Called them late at night, and the next day a technician is in our house in the morning. The technician was great, very helpful, but so many potential interventions presented. While I'm not an expert, and there are technicalities, I do feel like the quotes weren't very honest at all. The job was done within an 1hr and 15mins + the time they used to buy parts. I watched and took a peek of what was being done, and it doesn't make sense how we were quoted that much for the work itself. It has technicalities , but I don't think it's extremely complicated. We didn't question anything bc we wanted it done asap. That being said, I don't think I'll be using them again. I called for a simple shower drain clog. Don't be fooled by the $40 drain cleaning "special" - that is only if they can fix it from the cleanout, which is not like likely with a shower. But fine, whatever, I needed the drain unclogged. The plumber came out, spent some time snaking the drain, but then said he was not able to unclog it. He charged me the full call out price even though the drain was not draining. I called a second plumber, who came out the next day and fixed it in about five minutes. Worse still, the Rooter Man Plumber scraped up and damaged my drain. So not only did I pay for a call out that did not fix a very simple shower clog, had to have a second plumber come, but I also now need to replace the drain hardware. I called the office, who said they'd note it, but I doubt any report or notes were made. They did not seem to care. I had both sides of my kitchen sink backing up, so instead of calling my regular (expensive but trustworthy) plumber, I figured I'd save money and use one of the larger rooter/plumbing companies for a simple drain snake service.ROOTER MAN was the first name I saw. They had decent reviews. The quoted price was around $140 if they cleared the clog.( it was after hours that was an after hours price.) The technician arrived and barely looked at the actual sink ...looked at the drain trap from several feet away and exclaimed the pipe was "crumbling." He really wanted to find and inspect the crawlspace which is on the opposite side of the house and he was gone maybe five minutes before returning to tell me that the pipes underneath the house were failing and that he would not even attempt to snake the drain because he might "break the pipes." He then said the repair would involve replacing about 10 feet of pipe and suddenly came up with an estimate of exactly $5,678.90 that he could do "tomorrow." A few things really stood out to me: - he never seriously inspected under the sink itself - he showed me only one blurry photo of the the trap that proved nothing - he claimed to have crawled through a 16+ year old crawlspace, ( that would have taken 15 minutes at least due to obstructions and proximity). yet somehow came back perfectly clean without a speck of dust, dirt, or cobwebs on him - right before giving me the estimate, he suddenly shifted into very personal "family man" conversation designed to win my trust. - the oddly specific estimate number looked made up on the spot and was in ascending order. 5678.9 Unfortunately, as I don't own my house, he had no further course of action but to wait and see if I would call back in the next day I called my regular plumber for a second opinion. He came out, snaked the drain normally, cleared the clog quickly, and everything was fine... he also informed me that I do not have cast-iron pipes and that trap is rusted on the outside, but not crumbling. This was just a textbook upsell. Way too many red flags to be a real threat but a waste of my time and shady no matter how you look at it. read more

He took videos of what was happening under the house even before the repairs began so that I could see multiple areas and damage to our foundation and not just the immediate trouble area in the sink. I am so happy he did a full inspection!! During the repair, he actually brought me out to see some of the pipes being replaced and they were 95% blocked. We even had a large leak underground that he was able to lay completely new plumbing. I am so appreciative because everything under the house is wood and our house collapsing would have been catastrophic. called for the $50 special to unblock my shower/toilet. Showed up pretty quickly. Immediately said he could do the $50 but it wouldn't fix the problem. Tried to sell me on a $5000 re-piping as he said a hydrojet would break my pipes. Said my drain out was too far from my single downstairs toilet (40 ft away) so $50 special was not available. I told him I had already tried to snake my shower without luck. He came in with a battery tool and snaked the shower half heartedly for 5 minutes. Didn't fix the problem. Charged me $250. Total scam. I will admit, advertising $49 drain unclog is pretty catchy, and the response time is quick. But they will immediately try to sell you on a service you don't need. My usual plumber only does emergency calls on weekends, so I tried Rooter Man since it should have just been a quick and easy job, or so I thought. We have plenty of clean outs, and easy access, but before even trying, their tech Vince immediately said they might have to hydro jet the line, which by the way is $1,175!! He then barely tries his 25' snake, and no luck..."you have to hydro jet, but if you do it with me, I'll tell the office $1,000, not $1175. I said "thanks but no thanks". Had my usual plumber come out on the Monday and snaked it in 20min, and good as new. My kids got a wipe down the drain that we didn't know about ‍. Saw the $49 ad and called to schedule. I talked with the dispatch person, told them it was the main drain and she asked if there was clear access to the clean out and I said yes. The 3" clean out is on the West side of the house, 30" up from the paved walkway that is completely clear for 50' x 4.5", no gate. They said that it would qualify for the $49 special for 1st time customer. Rafayel M. (Pictured below) showed up, looked at the single family home, and said that it would be at least $239 because had to use Hydro system as a 75' snake wouldn't work. I was caught off guard as I have done plumbing for over 30 years and only due to injury was I reaching out to have