Great servers! Meals came out exactly as ordered they even brought a cupcake out for my husband's birthday!

I'm only giving this one star because of the women that "greeted us" at the door. She was rude and short. We ended up going downstairs to the Firestone Tavern. The staff there were amazing. I was looking forward to having my birthday dinner at Sweet water I have been here several times and the food is amazing!!! If I was only able to eat it. The restaurant sits on a beautiful golf course. Through the years there has been much growth at this establishment. It saddens me that one employee with a negative attitude can change all of that. read more

I've visited Sweetwater Chophouse a number of times for a variety of events and the food has always been delicious and the service has always been very friendly. In the past, I've had their catered food for a private business meeting, a holiday lunch with coworkers, a family dinner, and lunch with a friend and everything has been perfect. The dining room is nicely decorated, the views of the golf course are beautiful, and it feels like a more fancy environment that is still comfortable. I live more than an hour's drive from Defiance or I would visit more frequently. read more

I don't surprise easily, but recently when visiting Defiance, Ohio, friends and family recommended we try out Sweetwater Chophouse to enjoy one of the best meals in town. I must say, they weren't wrong! I have to say we went as a large group of both very hungry and Foodie patrons. Sweetwater Chophouse sits on a beautiful and picturesque golf course, and the property is literally a compound containing multiple venues... the Crick Entertainment Center with its Forked Crick Brewery, the Fired Stone Tavern, obviously the Auglaize and Harvest Moon Golf Course Sweetwater sits on with a vastly enormous interior and a beautiful outdoor veranda eating area overlooking the truly lush and green golf course. First off Sweetwater's staff's social skills, hospitality and caring attitude from entering to departing is beyond reproach and refreshing. After settling at our table and admiring the panoramic views of nature, we started our visit with a selection from an exceptional assortment of bottled and draught beers, beverages and full bar drinks. Though at the table, most settled for water, a couple of fab Strawberry Basil Margaritas, a really properly prepared Classic Mojito with Bacardi Rum, fresh mint, sugar cane juice, real lime and of course soda (yes, I had a sip of each!). And my request of my go-to-favorite cocktail of an extra dry, Grey Goose Vodka Martini with two olives was next to perfection! Kudos to the Bartender! We proceeded with our orders of a well formulated and tasty Caesar Salad. Then someone ordered Garlicky Brussels Sprouts sautéed and crisped in a garlic vinaigrette in a blend of delicate artichokes, sprinkled with Cherry Peppers. Someone ordered a perfectly rendered Bacon Wagyu Slider whose beef patties were cooked to perfection with smoked Gouda cheese, apple bacon, along with Heirloom Tomato, Spring Greens sprinkled with a delicate Truffle Aioli on rich Brioche Rolls. Being a Snapper lover, my wife went for the Key West Grilled Snapper (albeit we being quite far from Snapper origins) which included Blue Crab, Avocado, Shrimp along with an enjoyable Key Lime infused Cream. When my order came along, I utterly enjoyed a charmingly smooth and tasty Lobster Bisque - very, very well prepared (was that a squirt of Brandy I detected?). Then followed by my main Seafood Au Gratin chock full of flavorful Jumbo Shrimp, sizeable Langostinos, chunks Mahi, tender Sea Scallops, perfect mushrooms, some unbelievably tasty asparagus and infused with an amazing Mornay Champagne Cream. Wow! I approached that dish with strong ebullience. When visiting this area, I seldom have expectations of enjoying a culinary delight, but I must say, I believe Sweetwater Chophouse has done an extraordinary job of putting all facets regarding excellent cookery from a charming establishment, a warm staff, professional management and most important Chef Weible, the cooks and linepersons who achieve and excel in the art of cooking. I have eaten at this restaurant a number of times and have generally had a positive experience. Last Saturday, 08/22 I had lunch at SW with 8 friends. I ordered the chicken caesar pasta salad. When the salad arrived at the table the grilled chicken on it smelled HORRIBLE. I have never smelled grilled chicken like this in my life. I could even smell the awful smell 1.5 ft away. As I got closer and investigated the smell, it was definitely the chicken. I asked the waitress to take the salad and remove the chicken because it smelled bad. She removed the chicken and brought the salad back to me. The rest of the salad seemed to be okay and I ate a few bites of it. (I clearly left most of it) However, there was never an acknowledgment or apology for the problem. And I was charged the full price for the chicken caesar pasta salad. I was with a group of friends and didn't want to make a scene about it. The quality of the meal was very disappointing and the lack of professionalism in the way they handled it. I hope no other customer ate that chicken and became ill. read more

