Meh. Peppers moved in to this space after the Mediterranean restaurant that fixed up the kitchen moved out. The day we came, they were painting so the doors were closed and the place was hot and had no air flowing. The person at the counter was on the phone but finally got around to taking our order. The specials boards listed "Fully loaded Queso and Bacon Tater Tots - $9" so I ordered some. About 10 minutes later, he came out to tell me they had no Tater Tots -they were not in the delivery today. He refunded my $9 but did not take the unavailable special off the sign. The wife ordered a burrito bowl and I ordered Quesobirra Tacos. The portions were small. Chips and Salsa are an al la carte side. The dipping sauce was mostly vinaigrette and cilantro. The tacos glistened in grease. Not impressed. The burrito bowl was nothing special. No exceptional flavors. It just kind of laid there. Tahoe City prices. $25 for the two of us for a $13 meal. Ambience: this is in a bar called pete n peters and it's actually surprisingly good. The roasted cauliflower is amazing. There's billiards so you can bring your own CUE if you like. Period no salsa, no guacamole, no sour cream. Nothing. It was basically a bean burrito. I was told guacamole is extra There was only a few bites of meat. A 16 oz horchata is $12! I was going to order a second burrito to go. Glad I found out before I did. They could easily be so much better. They are the only taqueria in town other than the food truck. Probably the worst burrito I've ever had. I ordered a regular, Al Pastor burrito, no cheese, Togo. 10 minutes later, I open the bag, burrito is cold, first bite, all cheese. So I had to open it up to dissect my lunch and remove the cheese. What a mess. The burrito was mostly cheese, rice and old refried beans, not much meat. The Pastor was bland and mostly fatty gristle. The actual chunks of meats were on the verge of being undercooked. I was on a lunch break and couldn't take the time to return to the restaurant. I heard that they had crispy tacos so I went. Ordered two crispy ground beef tacos. I almost laughed because the " crispy" is not a fried to order corn tortilla shell it's the premade shells that you can buy at the store. The meat was cold and super salty. This is a really cute, casual place to eat in Tahoe. Great place for kids. My kids were able to draw on tortillas that were then hung on a wall. Very cute!!! The owners were very nice. The food was good. The bowl was pretty tasty. The chicken tacos need to be spiced up. The chicken was boiled and shredded. The beef tacos were the same. My husband and I have come to Pepper's twice about a year apart each visit. It is kind of hard to find - the first time we probably walked past it 2-3 times. It is not far from Alpenglow sports store on the main road. You will walk past Pete & Peter's bar - look for the hanging green chiles. We originally chose this place because of the vegetarian options - jackfruit, Chile relleno, and grilled cauliflower. I got the jackfruit burrito bowl while my husband got a Chile relleno burrito. Both are tasty, not too spicy and filling. The bowl has jackfruit, rice, lettuce, salsa, shredded white cheese, red onion, and pinto beans. It's a small spot with metal table and chairs so if you want more of an eating experience I suggest getting it as takeout. They also aren't open very late so hit it up for a lunch spot. read more

We were looking for a place in Tahoe city and it said they are kid friendly, so we gave it a try. There seemed to be only one woman working (we felt bad for her) she took orders and prepared the food. The place is really small, so you may or may not have a place to sit. Not sure if it's the way the food was prepared or how it was stored, but we all ended up with stomach aches. My son had a bean and cheese burrito, I had carnitas and my husband had carne-asada. It's a small menu, was reasonably priced (which is a plus), they don't have a bathroom so you have to go into the bar (they share), and it was a little bland for sure. The lady was nice and the service was prompt. Reminded us of a chipotle style place, so if you like that give it a try. read more