this done For me. I asked him what was covered and he said that the 75' snake would be but he wont do it with that because it will not work. He would only do it with the Hydro system. I said, please just try the snake first and I'll pay for that and if it doesn't work I'll pay to have him use the Hydro system. Rafayel got indignant and told me no! I will not run the snake! It will not work! I will use the Hydro system or nothing! I sent him on his way so he sat in his van blocking my driveway for another 10 minutes on his phone behind his illegally dark tinted windows. D-Bag. Standard bait and switch. This is a dishonest business that will try to scam you out of your money. Do not even try this company. You will not be happy if you do. Waste of time to call them. The plumber came to my home did a quick assessment and determined that I needed a line detection for leaks. The plumber and the leak detection person came to my home the next day and charged me $775, and did not give me a detailed report of where the leak was. When I called to ask about it, he told me, we left tape on the floor, and further stated that there is no report. I spoke with three other plumbers who informed me that the leak detection is no more than $202 - $300, and that I should've received a thorough detailed report indicating the location of the leak. Recently we've been dealing with a blockage in our kitchen sink drain. We decided to take a chance with Rooter Man for a drain clearing. Harry was our technician and while he was a kind and polite young man, his service left a lot to be desired. Harry did not even take apart the drain nor did he use a camera to inspect the blockage, yet he somehow knew exactly what we needed. His proposal was first a hydro jet cleaning for $1,200 because he didn't have a snake that could effectively clear this blockage. He also said that we needed to rebuild the pvc underneath our sink for $1,500 because it was "built incorrectly". The only issue with it is that is doesn't have a clean out valve. Regardless, $1,500 is the most ridiculous price that I've ever heard for $50 worth of pvc and one hour of labor. I actually happen to work in the HVAC industry so I understand what it takes to run a service business in California, but nowhere on this planet is a pvc drain trap and cleanout worth $1,500. The best part about this story is that my HOA ended up sending a plumber who managed to snake the blockage and now our sink is draining perfectly once again. I like to assume the best out of people but all the evidence points towards Rooter Man attempting to scam my single mother. Would not recomend. read more

We needed septic system repair work done on our hillside rental property in Topanga, California in April 2025. We contacted Rooter Man because they served Topanga and have been in operation for 50 years. We absolutely made the correct and best choice. We were, immediately, contacted by the supervisor, Sam to discuss the immediate issues facing the septic system starting with the septic tank. Sam kept in daily and constant contact by phone as we lived 300 miles away from this rental property. We knew it would be challenging to oversee this work while not being on the property. However, Sam provided consistent phone updates and texts including videos and photos of the existing problems, the work that needed to be done and the continuing and completed work, phase by phase. We were fully informed throughout the lengthy work process. Sam responded clearly and completely on the issues that presented and set out everything in detail, including the costs of the necessary work. He always gave us the final choice on the performance of the work. The hillside terrain is extremely difficult to navigate. Yet, in viewing the videos and knowing the terrain, it was clear the work crew was working very efficiently in the face of difficult and hazardous conditions. There were never any complaints from the crew, tech or supervisor about working in such conditions. Instead, they all pushed forward doing the work diligently and energetically. In addition to the septic system repair, it was discovered that our waterline and connections were aged, cracking and needed replacement. Sam, and the crew implemented a temporary fix so they could continue with the septic system work. Sam, again gave us various options on materials, extent of work, and costs to remedy the issue with the waterline and connections. We were never under pressure to do any repairs but we saw the necessity and utility of repairing the waterline and connections. Sam kept the costs down by noting the section of the waterline that was in good condition and wouldn't need replacement. Still, there was about 400 feet of aged and corroded pipe that needed replacement. Sam provided me with several pipe material options. I requested a Schedule 80 water pipe which Sam accommodated. The nearly 400 feet of pipe had to be laid down and a trench dug on an extremely steep and heavily vegetated hillside to the water meter. Again, the crew completed this very challenging and difficult work, efficiently and quickly. Sam and the crew conducted an under the house inspection in the course of replacing the waterline to determine the condition of that section of the waterline. Although that inspection determined that most of that pipe was in good condition, a small portion of the pipe showed corrosion at the hot water heater connection. Sam and the crew replaced that section of copper pipe. However, the hot water heater was very old and we decided to have it replaced. Again, Sam provided us a fair cost to replace it with a brand new and bigger hot water heater. This was most welcomed by our tenants and avoided an emergency replacement at a later date. The main office with Sam's assistance allowed us a very easy and flexible payment plan. All the work was warranted. In addition, San returned after the job was done to address and resolve a concern our tenants had with the water temperatures. This entire job was extensive and expensive but absolutely necessary.. Sam the supervisor, the tech, and the crew were efficient and effective making the entire process smooth and productive. We are extremely satisfied with the work and the process.
