Hubby & I stopped by here for the first time. We were seated immediately & the server got our drinks while we perused the menu. The ambiance is typical BBQ restaurant. We ordered the pulled pork nachos as an appetizer & it was HUGE! It was tasty & would easily feed 4-6 diners. For our main course, I got the walleye with sides of coleslaw & baked beans. A Really Awful Experience in so Many Ways! As native Putnam County folks wherein the Red Pig is located, we have eaten at The Pig numerous times, and they are justly famed for their BBQ sauce and ribs. So I found our last visit SHOCKING, to say the least. This was our experience: Made a reservation for ten (nine were able to come) and brought friends from out of town on a weekday night. Arrived on time, it was not particularly busy, and we were seated promptly. And it all went downhill from there. The menus had an inserted note to the effect that they had raised their prices, but the prices wouldn't be reflected on the menu until the menus were reprinted. Wouldn't it have been just as easy to insert the note with the new prices on it? Or do what any quality restaurant does and wait until the menu is reprinted to raise the prices? Instead, we were left scratching our heads and wondering what our dinner would cost. (Picture nine people individually asking the server to discuss the current pricing!) The server was using a hand-held device to enter our orders, and apologized for having difficulty, explaining that "it was a new system". Odd. We had been in 4 months previously when the same device was in use. Food and drinks arrive. Even using her "new device", the server was unable to put the dish down in front of the person who ordered it without asking who had ordered it. This is not rocket science. I have seen 80-year-old servers in hairnets ("What'll you have, honey?") take orders without having to write them down and then deliver the plates to the correct person. From time immemorial, even the cheapest diner has had a system for identifying seats and their orders, obviating the need to ask who ordered what. What poor training (or lack of skills) this server exhibited. She shall remain nameless with the hope that she will find another occupation. Once the plates were served, two complete orders out of nine were found to be missing. Apologies by the server. Runs back to the kitchen and returns. "The kitchen didn't receive your order". Whose fault is that? We'll never know since it could have been the server, the chef, or that pesky "hand-held device". Apologies and assurances that the dinners would be arriving soon. No offer of so much as a potato chip to munch on for the bereft diners. The rest of us had to start eating or let our food get cold. Very awkward for all, to say the least. 15 minutes into our meal, one missing dinner appears. The rest of us are half finished. The still-missing meal is salmon. How long does fish take to cook?!? Another 15 minutes goes by. By that point, we all are finished with our meal and waiting for our checks. Server does not appear for another 15 minutes, this time with the salmon dish. We sit there while she eats some and then leaves the rest since the group is ready to go. I excuse myself from the table, find the server, and discreetly say, "I sincerely hope you plan to comp her that meal, because that situation was inexcusable." Her reply? "I'll check with the manager." She comes back to the table and announces to all, "My manager says I can discount the meal 15%. It's not my fault." Nobody said it was, dearie, but what a poor decision on the part of management! Unsatisfactory (or non-delivered) meals are routinely comped or reimbursed with a coupon in any decent restaurant, usually accompanied by the manager appearing with an apology tableside. And now for the kicker: Each diner was presented with the now-ubiquitous hand-held device to pay their bill. Very difficult to decipher (tiny screen, hard to read). Upon questioning, the server noted that the extra line item was the tax, which was paid without question. Each diner left a tip. In examining the printed receipt after we left, we discovered that the "tax" was really a tip because of the size of the party, so the server was double-tipped. A legal maneuver admittedly, but so tacky, so lacking in integrity. Consequently, having been embarrassed in front of our out-of-town guests, we are done with The Pig. Every restaurant can have a bad day. But good management knows how to handle it properly to ensure customer good will. First time here in a long time. The atmosphere is great, and our server was awesome. She recommended some dishes that we tried and they were good. We came with friends and had a great time. Our came quickly to our table and promptly. The place was clean well lit. We had a great time and will definitely be back. The ribs and bbq pork are really good. I ordered this through Facebook messenger for a work event that I needed the next day. They responded quickly and had our order ready on time and actually