So the owner who says he's the manager is an Asshole. There's jus' no other way around it. He never cracked a smile, and really made you feel like he could care less whether you patronized his taco stand or not. He's an Asshole, and that is a compliment, 'cause he doesn't know it yet. We drove to Tahoe City for a couple of reasons from Truckee, and decided to stop a PEPPERS for lunch on Sunday September 2nd, and ordered a Super Burrito w/ Guacamole, (2) Soft Tacos w/ Carnitas, and an add'll side of Guacamole, and we chose to wait 20 minutes for him [Marty] to get his shit together. He chose to get everyone's food out, that ordered after us, but ours last. There was no one, or no other business to be serviced that would cause him to take (20) minutes to get us what we ordered. He's a very unpleasant piece of shit. When we finally rec'vd our order, he brought it to our table. And the Guacamole that he gave us was a Green Salsa, and I walked back over to the counter to ask him if this was the Guacamole, 'cause I really thought that he forgot to give it to us, and he responded to me with, "That's my Guacamole!" The Soft tacos are better at Taco Bell, according to my friend Holly who ordered them. The Super Burrito that I ordered that did not contain any Guacamole was fresh, and I must say good, but where was the Carne Asada? I didn't order a bean & rice burrito. Don't go here! You may vomit, from the sub-standard care of the ingredients, and the lack of safe food handling practices used to prepare the food, according to other reviews. You may be disappointed in Marty's service, because he is an Asshole, as I've previously stated. He doesn't want your business, and makes sure that you know it! No one should patronize this taco stand, so that he goes out of business, if he is the owner. He's either a disgruntled Mexican-American, or someone of middle-eastern descent that has no clue of how important a smile is to someone entering your business, or customer service is to the success of it, but business persons of middle eastern descent already know this, and always greet you with a smile. I wanted to like this place, especially given the high reviews. Unfortunately our meal and the service was disappointing. I ordered the roasted cauliflower soft taco. When it arrived, I couldn't even tell if I had been given the correct order. The cauliflower was diced small and smothered in lots of seasoning, which I suppose isn't a bad thing, but what is the point of a cauliflower taco if the cauliflower is just sort of a mush? I thought it would be nice roasted chunks. My husband ordered a large burrito which he thought was ok. My Mother in Law ordered a veggie tamale that was disappointing- mostly masa without many veggies or flavor. My children split a large cheese quesadilla, definitely the shining star of the meal! Also, the iced tea was quite bad, it sort of tasted like chlorinated water. The woman who took our order at the front was not very hospitable, it seemed like we were bothering her with our order, even though we were the only customers in the restaurant (1pm on a Saturday on Cinco de Mayo!). Ok the things that are nice about this place was a very nice gentleman who came over to give my kids a coloring project. He seemed to be an owner or manager. I thank him for checking on our table! Pepper's is hidden from street and foot traffic, the last business in row next to a large empty field--filled with snow, when we went--with just a symbol of a few chili peppers signaling the presence of the small Mexican restaurant. While a little forlorn from the outside, once inside the decor is vibrant and energizing, including bright red walls, part of a race car on the wall above the kitchen, and endearing kid drawn art on dried tortillas covering the largest wall. The tortilla art is brittle, so beware when you're within cracking range. Our family ordered an assortment of tacos, of which they have many types. I tasted the chicken, lamb, and ground beef ones. The ground beef one is quite oily. They were all good, though the thoroughly flavored pulled chicken was my favorite. We also shared chips and guac. I liked the saltiness of the chips. The guac was just okay as it tasted like it had just been taken out of the refrigerator. It is cool that they have vegetarian options as well, including cauliflower and chile relleno fillings. Don't let the atmosphere or decor turn you away, it's genuinely good quality authentic food. Great tortilla, rice and beans tasted great, and the carnitas was delicious. The "hot" salsa is pretty mild even though he said it was very hot, doesn't come close to sriracha spicy. Tacos were a 5, the super burrito was only rice beans cheese meat, I think they forgot or were out of some ingredients? Overall I'll be back, just wish their owner understood interior design and marketing a little bit better I saw groups of people turn away after looking inside! Was coming down the mountain for a quick bite to eat. It was one of the cheaper places around figured you couldn't destroy a taco. Walked in and saw dried tortillas on the wall... you should play with your food. Didn't want to sped too much time away from riding we still ordered. I got the carnitas super burrito my friend got 4 tacos. The burrito was a bland slop, no flavor. The tacos were ground beef wrapped in a cold shell of shame. Living in Central California I've ventured to many taco stands and trucks and never seen ground beef on the menu. Very solid lunch place when you're craving some tasty Mexican food. I had the chicken burrito, no rice/beans, add guacamole. The chicken was shredded, very juicy, and tasty. My wife had a chicken bowl and was very pleased with it which is good as she is a chicken bowl connoisseur. My daughters had veggie and chicken tamales which they said were ok. We saw some reviews on Yelp so decided to try it. Now these are soft tacos, but not authentic street tacos. They come with the meat, cheese, rice and beans on them. Chips and salsa are an additional fee, but are very good. One of our family members had a burrito and it was pretty small for the price of I believe $7. Skip this place. They close early. My entire group had their orders ready and they were let down. Go to Front Street Station instead. We tried to check Pepper's out due to reviews. On the day we went, they must have decided to close 45 minutes early. The window sign even stated that they closed at 5PM. Pretty solid menu with a good price. Tons of great veggi options. My wife only does vegitarian so this place is great. Roasted cauliflower, jackfruit, and a few other meat substitutes. But they pork is the best. Cant go wrong with a couple $2 tacos and a $3 pork tamale. Five stars! read more

Great Mexican food for the area. The tacos were excellent (I had a carne asada and a carnitas taco, SO had the roasted cauliflower. All were great!), packed with filling so on the larger side. Definitely worth it for the price. We also had the tamales, which were not quite as good. Tasty, but on the drier side.
