    Gyro sandwich
    Tommy J.

Even at 2 PM, this place is still pretty busy for lunch. As I've mentioned before, it is a café at the airport and you would expect it to be quite expensive. But it's actually well priced for the quality of food you get $13.25 for a gyro. The prices have gone up so I put a couple of new menus pictures. I called my order in and they said it would be ready in 10 minutes. I arrived 20 minutes and it' still was not ready. After waiting about 10 more minutes, I went to the counter and told him that it was lunch and it has already been 35 minutes. The girl went back to check and it was sitting on the top rack, prepared, just no one ever brought it out front... they were busy, but not busy enough to wear. The counterperson was just standing around and talking to people. The food itself is fresh taste really good. Like most companies, the price has gone up and the amount of meat in the gyro has reduced. They did put extra cucumbers and salad on the euro to fill it up a bit, but it's always disappointing to get less than what you had previously, but still have to pay more money... One final thing. I thought that they had forgotten to put their delicious hummus on the sandwich. As I got down to the last 20% of the sandwich, there was a big spoonful of hummus. Normally it's spread out nicely, so if you try the euro, make sure all the sauce is not in one spot. Easy fix to spread it around with a spoon or something. For Truckee, this is still one of the best places to eat in town if you're on a budget. I will try this again, to see if the just put less meat on the sandwich.

Food was fantastic and pretty fast! Fresh and full of flavor. Great service! They could use a few more tables. Bright with lots of windows overlooking the runway at Truckee airport.

Purely for the bad employee, am I writing this review. I'm really disappointed by my last visit to Red Truck Truckee, even though I've always liked their food. My husband is a veteran with PTSD, and he has a service dog who goes everywhere with him. When we ordered, the blonde, frizzy-haired woman at the register was rude and impatient (and this isn't the first time we've seen her act this way). If you're going to be the first person customers deal with, here are a few tips: try smiling, speak in a kind tone, and maybe treat every customer with the same respect instead of picking and choosing who gets your friendliness. Basic customer service 101, lady. She told us that since we had a dog, we should sit outside. We explained clearly that it was a service dog, (pretty clear, since he was wearing his very well labeled vest with the words: SERVICE DOG, and DO NOT PET) but she insisted again that we eat outside. In case you weren't aware, that is not how the law works. Service dogs are allowed inside, and veterans relying on them deserve respect. It was 83 degrees that day -- far too hot for us to sit outside comfortably -- so we sat inside anyway. But the whole interaction left a sour taste, especially because she kept staring at us afterward. Meanwhile, she had plenty of time to be overly flirty and chatty with the airport employees coming in for lunch. Yikes. The contrast in treatment was obvious and honestly uncomfortable to watch. On top of that, it's not a good look to be perched on coffee tables while customers are walking in, making them wait until you're done with your personal conversation. That's just unprofessional. I enjoy Red Truck's food, but this kind of experience was really disappointing. Staff should be trained on ADA rules (and general customer service) and how to respectfully interact with customers who rely on service animals. Attached is a photo of the wonderful lady in question. ‍

The food was absolutely delicious! Probably the best chalupas I've ever had! There were three in our group, the other two felt the same way.

We just all felt like chicken). He asked us what spice level for each and it was , in fact, how we ordered it. The saag was delicious, flavorful and mild with just a little bite. The butter chicken was the best I've ever tasted. The vindaloo was also quite good. I didn't get pictures because it all smelled so good, we just dug in. And here's the best part; we put in our order and told him we were going next door to our favorite tiki bar, Pele Utu. He said no problem. He'd bring it over. And he did! Turns out Indian food goes really well with tiki drinks. Great food! Great service!

Meeting some friends to introduce them to decent Indian food up here in reno area…read more I ordered the stand by goat curry as always, I wanted to try their lamb korma, also ordered was another stand by the saag paneer. The goat was a hit for them, in fact it impressed my friend so much that she's planning another pilgrimage for just the goat curry, Due to cultural differences, the saag paneer was not a hit for them, they commented it was too mushy, great more for me after explaining to them this is the way it's made. Being the first time I ordered the lamb korma, I didn't know what to expect, it was different from what I envisioned, we all commented that it was too sweet. They gave us complimentary garlic naan which was nice, my friend enjoyed it since I don't normally order naan, I just like the basamati rice better. Another successful meal at Taste of India!

My kids came with this time and enjoyed the pineapple shrimp curry and the mango curry (I forget…read morethe unique name of the mango dish but on the menu it had a crown icon and was not the mango one with the basil)-- both entrees were ordered in mild. These flavors were completely new to me, I've never had curries from an Indian restaurant that tasted like these. The pineapple curry was sweet but a little tangy and reminded me a bit of Thai curry (perhaps turmeric was really elevated in this curry?). The mango curry was also very sweet, it almost tasted like a sweetened butter chicken curry (specifically the northern Indian version of butter chicken-- if you know, you know). My son said the sweet flavor of the mango chicken curry reminded him of orange chicken from Chinese takeout and funny enough I thought it actually kinda did too! While these dishes were a hit with the kids (ages 7, 5, and 2) most adult tastebuds would prefer ordering them with at least some spice to balance out the intense sweetness (otherwise it can just seem "1 note"-- but 1 note "mild" was absolutely perfect for our young children who find even ground black pepper to be "spicy" haha). Maharaja Royal Bites, you just keep impressing me! I'm super happy we found these kid friendly options in your menu. Oh, ps, the kids LOVED their fried chicken appetizer too! Yelpers, ahelpful tip, we've noticed that here a "mild" spicy level can vary based on the dish. Sometimes it means literally no spice (like in the kid-friendly pineapple shrimp and mango curry) and other times we have found that it meant "yes, there is spice, and it's certainly more noticeable than black-- or even white ground-- pepper).

There's no complaints there, but they didn't have Bhindi Ali, their Okra dish, it saddened me some. The rest of the meal I hoped would make up for it. We enjoyed their sampler (assorted snacks) which were an assortment of meat samosa, veggie samosa, chicken pakora, veggie pakoras and Aloo tikki. Delicious yet sizable bites to get you going. Their Lamb Curry, wonderfully made, tender. The sauce it was made with was delicious, the protein itself was gamy as to be expected, but day two after taking some home and eating it, not as much. Their Saag Paneer is what you would expect from most Indian restaurants, served piping hot, good cubes of cheese for texture and added flavor. Their Chicken Tikka masala was delicious, creamy, flavorful along with their garlic naan and of course we had to get Mango Lassis to drink. These are go to's in my opinion to determine your experience. They have to get these right and they didn't disappoint. The service was good, our waiters and hosts were kind and accommodating, I even got a little bit of history behind some of their wall art, the ambience was average, plenty of patrons holding conversations, enjoying meals, the music wasn't too loud from what I can recall, but it definitely carried the average volume. All in all, a wonderful visit. I recommend you try it for yourself.

Pro tip: don't order your go-to Indian dishes. 7-Spices' strong suit are South Indian specialties, such as dosas and biriyani. I've ordered takeout twice and dined in once. The Vijawada Chicken Biriyani is a must order. You can order different spice levels, but the very hot will give you a run for your money in the best possible way. I'm also a huge fan of the Masala Dosa. The Chicken 65 appetizer is also a great way to start the meal. I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala once and while it was good, there wasn't much chicken in the dish and compared to 7-Spices' other offerings, it felt lackluster. Overall, I highly recommend 7-Spices if you want to try new Indian dishes. I will definitely be back!
