I love Mexican food and love a good deal so I had to check this place out. It's tahoe city so of course it's pretty expensive. It costs a lot to live there so no judgement on prices. I got 2 shrimps tacos and my husband got the chicken taco plate, and 2 sodas and it was $45. Staff was nice and good came out fast. Can I say these were some of the best shrimp tacos I've ever had in my life. The shrimps weee huge and juicy and the sauce on them was so savory and creamy. I had a bite of my husbands and the chicken was so flavorful! He said it was amazing Took one star off because his tummy was a little angry after the meal. Nothing terrible but had to note. I'll definitely be back for those shrimp tacos!! You can order your food then walk a minute away to common beach. Perfect tahoe spot. read more

Don't go here if you're vegan. I got 2 tacos with vegetables. This was the only vegan option. It cost $17, which was $1 more than the 2 carne asada tacos that my husband ordered. Mine consisted of 2 smallish corn tortillas and about half a cup of vegetables (broccoli, zucchini, squash). This would have cost about $1-$2 to make. The rice and beans are not vegan either. I understand that things are more expensive right now, but this was ridiculous. read more

One of the most satisfying burrito experiences I've honestly had. Came off the Tahoe Rim Trail for a resupply out in Tahoe City and was looking for a place to eat (that wouldn't break the bank). Was recommended Morelos and DID NOT DISAPPOINT. This was one of the largest burritos I think I've ever had. The food was delicious and well portioned. Tac-O-No! If im going to drop 18$ on 3 tacos, I want to walk back to my car feeling good about my decision to eat here. I think every other time i've dropped 18$ on tacos, I have felt that way. Not today! No no no. We left in tears. Tacos were fine. nothing special, but pretty damn good. Carne asada was yummy in my tummy, and the tortillas were . Main complaint comes from interaction with cashier, who screwed up a simple order and seemed annoyed thag I was even questioning why we didn't get what we had ordered. No attempt was made to recorrect their wrongdoings. 32$ (without tip) for 4 basic (not correct) tacos and 2 drinks is pretty screwed, especially leaving feeling unhappy. Truck itself had a couple tables to sit at. Truck is located in-front of sad looking building. Did not feel like a "fun, let's go to Mexican truck food after the beach!" place whatsoever. We understand that times are tough, but for the hefty price it'd be cool to have a little bit better staff interaction. read more

Ordered food and said they didn't have the taco plater (with rice and beans) yet they put rice and beans in several burritos after. I asked for salsa like everyone does and the lady says we don't have anymore cups, meanwhile I see the cups inside the food truck. My wife Maricela and I grew up in Jalisco and Durango, Mexico, where cooking for family and friends was everything. The food we serve at Morelos is the food our parents taught us to make — slow-braised birria, hand-pressed tortillas, fresh salsas and aquas frescas made from scratch every single day. No shortcuts, no compromises. Just the real thing. We opened Morelos Tacos in downtown Tahoe City in July 2024 and have been proud to bring authentic Mexican flavors to this community ever since. We're normally old fashion kind of drinkers but the Whiskey Mango Foxtrot had excellent flavor and was well balanced, with what tasted like a Tajin mango. The real star of the show was the food though. The server wasn't joking when she said the nachos are best shared with two people, and I even opted for the guacamole. The carnitas were buttery tender and the cheese sauce tasted gourmet and incredibly flavorful. I definitely recommend these! They were probably some of the best nachos I've had, and this is coming from someone that's lived in Santa Barbara for 5 years! Next up was the burrito bowl, and the first thing that comes to mind is: generous! We're used to spending $25 an entree in the city and still leaving the restaurant hungry, but not here. The chips were fresh and crispy and truly taste hand made. The birria beef was amazing and tender and flavorful, and the pickled onions and vinegar sauce was the chefs kiss on an altogether amazing dish. We're so glad to have finally made it over here! Bottom line, this restaurant is worth checking out if you're in the area. It's packed with locals every night, but don't let the long wait times dissuade you, they under-promise and over deliver. These are the best drinks and food with Mexican flare this side of the Sierras, and will become a staple during our visits to the area. It's definitely smoky (as the name suggests), so if you're a mezcal fan, you'll probably love it (like me!). Service was great. Our waitress was young, incredibly sweet, attentive, and happy to accommodate a few special requests. Just be prepared to wait. It's a small restaurant that's clearly popular, and for good reason. The atmosphere is cute and lively, though it does get pretty loud. That didn't bother me at all, but it's worth mentioning if you're looking for a quieter dinner.
