There was no gas coming through the line, and it just wouldn't ignite. I called Shellback, and within two hours, Moises arrived at my place. He was incredibly responsive, immediately diagnosed the issues, and gave me a clear breakdown of the work needed and the estimated timeline. The fix required replacing both the thermal pilot assembly and the gas control valve. Since the parts were covered under the manufacturer's warranty, he had to source them from an authorized dealer. To make sure we weren't left completely out in the cold, Moises got the gas ignitor working temporarily on day one. By 9:00am the very next morning, he had already picked up the warrantied parts and finished the permanent replacement! As a great bonus, he also flushed the water heater for routine maintenance before wrapping up. I was blown away by the turnaround time. He informed me that he couldn't, an estimator would have to send me an estimate and he would have to come back and that the charge for today was $320. $320. keep in mind that is for cutting a hole in the wall and finding a leak that was 6 inches behind the wall. Then 3 days later I get an email asking for my email address so they can send me an invoice. I ask how much is it I want to get this scheduled. She explained she did not know and that the email would have the quote. I said ok and that I would wait. So the email comes. $1010 was the quote in addition to the $320 charged to say the valve was leaking. I have no idea if this is a good idea or not and I need it fixed so I called them to schedule. They informed me that I needed to sign the estiamate first and send it back. I said I did not have that facility. they basically gave some options for downloading ot my phone and signing on my phone, but pretty much figure it out yourself. I said this it too much work and that I would go with someone else. Side note I am actually on the HOA board I have not done business directly with them before, but I was told good things by the management company. Apparently they were not correct on their assessment of their customer service and pricing as searching on google show a reasonable price to be around $600 not $1330. So I will be looking at these invoices more closely when they come from the management company and start asking for competing bids.

They told us they would "look for the leak," charged us $1,100 for less than two hours of work, and found nothing. Only afterward did they explain that the $1,100 was for looking for an active supply leak, NOT the drainage leak we'd called about. When I questioned why that distinction wasn't made clear beforehand, their response was essentially: "You signed the paperwork." They then wanted another $1,800 to smoke test the drainage system. Another licensed plumber performed that same test for $600, found multiple drainage leaks, and ultimately got our $11,000 repair job. Their justification for these diagnostic charges was that the money would go toward the eventual repair. But that's precisely my concern: their process would have had us nearly $3,000 committed to them before the drainage problem was even identified or we knew what they would charge to fix it. Maybe their eventual repair quote would have been competitive, maybe it wouldn't have been. We'll never know because we stopped there. But when one diagnostic alone was quoted at three times what another legitimate plumber charged, I wasn't willing to find out. The technician was nice and seemed competent.
