I have been wearing Red Wings for over twenty years. Took an expensive pair in to be resoled at $150. Wait two months to get them back. They look beautiful and I'm walking out of the store. I paid extra for toe caps - one boot has one, the other doesn't? Yep, these boots went from Oak Lawn to Red Wing, MN, and passed through several hands. No one bothered to get the job right. No one looked at or cared about doing the job correctly for a paying customer. Disheartening at best. read more

From time to time, the people change at this store, but the spirit of true customer service remains. I am always impressed with how knowledgable the employees are concerning my work boot choices. I receive a yearly voucher from work to get boots and every year the rules seem to change. Steel toe, composite toe, resin, 6 inch ankle coverage, 1 inch heel or 1.5 inch heel. This shop has been so close to me for so long and I finally went for a visit. I needed some flexible work boots and they had lots of options. When I walked in a lovely lady, Vanessa? (sadly, I'm not sure of her name) helped me narrow it down to my specific needs. She first had me step on a tool that helps determine my insert needs. After I deliberated for quite a while and picked out the boots I wanted they didn't have my size. However, they said they could order my size with no deposit down. They called in less than a week and said they were in. I've picked them up and I'm quite happy with them and the service. They also said the do a free monthly conditioning of the boots. Came here to get some shoes over the weekend. I didn't know there was a Red Wing store close to me so I had to come here. It's a little corner store so it might be easy to pass up. Parking isn't bad neither. I know what I wanted for the most part so I really didn't help browsing around much. I wanted to try on a few pairs and I told the lady that who looked clearly new. She made me go on this thing so she knows my shoe size... Even though I told her what size I wore. Gave me the run around on insoles which I don't need. She reccomended me to wear another size which I told her that I'm not looking for. After trying on the first pair that I didn't like, she was quick to jump to conclusions and order a pair online and have it in store. I just wanted to try on shoes first and just got done trying my pair. While I was still browsing and older gentleman employee gave me a run around of the store which really bugged me because nobody was letting me shop in peace and they made me feel like I've never shoe shopped before. I finally found a pair of shoes I liked which was great that I ended up purchasing. I wanted to check out a pair of casual shoes for my sake which they didn't have. My trip here was a dissapointing migraine. I do give this place 2 stars just because I do like the store, it was clean, great selection, great deals. I've been a UPS driver for 30 years. I used to always wear cheap shoes and go through several pairs a year. About 10 years ago I finally invested in very good pair of red wing shoes and it has changed everything for me at work to the positive. This store has an exceptional sales staff. They are super laid-back, friendly and very knowledgeable. There is no pushy upsell here. They are also very fair with repairing, replacing, or upkeep on your shoes. I have bought two different high-top style winter boots and two different style low-top summer boots from this store. I won't go anywhere else for work shoes now. You shouldn't either. My visit to this store today marked the first time in my life that I planned to spend more than $100 on a pair of shoes. I decided to finally get a pair that would last for years instead of weeks. When I got there, there was quite a little crowd (maybe six customers all at once in the little shop) and only Christian there to help everyone. Still, he got me two pairs of shoes to try on right away. Then I figured out that the little American flags indicated which ones were made in America, so he got me another pair of those that looked good. Then I noticed that some of the boots had old-fashioned, repairable soles. Christian again helped me figure out which ones of those came in extra wide, which I need. He got me a pair and they felt great, so I bought them. This all took maybe twenty-five minutes tops, with as much time as I wanted to walk around in the shoes. Meanwhile he was explaining the different kinds of steel toe to one customer, pricing and available discounts to another, and so on. I never felt rushed or pressured. The guy knew just what they had in stock, and he even volunteered a $20 off coupon when I checked out. As a bonus, the pair of boots I bought looked like they were the same kind as this pair on display on the counter, which somebody had worn to work for forty years. If your a bigger woman or have larger feet and the woman's aren't cutting it, you can always try a small men's size. Take a stroll back in time to an era before the crapification of everything took hold. I came here a few days ago to get a pair of boots for my son who will be working on his feet all winter, often in the cold. We walked in and there was a wall full of work boots, all of them looking like they were built to survive a thermonuclear blast. Add to that two very helpful and knowledgeable salesmen who helped my son find exactly what he was looking for. Have you ever seen real double-stitching on soles before? You will here! As a bonus, this store carries a wide range of cold-weather work gear, most of it from Carhartt. I picked up the winter cap I needed while we were here, wore it during the snow today, and consider it $20 well spent. But we're also talking about extremely durable and rugged cold weather gear, the kind you'll find highway workers wearing in January in Duluth. So this is a great place, but maybe not what the average Yelper is looking for. It's definitely geared to people who do hard physical work for a living and need the clothes that will stand up to it. And it's not cheap (the boots were around $270), so it's really made for people who do hard physical work and get decent union wages to go with it. That's a shrinking market, which may explain why it's so rare to find a store that hasn't given in to the crapfication of everything. I'll be back. read more

I finally spent a good amount on shoes for work, about $160. The first thing that I said to the clerk when I got there was that I wanted non-slip shoes, as that's important at my job. He assures me that nearly all the shoes are non-slip, and I made sure that the ones I was buying were non-slip. When I wore them to work I was slipping and sliding all over the place! Not only that, but they were really uncomfortable and made my feet hurt. I expected MUCH better from $160 shoes. And to top it off, when I went to return them, all I got was store credit instead of my money back. So now I'm stuck with $160 to a store I never plan on going to again.Very disappointed. read more
