location is so pleasant. This place is pretty clean when I visited. I constantly saw fresh food being put out which was also a plus. The food tasted fresh. My favorites were the seafood salad, bourbon street chicken, pot roast, and fried fish. Everyone so nice here and service with a smile. The manager constantly checking to make sure guests are enjoying their food. My server keeps checking and refilled my drink. Overall this is an awesome experience for me at Golden Corral. The food is good but the chief's are extremely rude! I'm not just basing that off of one dining experience either, me and my family dine at Golden Corral pretty often and every time we speak to a chief behind the bar they are rude. The rest of the staff is pretty friendly but they really need to hold their chiefs to a higher standard of customer service and hospitality! Honestly I would have given them 4 stars if their cooks hadn't been so rude with me and my family members, every single time we've spoke to them. So, it's a Golden Corral. For those who are unaware, Golden Corral is a chain of buffet restaurants; you pay one price and get unlimited access to everything on the huge buffet. If you are already familiar with Golden Corral, you can probably just stop reading now, because the food is pretty much like any other Golden Corral. My guess is that it's mostly prepared elsewhere and shipped to the restaurants to be heated up and served. The staff here are really nice. They try very hard to make your experience as good as possible. The layout is also good for traffic control--even when it's pretty busy, it doesn't take long to get what you want. I did not expect to find a lot of high quality food or meatless options at a Golden Corral, and I was right. Some of the food is pretty good. My baked potato was perfectly cooked, and there were a lot of toppings for it. There were also baked sweet potatoes available for variety. The salad bar is poorly organized and doesn't have very many vegetables. What I mean by "poorly organized" is that there is a sign that says "Start Here" over a big bowl of iceberg lettuce, but then further down the salad bar, they have romaine and spinach. Put all of the greens together at the beginning! In terms of not having a lot of vegetables--well, they don't have a whole lot of vegetables on the salad bar. A lot of it is dressings, toppings, and prepared salads along the lines of tuna or chicken salad. A salad bar needs vegetables. Then again, I didn't see anyone else at the salad bar with me, so maybe at Golden Corral, no vegetables are needed. There is some fruit. Much of it looks like it came out of a can, with the exception of the strawberries down by the chocolate fountain. We can talk about that in a minute. The hush puppies were really good. The french fries were much too salty. The corn was flavorless and gross. (How do you screw up corn?) The macaroni and cheese was pretty good. The fried rice was nasty; it was basically rice with frozen mixed veggies and a whole lot of soy sauce. Salt seems to be the name of the game here. There is a large dessert area that's dominated by fondue fountains--caramel, milk chocolate, and another one that wasn't on when we were there. We all stayed well clear of those. Who knows what's been stuck in those fountains? Spinach? Pot roast? Kids' grimy fingers? I don't even want to know, and the staff can't possibly supervise them at all times. Some of the other desserts were good, especially the chocolate frosted brownie, but some were stale. Where Golden Corral does excel is the bread. The cheddar biscuits were a big hit, and they were constantly running out of those. If you're lucky enough to snag one, enjoy it. There are also huge, soft, sweet rolls, which are plentiful and delicious. Putting honey margarine spread on them is the popular choice, but you can also head back to the baked potato bar and pick up some plain margarine if you're so inclined. Unless you really just want to eat a large amount of fair-to-disgusting food for a low price, you can do better than Golden Corral. Please. Try one of the many restaurants on Exit 7 that isn't Golden Corral. read more

We have been going to this restaurant for 4 years now. It has the best fried chicken and fresh baked rolls! The variety of foods is always good and you'll find something special that will amaze you on one of the buffet tables. The grilled meats is a favorite of my son and of course the dessert table too.
