I think we all learned a few new things about where certain dinosaurs lived, and some dinosaur names we hadn't heard of before. The ONLY reason it's not getting a full 5 stars is because of a couple of reasons - 1 - A couple of the dinos could use maintenance. One of them has long claws that are a little broken. (You can see the inner structure poking out.) The small T-Rex looks like his eyes are having issues opening back up after it "blinks." 2 - The only staff member that wasn't very friendly was the cashier at the souvenir shop. He seemed like he really didn't enjoy his job. It's not the most fun position to have there, I'm sure, but it does have an effect on the full experience for customers. Definitely a place to check out for anyone that has kids that have any interest in dinosaurs.

It's amazing to think about how this goat farm is just outside the perimeter and in close proximity to the airport, as evidenced by the numerous jets zooming by overhead. Farmer Mary is passionate about her gang of genial goats and the delightful cheeses that they produce at this family-owned establishment. Plus she's a super nice lady in general and happy to talk about farming, cheesemaking, and nature. You can't just drive up to the farm and buy cheese, but they're sold at markets such as the Freedom Farmers Market and are a favorite of many chefs at popular Atlanta restaurants. Marykay, who is by far one of the most interesting, friendly, and intelligent people we've ever met, greeted us with a fresh bowl of eggs hatched that same day from her flock of 25 chickens. The alpaca herd was visible from the nearby gate -- all were happily chomping away at a pile of orchard grass (which Marykay later informed us is the equivalent of alpaca pizza). They are inquisitive, yet a little shy, but if you respect them they will return the favor. Both alpacas, chickens, and cottage guests have plenty of space so as not to intrude upon one another. We opted for the Alpaca Experience, which is an absolute must-do for all guests. It is incredibly informational and as interactive as you'd like for it to be -- assuming you are putting the animals' needs ahead of your own. Marykay is incredibly knowledgeable and has literally built the farm from a small chicken coop to a very impressive, tidy, organized alpaca haven. It is very evident that all animals are so loved, respected, and maybe just a bit spoiled from time to time. All are rescued from varying degrees of past hardship but their new life on Marykay's farm is a blissful existence, as evidenced by their calm, enthusiastic, and curious demeanor. The cottage itself is adorable -- easily comparable to the spaces and vibes found in Garden and Gun or Southern Living. The refrigerator is stocked with all the conveniences of home, snacks and beverages are available for those late-night cravings, and coffee at the ready for early risers. Everything was clean, warm, cozy, and loved -- just like the farm animals. Dare we mention the alpaca fiber blankets available throughout the space? The entire experience is what you make of it. Should you want to hole up in the house (not recommended when alpaca/chicken watching is so entertaining and the spirit of the various flower/vegetable/dyes gardens being so alive, but who are we to tell you how to spend your time), Marykay will absolutely respect your boundaries. But, if you're looking to truly experience something unique, as her a few questions. You will not be disappointed. We travel often and book via Airbnb regularly, however no place has been quite as comfortable, unique, interactive, and interesting as Decatur Alpaca Farm. Marykay has created something so unique and heartwarming -- every open-minded adventurer should include this place as a stop on the bucket list. All are located within a 1/2-mile radius, and 2 are literally within about 200 yards of each other. Our second stop was at Barrington Hall. It is located across Hwy 120 from Bulloch Hall, a bit closer to Roswell Road. They have a small parking lot out front. Like the others, there is no fee here. We again wandered up to the house's front facade (which faces away from the parking lot towards Hwy 120) entered via the front door. The docent on duty was again friendly and just asked for our zip code and how we'd heard about the venue. You are then free to wander the house via whatever route you like. Most rooms have a sign with a 4-digit code. You call a phone number (the same one used at the other 2 houses) and enter successive codes as you proceed. For each code, there is an accompanying description of the room's historical context and of its furnishings. These mansions all seemed to follow the same basic floorplan - a central linear hallway with 2 or 3 rooms off each side and a staircase at the end. This house was a bit smaller than Bulloch Hall, but had slightly more furnishings. This home also had more of a formal garden in the back. If you only had time to tour one house of the 3, I'd still begin with Bulloch Hall. However, this place was nice to visit if you have another 30 - 45 minutes.

The butterfly tent area sounds amazing, but we were too early for the season. The gardens are set up for educational purposes for children, which is nice. The bad: some areas are in desperate need for weeding, Robert said a large group of volunteers were coming out this weekend to help with weeding. There were many poison oak plants and poison ivy plants in some areas where kids might roam, especially, or adults too. The trails could be marked better, even though maps were available at the main admissions shop and a couple on property. Generally, this seemed newer rather than well established, but it is on its way to a nice gardens area and even now is a great spot to spend a couple of hours or more in nature!

But instead what I found, Was a park fit for fairies! The area was once privately owned. But they've donated the land. The well kept grounds, I'd describe, As nothing less than grand! There's many paths to wander, And little gardens to see. There's even a makeshift playground Made from the trunks of trees! Such an adorable little park, In the middle of the city. They also sell a variety of homemade foods. We tried the blueberry lemonade and the chocolate pound cake. The lemonade had a robust blueberry flavor and just enough lemons to give it a kick. The cake was not overly sweet but it was still very delicious. While we were on the field they played classical music which gave a nice ambience while picking blueberries. I highly recommend this place for people with kids.