correct! The guys loved the two types of sandwiches I ordered, one was the burger and the other was the pork. They all raved at how good the food was, portions were large and everyone's belly was happy after lunch. I ordered the salad and it was large, at least two servings if I had saved some of it and not eaten it all. It had bbq sauce and I ordered ranch as well, what a great mix with the salad. My order was BBQ chop salad for me and a mix of porkys delight and red pig inn cheeseburger. Wish I had tried the ribs! I think that's what they are known for. Prices seemed fair for what we ordered. I cannot comment on the staff or decor, parking etc as I sent an employee to go pick it up. For the middle of no where Ohio, this place wasn't bad. We had Great service, our waitress was very on top of things. The cook even came out and talked with us. He gave us good recommendations on what to order. We had the pork chop and the pork Rueben. Both were delicious. The Rueben was huge. We will eat there again very soon. read more

Went here with relatives who had heard great reviews, but many in our party were disappointed. Salads were brought with no tableware or napkins and we had to ask for them. Drinks didn't come until after the salads. 3 of us had margaritas and we agreed they were weak and watered down. 1 ordered an old fashioned. And I think someone had to look up the recipe because it took so long. And it was less than half the small glass when it came. A whole cherry was thrown in so obviously it wasn't muddled. 3 of us had the ribs because "best in the Midwest"! They were very dry with sauce thrown on top. The baked potatoes were so cold the butter and sour cream weren't even melting. 4 had walleyes and they had no complaints. We never received the promised cornbread despite asking for it. We went there on a Wednesday late afternoon to check it out. It was clean and nice environment except for the loud country music. We hate country music, so if you like country music, you will love it. But the ribs were very good so we tolerated the country music! The sauce was sticky and on the sweet side, which we liked! They have several types to chose from ranging from sweet to hot. We had sides of smoky mac & cheese and baked beans. The beans were very good and husband liked the mac and cheese but I did not, it was very smoky! They include 2 cute little cornbread muffins but they were ice cold and no butter. Over all, we would go back. If the muffins are cold next time, I will just ask for them to be warmed. The wait staff were very nice and accommodating. We had an appetizer of loaded fries which we only ate a few each since this was a "tasting" visit. We only ate about a fourth of our ribs and packed up a lot to take home and had a enough for a whole meal the next day! read more

Service was severely lacking! 3 people, silverware and napkins for 2, ordered drinks and had to ask for them. they came to us as our food was coming out. My son ordered a plain bacon cheeseburger, came out covered in BBQ sauce and onions. His fries were cold they did remake his burger, brought his cold fries back too! My husband's tea was slimy. We had to go to the bar to ask for to go boxes and when the bill finally came, the waitress/manager stood and waited for it. She didn't even want to give us a chance to look it over. This is where I was introduced to BBQ. I'm a sucker for saucy, wet, tangy BBQ, and this place serves the best I've ever had. If you come here and you don't get ribs, you're missing out. My favorite is the Ribs/Chicken Wings combo, as their Squealer Hot is bomb-diggety. This place is a rib joint that's not a total dive, and that's something to be said. You're not actually afraid to use the restroom. The old adage "just close your eyes and order the ribs" need not apply here. It's actually pretty classy. read more

This place was way better when it was different owners. The menu has changed, no longer get the bread. The ribs were not very good. I like my ribs when they are fall off the bone. These were tuff. Got the full slab and it was really fatty. Not much meat. Had to saw between the ribs to try and separate them. My partners ribs weren't as bad as mine. He did have decent meaty ribs. But still tough. The fries held a lot of grease. When you'd chew it would come out of the inside of the fry. A different server delivered our food and when we asked for a refill she said ok let me get your server. Told the gal next to us (who was at an empty table getting her tip) the girl says I'm not their server..... so when our server came to the table I asked for a new ketchup bc ours was empty. She acted irritated she had to get one. Plus I have never ate at a place that charges you more to use a card. $101 to pay with cash and $105 to pay with card.... I don't believe I'll be back. Hometown favorite! The new owners are local Putnam county people. If you grew up here, then you know Dick Schnipke who made Red Pig a legend. The value of consulting Dick is one of the reasons they are