(booking is essential. I once turned up and they were very rude about me not booking, even though when i had rung to book the gent who answered told me to just come in) So this time i arrive to enjoy a roast and im told coldly by the rude mistress type front of house/barwoman that there is no more lamb or pork. (just beef then!) she doesnt appologise for there being only 1 choice of roast, and curtly asks my dear mother what kind of spritzer in a almost fierce way that compliments her fake smile perfectly. she rushes us to order and continues to be un-accomodating when we ask to sit outside in the garden. Then when we choose to sit outside, ignoring her rudness and inflexibility, its insinuated that i might not pay and im asked to leave my card behind the bar. I decide then id prefer not to dine here , but felt given the time i have no choice as it was getting late to find somewhere else. Thankfully the well spoken gentleman working made up for his rude colleagues manner, and in the end the meal was fine, and the afternoon enjoyable. I saw her desperately drawing on her fags out the back whilst i was eating, and it occured to me that she was probably rude because she needed a nicotine fix! (i remember those days) with a friendlier front of house manager i would highly reccomend this to friends and family, but as i believe dining out is an experince, i will not be. change the moody 'madame type' front of house and you have an exceptional pub to eat at in the forest of dean. ACCOMODATION: I have not stayed here or seen the accomodation, but my sister who is experinced in the hospitality industry was appualed. in her words she was made to feel very unwelcome and like i was an inconvenience she also said the accomodation was shabby and not very clean Please note, she stayed in December 2011 and it may well of got better (forever optimistic!).

we have not eaten here for quite a while, but yesterday we went out for lunch, and were very…read moredisappointed, the waitress brought the meats, my friend requesting a plain piece of chicken which came as a piece of chicken which the stuffing of mushrooms had been removed but bits left in it, and we had to wait for veg which was undercooked and luke warm, then no-one came to see if we would like sweets, then when we paid, the gentleman was going to charge us for wine which we didn.t have and also drinks which we had paid at the bar for.The whole experience was a real let down especially as we had friends with us. This is a historic Pub has served the community for many years and is listed as a #2 building. Now to the food. We ordered fish and chips, shrimp scampi and a bacon cheese burger. For dessert we ordered sticky toffee pudding and a cheese cake. Everything was great!! The fish and chips were the best I've had so far. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. After a long day driving from London, we arrived at the end of dinner service but the staff was willing to go ahead and serve us. I highly recommend visiting the Globe. It was so good that we had to go back a second time!! Tuesday is "pie night" two pies for 20 pounds.

They do insist on using brioche buns (uhk), but they burgers are juicy and meaty and being sat watching the river gently push past makes up for this one annoyance. We did order a cheese board, but can only presume that they made a mistake because we were brought about three times the usual amount. the friendly staff were happy to bring us a massive box of crackers so we did what was needed and ate the lot. Parking can be tricky, and it's quite a popular spot in the summer. They have some toys out for kids, but there are probably more family friendly spots.

If you're expecting a posh cocktail bar this isn't it but if you want somewhere to simply hang out and drink this will fit the bill. Bonuses are some outdoor seating and live music plus they take credit cards and have both beer and hard alcohol. I don't really have any reason to give it 5* but there's certainly nothing to warrant less than 4.

The bars are very comfortable with a range of different types of seating including bar seats and comfortable chairs with great armrests! The food is very good and this is confirmed by a number of friends who use it regularly. There are a number of different real ales available all of which are carefully looked after.