Came on a Thursday late afternoon, 5pm-ish. Reservation not needed, which was great. Was seated right away. Few tables were occupied but not too busy or too loud. Nice atmosphere, great service and attentive server. Got Bang Bang Seafood as our appetizer which was very delicious, the shrimp and calamari were perfect. Especially I loved calamari, it was crunch outside and very soft inside! For main, I got coconut shrimp. Came with four giant shrimps with green beans and mashed potatoes. It seemed small but as I had it, I was getting too full! Shrimps were amazing, mashed potatoes were very good and green beans were just icing on the cake! I was in town for work and sat at the bar by myself but still had a great time. Good service, great food, and affordable prices. What a wonderful surprise! I traveled here with a friend last night after hearing about this as a steakhouse from a couple of people over the last couple of years. Our waitress, Danielle, was outstanding! We learned that they bake most, if not all, of their own breads and desserts. They source most of their meats, poultry and ingredients locally and it showed. Beyond that, it is much more than just a steakhouse which means that I will return with my wife and family who are not so much meat eaters. It is located at the Eagle Rock Golf Club but you need not be a member to dine. The setting is relaxing as well as the service which we requested and never felt rushed. We both upgraded to the salad bar and enjoyed that as well as the soup offered. The salad ingredients were fresh, varied and enjoyed. Two soups are offered each night and we tried alternate soups, each bragging to each other about the one we tried. I then had the 12 oz Ribeye, my friend the Snapper filet, adding the Mornay Scalloped Potatoes. First, this is more than I normally consume - I ate it all. Next, it was sooo good. My friend's drive to my home and then from Whitehouse to Defiance was an hour. Not terrible but he's ready to do it again. Well worth the time. One of the best we've been to in a while! I recommend that if you've not been, add it to your list. read more

Came to Sweetwater for the first time on a Tuesday. My family was so excited to bring me to a "nicer" place in Defiance. The place looks good and I was told they have expanded a ton since opening. What a joke this place is! Walked in and was told 30-45 minute when over half the dinning room was empty! Emwe decided to sit at the bar because of the long wait. Sat at the bar with the most sour faced bar tender (Jess?) I have seen in a long time. She never smiled and acted like we we bothering her to order a drink from her.Kayla the host had no idea on the timing for a table and we watched several people come in after us and get seat without waiting, what a crock! With the inflated prices that they charge they could probably afford to hire some staff that actually want to be here, and at least could fake trying to be happy. Most of the food most likely comes out of a bag from GFS, standard crappy premade b.s.. Salad so warm it was wilted in the bowl.You can tell this place could be great but clearly they would rather be pretentious snotty punks instead. Glad y'all are on a golf course filled with suckers that don't mind getting treated like shit and served overpriced mediocre food. If this is the "nice" place in town, I would rather cook dinner myself! Well, I guess my review hit a nerve with the the chef. We were kindly welcomed by the hostess with this beautiful display of dessert next to the hostess stand! This place was hopping with a wait but they had 4 seats available at the bar. Right away we were greeted with a large drink menu. I couldn't pass up the coconut-pineapple mojito. 5 stars on the mojito!!!!! I must say it was a very hard decision to choose what to eat. The pasta made my mouth water, THE STEAKS oh my the different cuts and how they will cook them was awesome! I looked around as other plates were delivered and still so hard to decide. Considered sharing a Tomahawk or just the Salt block filet. I could not pass up the coconut shrimp and I'm so thankful that was my choice! My husband and son in law went with steak and our daughter pasta. We will definitely be back when we come to visit! Being from out of town we left happy and full! We were taking a family member who live in Las Vegas to see the fall colors by driving down the Maumee River to Defiance. We were looking on line for a new restaurant to try for lunch, and found Sweetwater Chophouse. We struck gold, located on the grounds of a beautiful country club, this is a great place. Ambiance is beautiful with panoramic views of the golf course, we were delighted with the food, the lunch menu was a tasty treat of sandwiches raised to a superior and tasty level, interesting sandwiches and a Lobster Bisque to die for. It has a nice salad bar and both the Bisque and the Cheeseburger Jalapeño soups we tried were delicious. Our server was wonderful and so helpful she was a delight. All in all I recommend 100% and we plan to come back for dinner as soon as possible, check them out!!! read more