getting it right. We had the pleasure of dining there just after Thanksgiving (Yummy) I wish nothing but the best for them. I reserved 3 weeks prior to Christmas Eve day when ,on the phone, a special buffet was confirmed as well as prices. When my family and I arrived there was no buffet and I was told there wasn't much interest so they decided not to do it. The man who was seating us asked if we wanted to order off the menu and I replied "we don't have much choice" he replied "yes you do, you can leave". My family and I found that very rude! We decided to make the best of it and stay since it was a happy time for us. We ordered our food. The salads had a distasteful lettuce and no iceberg which we did not eat. My steak was ordered med well and came med rare. It was very tough even cutting it into tiny pieces. My son in law ordered a hamburger med rare and it came well done. My daughters pulled pork was very dry and seemed like it had been around for a while and worst of all my 4 yo grandson ordered the kids Mac and cheese and it was kraft boxed Mac and cheese. Really?? There were no deserts on the menu. I couldn't believe the food that came out of that kitchen. The waitress was ok but didn't come around to check on us until it was too late to send things back and we were the only customers the whole time we were there. I have eaten off and on at the Red pig for the pass 15 years. I have always been a fan of the food especially the amazing Wednesday buffet. The pork, and BBQ has been something of legend, I have bragged to many of my customers and friends about the Red Pig and their food. So I was very sad today when I had taken a customer to the Red Pig to find that the long standing buffet is no more.... I have been bragging about the buffet to this customer and we traveled over 40 miles to eat there only to find that for some crazy reason they are no longer offering the highly praised buffet any longer. So with heads hung low we decide to sample their "award" wining ribs. And again I was met with disappointment, the once delicious award winning ribs were now dry, hard, and over sauced. The two sides of frys and coleslaw were good however the portions were very small and not worth the money. I was embarrassed to have brought my customer to eat at the Red Pig, and I fear that it is in decline in both service and food Quality. I hope things improve otherwise we may have to say goodbye to this small town great. read more

My husband & I sat at the bar. It was hopping the whole time, no empty tables. Despite the busy the bartender was prompt delivering food & answering questions. We got the loaded tater tots add pulled pork. They were superb. We also go the meat sampler w/ the brisket, ribs, & smoked chicken wings. Sides were the smoked Mac & cheese, & ranchero baked beans. The only complaints we had was the Mac & cheese didn't taste smoked- though very good. And deep frying the chicken wings took away from smoked flavor. This is the second Red Pig Inn the Hubs and I have eaten in (first was in Findlay, OH). I liked the first one much better--this one was just OK for me. I had the Shrimp New Orleans and that was GREAT. My problem was with the sides and appetizer. Potato skins were very dry and bland. A little butter would have helped a lot. Ranch Dressing on the salad tasted like it came out of a bottle--and a cheap bottle at that. And my mashed potatoes...again, very dry and bland. Since the food here is not cheap at all, I expected more. And the food at Findlay RPI was noticeably better, so it was rather a letdown. read more

This was such a disappointment! We saw the stars and the description and thought we would try the places out as we were up visiting our son at college. We should have picked up on the fact that only 3 tables were seated when we arrived at 5:00 on a Sunday. When we tried to order they were out of basically the entire menu! Potato skins, chicken anything, salmon and literally everything else we were Actually interested in.... We ended up with brisket. It was the most dry, fat filled piece of meat I have ever been served. I went between choking and gaging as I attempted to eat it. The steamed vegetables were broccoli and carrots. The carrots were so old they were white and the broccoli had gone to seed. Neither where remotely steamed both were quite raw. If you are visiting from out of town, I would avoid a stop at this place... hugely disappointing. Service was poor (mostly kids and no one supporting them - out server may have been new as she was completely unfamiliar with the menus) and no one tried to make this experience right. First, and most likely last visit. Not impressed with the food, prices, or customer service. At our time of visit we were the only people in the back section the entire time! Husband did not like the Chicken Parmesan, it was extremely bland. They did provide crushed red pepper when asked but it didn't help the blandness. My pulled pork was ok, definitely not what I expected from a place such as this. The Parmesan