Easily the best Red Wing store in Houston. Bought a pair of black Iron Rangers yesterday after getting fit the month previous.

I looked all over the town and the website pointed me to this store. Parking lot was huge and shared with other businesses. Getting here was a breeze after commute hours. The entrance was mislabeled. Well, it was confusing to me because normally I see one for enter and one for exit at other Academy stores. But there is only one for both. Oh well. I just have to bump into other customers as they walk in and out. The store had enough customers to them busy. Although I only saw cashiers, not many employees stocking up or helping on the floor. I went straight to the Skecher section. I love this store because of merchandise display and logical layout. I initially attracted by the Sports Team Apparel near the entrance. But I couldn't find the red cap with Texans logo made by '47 Brand. Looks like all Academy Sports & Outdoors carry same merchandise. Thanks for having the footwear I was looking for. After trying them on, I have decided not to get those styles. One looked like rain boots and the other one look like working boots. I found a cheaper brand that was close to what I was looking for but it's hard to walk in them.

Molly helped me this second time i came to exchange them and actually took her time scanning my feet and helped picked up a pair that help support my feet. She explained what type of shoes best suited my needs. PLEASE HAVE MOLLY TRAIN YOUR OTHER EMPLOYEES, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE. FYI when I first walked in I came to the register another female employee came but didn't acknowledge me, just went to the other computer while popping her gum and blowing a bubble, very unprofessional. I had to ask her if there were any other employees that could help, and thankfully she called Molly to help me.

I am skeptical of the foot scan as my friend who is a former employee calls it "all smoke and mirrors." They don't usually have sales on their running shoes, as they only offer a limited selection of the latest, most expensive models. They have a treadmill in store. This location has a small parking lot that is very awkward to turn into and out of on the busy street. I think it's really nice the employees don't make commission, so there isn't pressure to buy shoes on the spot. I tried on seven pairs of shoes and didn't find any of them to be very comfortable. For a store that emphasizes trying on a variety of running shoes, their return policy is not conducive to that. They allow returns within 30 days, but the shoes must be unworn. You don't know if a running shoe feels good until you actually run in them.

I enjoy polishing my shoes, so I did my best to try to get the area as clean as possible and then polished them up with a colored cream with the hopes of masking the damage I had done. While the shoe as a whole looked better, the scraped-up toes looks only looked marginally improved. I needed to get the help of a professional. I saw that Bellaire Shoe Hospital, a shop I had used before, had a website with the option to email them. After a few emails with the owner Jeremy, I was confidant he would be able to improve the look of my shoes. While there I decided to add a Vibram sole protector and redo the worn-out heel to my beaten-up loafers. I didn't plan on doing this at first because I thought the shoes were done for, but Jeremy was confident he could get them looking close new again, so I trusted his advice. I left that pair and a couple of other shoes that needed some work and he said they would be ready in a few days. One of those tasks for the other shoes was regluing a sole back on to a relatively new pair of shoes. It was showing about 2 inches of separation and I wanted to fix this before it got worse, I was trying to think of how I could inject some type of adhesive into the gap. When I showed Jeremy the shoes, he said he was just going to remove both soles, and reglue them so they both adhere the same way. That was way outside of what I was willing to try on my own. What was great was that it was cheaper to have a real cobbler repair the shoes properly than for me to buy the shoe glue on Amazon and attempt it myself. It was definitely one of those times it was really nice to leave the work to a professional. When I went in to pick up my shoes, I was really blown away with my loafers with the beat-up toes. No one except Jeremy and I will ever know the things these shoes had seen. They look incredible. The heels and the need sole protector really make the shoes looks great. The other two shoes looked awesome as well. There are lots of shoe repair shops you can go to, but I now have "my guy" to go in Houston when my family's shoes need servicing. Jeremy is respectful, kind, knowledgeable, and best of all he is willing to spend a few minutes with you to teach you how to take care of your shoes. He values your business but he also wants what is best for his customers in the long run.

The tip was creased (leather), the leather was scuffed and the some had some typical signs of wear. I approached a man who seemed to be the manager (tall heavy set Asian guy). I asked if I could get them at a discount since they had clearly been worn out and it was the last pair in my size. First he tried to tell me they were offering a 30% discount on all items, to which I replied that this item was not new, so I'd take it for an additional discount. He rudely replied that he could just order me a new pair, saying he would just send them back for being defective. Rude, dishonest, and not very smart.