I'm generously giving this four stars. My husband and son loved their steaks and fries. The salad bar was enjoyable. I thought the bisque was a little strong on sherry and my stuffed shrimp had a really fishy aftertaste. I gave a couple to my hubby, who doesn't mind strong fish flavors and I doused the rest in lemon juice. The side I had included potatoes and Brussels sprouts. At first bite they were really good, but they cooked down quickly and I realized how greasy they were and it turned my stomach and I couldn't finish my meal, which is completely unlike me. The view was beautiful and the ambiance was nice. Our server was also very good and attentive. I would be willing to give it another shot, but I wouldn't really have to go back either. That being said, my son felt it was one of the best steaks he'd ever had. read more

The salad was very good. The broccolini soup was ridiculously salty and inedible. The creme brûlée was too sweet (how is that even possible?!). Also it was surprisingly very difficult to order takeout. Apparently a person can't order takeout via phone or in person if the bar area is full. They just don't answer the phone and the online ordering system didn't work. Orders can't be placed with the hostess stand because you can't access reservations via phone either. I definitely think this could be fixed (and operate like every other restaurant) to allow for takeout orders. Undecided if I'll be back. read more

Came to the area for work and ended up here every night. The menu offers all of the Chophouse staples plus some unique selections. They also have seasonal food and drink specials. Try the Smokey Ol' Fashioned. It's a very unique twist to a classic cocktail. Might be one of the best cocktails I've ever had. I travel alot for work and can say that everything I had was top notch. Prices are reasonable or even cheap compared to other Chophouses or similar type restaurants. Special shot outs: Nicole (Tuesday evening) for making the best Smokey Ol'Fashioned and taking extra time to talk to me about the drink Crystal (Wednesday & Thursday evenings) for taking the time and caring to make sure she got the Smokey Ol'Fashioned just right. Mandy (Wednesday evening) for having the kitchen special make a creamy horseradish to accompany my steak. It's really the service that distinguishes a place. These girls make this place stand above the rest and are the reason I came to the same restaurant 3 consecutive nights. This place is doing it right. Rumor has it the Smokey Ol' Fashioned (that I can't shut up about) is getting discontinued. Maybe management will reconsider after reading this. read more

This place has potential, incredible potential. But you don't get four or five stars when you make mistakes that are crucial to the dining experience. Sweetwater Chophouse has got a lot of really good things going for it. They're sitting in an idyllic setting amongst a golf course. The trees and grounds give you a feeling that you're dining in a chalet somewhere exotic. The view if very nice, and I imagine would enhance a romantic dinner. Their menu is diverse and offers some really surprising options. My entree included a divine presentation of Scallops with a delicate Rissoto. Both were very good. Salmon and other sea offerings are also available. I'm not a Steak person, but the meat side of the menu looked well stocked as well. Their bar area has a very welcoming aura, and lots of shiny bottles waiting to be turned into an interesting concoction. Unfortunately, there were a few disappointments. I was seated at least 5 minutes before I was greeted by my server. The timing of first greeting when you first arrive is so important, and unfortunately she blew it. I ordered soup (to begin with) and was shocked when it was brought out with my entree, and just a little cool besides. I enjoyed the soup well enough, but I would have enjoyed it more had it come out as an appetizer (in the spirit I ordered it.) The final issue was the amount of time it took to pay. My server only checked on my once, and it took much longer to settle up than it should have. The food is high quality, the room is beautiful, and the prices aren't terrible - but service must improve. Will be back for one more try in the near future. read more