Noodles tasted odd. Hubby did like the house salad and we both enjoyed the warm bread. I have a party at my home every summer with a bunch of guys age range of 40-90 years old from all over NW Ohio. I have it catered by various people/restaurants over the past years. We used to have a chicken roaster come on site and do it for us and they did a great job very tasty chicken BBQ. But a couple of years ago my chicken roaster guy couldn't make it so I had the Red Pig Inn come to my place, they provided a person to set up, take care of the food prepared at the restaurant and then brought out and they provide everything you need, they just show up. Well, we have had them there for the previous 3 years and when I asked the guys at another meeting if they wanted me to try something different, they resolutely said, no, they want me to get Red Pig, the food is that good and I agree. The only reason I would have suggested different would be to mix up the caterers over the years. We usually get a mix of the ribs and BBQ chicken and a couple of picnic type side dishes. I love their baked beans. I would give them a 6 star if they had it. Not only is the food great, I think their prices are very reasonable for the quality that you receive. Went to the Red Pig last night with 8 other family members. My first experience was two years ago when we had a family get-together to celebrate my outlaws 50th wedding anniversary. My wife and I now make a point of coming when we are in NW Ohio. I have previously had the ribs, brisket and raspberry glazed pork loin. The brisket and pork loin were both flavorful, but dry. Without sauce they would have been tough to swallow. The ribs are excellent and the side dishes have been great as well. I am taken aback here (as I unfortunately am at other BBQs) by the fact that they do not have mac and cheese, greens or cornbread as sides. they serve the same loaves of dark bread that you get at Outback. Good, but not authentic. This trip, they had a printed up specials menu. The "Pork of July" specials. Droll. I had been thinking about fried chicken the last couple of days, but I am in a BBQ restaurant and I'm here for the 'que. Prior to us going, I downloaded the menu onto my Droid. I was looking for BBQ chicken to take care of my recent craving and still get the smoke fix. Really, a combo with meat and chicken if possible. To my dismay, it appeared the only BBQ Chicken they had either as a meal or in a combo consisted of chicken breasts. I know, Boneless Breasts are a mainstay in restaurants because everybody thinks it is the best cut and has the lowest fat. Well, arguable and yes. It has lower fat, but I don't consider it the best cut. Most expensive does not always equate to the best. It is dry and tasteless. Ask almost any chef what cut of meat is their least favorite to work with and I would be surprised if 85% or mor did not say chicken breast. BUT.... The Pork of July specials included a BBQ Rib and Fried Chicken Combo! The Lord blesses me in SO many ways! And the gods of BBQ are his tasty helpers. Of course, I ordered this. The ribs were a three bone portion from the large end and the fried chicken was (thank you again Lord) a thigh and drum. This came with 2 sides (I got beans and cheddar mashed potatoes) for a reasonable $12.99. My wife got the Hog Heaven Combo which is Ribs, Pulled Pork and 2 sides for $14.99. She orders no sauce on each. The ribs are nicely cooked and smokey. Not fall-off-the-bone. As I have mentioned on other BBQ reviews, that is NOT the sign of perfect ribs. Release from the bone with minimal pulling is. Her pulled pork was excellent. Great slow smoked flavor and very moist. She had a baked potato and beans as sides. My ribs I ordered with sauce. Most times I go sauceless, but Red Pig has a terrific sauce. It is so complex and well-balanced. Sweet, tangy, spicy and always glazed on the ribs at the proper time so it is not to liquid, but has not overcooked to a sticky burnt mess. I know I speak of the positive flavor profile of charred or burnt areas and their flavor enhancement, but that does not go for BBQ sauce. The place for the char in BBQ is on the meat through the Maillard Reaction. The ribs were awesome. The chicken was also expertly cooked. Crispy, well seasoned coating with no old oil flavor and the meat underneath had been properly seasoned as well. Both pieces were tender, flavorful and biting through the crisp crust released a juiciness that would run over yourlips and onto your chin. The beans are also very good and the potatoes were average. Even with the things I have criticized, this is still one of the best restaurants I have the pleasure of eating at. I highly recommend it and pray that someday they add greens and cornbread to the menu. read more

The Mgr. Sandy Sue was wonderful, we had a meeting here Mon. Our sever was 10 stars, all 22 people in our group raved about the food! Folks, the don't have all those Championship trophies from the Ohio State Fair for no reason. The Food is the reason why.
