We started with the bean 'n' cheese dip, and it was amazing! We got the super macho nachos with tequila chicken and then 2 tequila lime chicken tacos and one chorizo taco. The nachos that came out were huge! I was very impressed because usually late on a Monday night, you can't find something with this big of a portion, and especially not one that is loaded with high quality toppings. I ended up only finishing one chicken taco, because the other items filled both of us up, but it was great. Red Star has an elaborate menu - which is extremely vegetarian friendly, well priced and delicious. On top of this - the ambiance is quite nice - love the plants hanging off sunroof, and the drinks are well priced and strong! I have tried their taco salad with tofu, and the nachos and I absolutely love both of these :) The taco salad was unexpectedly good - I expected it to be basic, but the tofu is well seasoned and the salad quantity is really good. I can easily see that being my regular order. Similar thoughts for nachos really - its really well done and you don't really need additional protein. for the drinks - I got basic G&T with rose water and it was quite strong and well done! And the space is perfect for Seattle weather. On this visit I decided to sit in the back outdoor space. The heaters keep us cozy with a slight chil the crept yp every now and then from a strong wind. Better than probably any other outdoor ish eating experience I've had. The tacos choices and prices for happy hour are great. The non happy hour menu is even better but not a great of price. From the outside this places looks closed. When you get inside it is busy with lot of hungry people. I can see why they have great service and an excellent menu. The chips and salsa are very good and the salsa is a 2/10 on the spicy level. I got a carne asada potato which was excellent. If I could give this place a negative 5 star review I would. I know many readers will think ohhh disgruntled customer. But let me tell you what happened to me and my friends at this bar, and you decide for yourself. We came in for a pre-party drink before going to a show. A blonde middle aged waitress led us to a Booth In the corner. At first we felt welcomed,it had a nice ambiance, and a wide menu. As a group of parents we rarely go out without our children. This was a special occasion and excited for a nice treat and a special occasion. We all ordered a round of drinks. The place was busy and brought us our drinks maybe 20 minutes later. We were enjoying our time, it was such a pleasure to have friends together, a chance to unwind. The bigoted waitress then came back, somewhat belligerent and with no rational thought, slurred speech, and, despite this , we asked to order one more round for the table. She said " oh, it's our policy not to order drinks again until your atleast 1/2 done with your first". We were taken aback that this bar does not serve drinks until you are atleast 1/2 way done with you first, but we were agreeable and went on with our time. The waitress came back again,aggressive stating we cannot serve you another round. She was disrespectful, ageist and discriminated against us due to our age, gender and race, despite us being kind, engaging and respectful paying customers. Offering fun and exciting flavor combinations, Red Star is great for tacos and tequila. I was feeling extra hungry and ordered a burrito, and for not having "burrito bar" in the restaurant name was shocking, because not only does it sound better, but man, that burrito was layered in deliciousness. I ordered the two taco meal, which included two tacos plus rice and beans. I chose the baja fish taco, which was chopped and fresh. The house baja sauce was spicy and overall, the taco paired well with the margarita. The carnitas taco was deliciously braised and tender. Hey, I like tacos and nachos and margs. And when I found out there was a bar, dedicated to tacos in Seattle, I was excited to check it out. Located in Fremont, Red Star Taco Bar offers a variety of tacos with a full bar. I can get down with that. We started with the nachos, which was a massive size, so is great for sharing. They were your standard nachos, but you really can't go wrong with with this classic appetizer, especially when it has a dollop of guac. For tacos, since there's quite a lot to choose from, you can either get three tacos, priced at $3.50 for $9 or three tacos, priced at $4.50 for $12. I recommend getting the more expensive tacos, as they are more inventive. For my three tacos I ordered the Catfish, Carne Asada and the Buffalo Chicken. They make their own corn tortillas here, which were fine. They're not my favorite, as they were more thick than what I prefer, but they were still good. Of all the tacos, I really liked the catfish one! The batter on the catfish was made with crushed tortilla chips, which added some delicious crunch and the fish was a thick piece. I also really liked the cajun crema sauce on it, adding some zest. Get this if you like catfish! The carne asada was good, especially with the lime crema. Yet I've had better. But what I didn't like as much was the buffalo chicken, which was surprising since I love buffalo chicken anything. Chicken tasted dry, unfortunately. Overall, this is a good taco bar in Seattle. Agh. I absolutely hate that I have to write this. My husband and I were HUGE fans of red star. We ate there at least 1 time a week for 2 years. You could say we were obsessed. Over the last 6 months, we've been appalled at our experiences there. The service has been Horrendous. It takes over 20 minutes of trying to get the servers attention to get the check at the end of a meal. When you're seated, it's minimum 20 mins before you're even addressed by a server. If you go, be prepared to spend a lot of time there. Beyond that, my husband has also been turned away for takeout. He ordered a drink and food at the bar, and asked to get a taco to go for me.
